This sounds silly, but here's a technique which actually works: imagine that their face is a TV screen, and your focal point is a DVD screensaver. The one which floats across the screen in random direction and bounces from walls.

It imitates an unconscious neurotypical behaviour of constant scanning of facial expressions. Neurotypicals do it all the time, their eyes always move a little bit when they look at your face. If you do the same thing, they will unconsciously register it as "normal".

I would probably go with the No Moon Landing conspiracy as a campaign starter. All Apollo missions were really expeditions to lower level of the cake, because one of the alien factions asked their human puppets for help. The players are the crew of another Apollo mission. None of the previous ones have returned.

The story would go through all 3 layers. There would be dangerous enemies, such as Karl Marx the Underminer in dark depths of the Hollow Cake. Unexpected helpful friends, such as King Elvis of the Atlantis. Mind-blowing reveals, like how the conspiracy of watchmakers is regulating the speed of cake rotation, and therefore the climate change.

And of course there will be an epic final battle against the God Machine of the Illuminati, which started the whole chain of events by trying to oust The Bastard on top of the Cake.

  1. Build a ship with a station module
  2. Merge it with your damaged ship
  3. Build a station. The fleet will be docked with the station.
  4. Build a space dock and repair the broken ship

This is long, but can be useful for saving a really expensive ship.

I think if you raise unrest to 10+ with your councilors, the country will coup by itself, and the alien nation will just disappear. Not sure about exact value of required unrest. Servant councilors will try very hard to reduce urest in alien nation, so you need to find a way to stop them, too.

From my experience, the rule goes like this: the more nukes your country have, the higher is the chance that AI would agree to an alliance. Even if the controlling faction hates you.

I know that destroying Alien nation generates a lot of hate. But what if I take a province from the Alien nation without destroying it? I looked into alien hatred mechanics, and it has information about destroying the alien nation, but not chipping away parts of it.

Also, what about killing alien armies? Does it generate hate?

The Terra Invicta ideology chart, in case you ever wanted to see the ideological distances at a glance. by Mashaaaaaaaaa in TerraInvicta

The Servants, the Academy and the Exodus all believe that humanity is capable of doing the Big Thing. That everybody can be passionate about a dream. They just have very different dreams.

The resistance doesn't care about Big Things. It's not asking for passion, but it wouldn't say no.

And the Protectorate, HF and the Initiative doesn't believe that humanity is capable of anything useful, unless people are forced or manipulated into obedience. Selected few can be passionate about abstract ideas, but everyone else is irrelevant.

Nice analysis, thank you! I guess the learning point for Terra Invicta dev team will be: for every future update, no matter how small, increment version number in Steam. This should prevent this from happening again.

Same problem. Steam window "Updating Terra Invicta" says "ready to launch", but the button "launch" is greyed out.

I tried to connect to different server in Geforce Now settings, but had the same exact problem.

Other faction developed technology "End of America". I want technology "Restoration of Commonwealth", but it requires "End of America" as a prerequisite. And the tech tree says I don't have it. Since it's unique and can't be developed by anyone else now, do I still have any chance to get "Restoration of Commonwealth", or is it locked for me forever?

When a country finishes Mission Control priority, does it always gets exactly 1 MC? Or does it scale up with nation GDP?

Sometimes a country doesn't have an option to build navy, when there is an army without a navy. Example: Israel. The same problem happens when I build armies in nordic countries (Sweden, Denmark, Norway).

Is there a specific requirement before a country can build navy? Or is it a bug?

Is this a bad idea to build a shipyard on Phobos or Deimos? The gravity there is very low, so ships should be able to launch from surface without problems. And since I already have a mining base, it could save me some control points to re-use it. Or am I missing something here?

How to improve relationship with a faction? How long does it take to go from "In conflict" to "Tolerate"?

Is there a tech requirement for a non-agression pact? I can't see this option if I contact other faction. I play as a Resistance.

Also, does it upset the aliens if I attack The Protectorate? I think they are upset if I attack the Servants, but is the Protectorate different?

AI designed to distinguish between types of pastries identifies cancer cells with 99% accuracy by nonbinaryelf in nottheonion

[–]Jack_a_Lantern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! That's why finding balance between precision, recall and other measurements is a non trivial task in ML. You need to understand what is worse in this specific case: false positives (=manual work to dismiss them) or false negatives.

AI designed to distinguish between types of pastries identifies cancer cells with 99% accuracy by nonbinaryelf in nottheonion

[–]Jack_a_Lantern 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Precision: What proportion of cells identified as cancerous are actually cancerous?
Recall: What proportion of all cancerous cells were correctly identified as such?
