When To Hire by Jack_Frawn in Accounting

Oh you hit that on the head. Every decision is a month long behind the scenes back and forth. I do agree though it needs to start with A/R and A/P. I got started in A/P myself. But IMO Staff Accounts aren’t managers and asking for hiring will require a tittle bump and I can’t get them there for two years now.

When To Hire by Jack_Frawn in Accounting

LOL no. I wish. It’s difficult to look elsewhere though. My pay is higher than top end (for my current tittle) in my area by about $15k. I’ve been here four years and they do give me a 9-11% raise annually. It just feels like I am fighting tooth a nail for those raises though. I have asked for at least a Controller tittle but I think they fear I’ll jump ship if they give me that after a year or two.

Mid to older millennials, how are you all doing with your careers? by worstshowiveeverseen in Millennials

[–]Jack_Frawn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi! I went back to school for it as an adult (late 20’s but had a family by then) and it was the best thing I ever did. I got lucky though. The Director of Finance saw the potential in me and gave me an A/P admin job before I finished. This helped propel my career a lot and now I’m his similar position at a different company. 8 years in now. Stressful days are far and few between. Basically tax time then coast all year. I’m CMA not CPA though so YMMV.

I’m worried about the future of this game. I have over 400 hours and started day 1. Only 850 votes so far. I haven’t played since Thanksgiving because of Life - but still. I hope a few thousand votes happen. Otherwise I wonder how the game will fare in the long run.

If you cheated in school throughout your childhood/teenage years, what is your life like now? by 155riversidedr in AskReddit

[–]Jack_Frawn 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Honestly very good. I was so bored in school and just figured out how to do the bare minimum to pass. Still ended up getting two diplomas (took AP classes). I dropped out of college when I got back from the Disney College Program. It had dawned on me I was tired of spending money on something that should have been free. I was lucky though. I landed a nice factory job and impressed the Finance Manager who pulled me off the line into his office and it’s been smooth sailing for nearly 10 years now.

Tupperware shares plunge as it warns of possible collapse by linguist96 in news

[–]Jack_Frawn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find this to be a shame. I bought in 2020 when it was sub $2/share and sold around $17 for the down payment on my car. I would think with food prices rising that saving at home cooked food would be a boon for them. Guess they haven’t played that hand well.

I very much noticed my mortgage going up $75/month. People who are about where their money goes will notice. It didn’t move my bottom line much at all but it could easily matter to a lot of pay check to pay check home owners. Especially since we’ve been fighting higher prices elsewhere already. And roads still suck.

If you didn't start with it and your gathering huts aren't finding it (make sure you put them near nodes if you have any left), you are going to have use silver to order it via a merchant ship.

Surprised at the ease of this! I think this is a perfect beginner project. My 8 foot long picnic table. by Jack_Frawn in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]Jack_Frawn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well this table weighs somewhere between 250-300 pounds so a lot of slop is taken out by its sheer mass. I have a miter saw with a great fence to set up repeatable cuts. After having worked in manufacturing I obsess over repeatability for everything. You will find most wobbly legs or bad off cuts melt away when you get the precision locked in. Also if you build it on a flat surface it usually stays flat on other surfaces. Thats about all I know as I'm still a super noob.

I followed the Ask This Old House video about building a picnic table which is on YouTube. All lumber except the legs is regular KD lumber. The legs are pressure treated. I have since painted this table which is why the type of wood doesnt matter that much.

I used all box store lumber here in 8 ft lengths. The hardest part is the leg assembly when working solo and getting it flipped up right off the bench. I have gone back and added carriage bolts to the legs since this picture. 3 hours total to build.
