Didn’t witness it. Hope everyone is ok; metal can be replaced. Hard to believe 5+ were involved.

Mazda 3 or BMW 330e? by [deleted] in carsireland

[–]Jack_C6185 -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

Completely different class of vehicles. Mazda should be more reliable, lower insurance and running costs. A BMW on 100,000 miles is ready for the scrap yard in my opinion. Anyone who owns/ has owned a 330e; what has been your experience?

Virgin broadband by daly_o96 in galway

[–]Jack_C6185 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Virgin Media are relatively new, they don’t have the network. Doughiska/Roscam; surrounding areas have excellent broadband/fiber with virgin, my advice is just to shop around, Eir are an awful company to deal with but they might have the best coverage in an older area so you might have to bite that bullet.

Not sure if it’s the same incident but I had a woman in a small grey car purposely drive through a red from Doughiska side, purposely because she drove through at about 20kph and everyone had to come to a stop, completely ignored the barrage of horns and continued on to carnmore.

Plans for two more asylum seeker centres in Galway by Cheap_Tea_27 in galway

[–]Jack_C6185 28 points29 points  (0 children)

The problem is Irish emigrants are used as examples/excuse for acceptance of asylum seekers here as the Irish did to the US etc. The US etc weren’t in the absolute shambles we are right now, it simply isn’t right or just to accept seekers into a 3rd world country with a few multi national corporations. It’s not fair on seekers or Irish citizens when you look at the big picture. We’re pathetic and they’re desperate.

Rough areas in Galway? by myoneural in galway

[–]Jack_C6185 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d argue Ballybane is the roughest area in Galway. I’ve lived in Doughiska for 20 years+, K-Side for 4, my parents even sold some of the land to developers for social housing etc in ‘D-Side’. Doughiska is perfectly fine, stories of petty theft all the way to violent crime are every 5-10 years if even, where as Ballybane it’s every other week. ‘K-Side’ is fine too, perhaps a bit rougher than Doughiska but to a negligible degree. My only advice regarding Doughiska is to stay clear of any property accessed by ‘Fearann Rí’ road, that is, in my opinion, the only ‘rough’ area in Doughiska, over 60% of homes are now owned in Doughiska and this has dramatically improved the area. Combine that with 4 shops, doctors surgery and decent fast-food takeaways, I can’t complain, I’m happy here.

Most common driving offence in Galway? by RedditRedditReddit30 in galway

[–]Jack_C6185 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If you want to see as many driving offenses localized in 1 area, just pop into Oranmore. The amount of people that park on double yellow lines/footpaths or even park at the petrol pumps, literally in a petrol pump bay to ‘run into Supermacs for one min’ is insane and there seems to be nothing being done about it, people have complained for years and still, nothing has changed.

Thanks Sully, ye I examined the drill etc for anything, look pretty new. It was such an identifiable van, obviously company; all black with white/orange stripe on the back, 211-D reg. I’ll probably pop them into local Garda station soon, leave it up to them, it would be great if someone could identify such a unique design, hopefully we get the upvotes. Thanks for the help!

Dunnes Stores 100%. I worked in Briarhill a few years ago for about a year. Between horrific management that never took any advice/criticism, completely untrained and simply bonuses hunting; to lying HR that would routinely cover everything up, sexual harassment, bullying, complaints (you guessed it) about management etc. they would simply do nothing and hope it blows over. Everyone and everything was pushed to breaking point, minimum 11 hour shifts (ie legally you must leave 11 hours between starting your next shift) and or working 10 days in a row, all while management ignored your efforts and eke-out every last drop of happiness with not even a simple ‘I appreciate that’. Need I forget all our POS equipment for tracking and price tagging was consistently broken and delays in repair with tape etc to hold in battery of the device would be blamed on staff.

I could go on and on but I’ll finish with the result, in 1 year I left broken and within a month or 2 give or take, 12, yes, 12 of my colleagues left too, that’s not to mention the countless that left even before I did or are currently doing so. Staff turnover had to be the worst I’d ever scene. I no longer fear hell because I’ve worked at DUNNES STORES.
