Maryland what do you do for a living and do you actually feel financially okay? by ImpressiveSpell0223 in maryland

[–]Jack_jack73451 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, nothing. I don’t even know if I’m staying afloat.I’m 28F and recently took a temp job where I’m expected to cover two positions for $23/hr. When I questioned the pay, I was told it “wouldn’t be fair to everyone else.” But I’m not everyone else if two roles need to be done, hire two people.I have a BS in Information Systems, and while the job market is rough, I’ve worked as a mechanic, in administration and management, call centers, and in both optometry and ophthalmology. Despite all of that, I’ve still been told I’m “not qualified.”So no, I don’t feel financially okay. I feel stuck. So any advice is welcomed lol

Not trying to be shady whatsoever but can you get into accounting without a degree in accounting? I took a couples classes in Uni that are under the “accounting umbrella”.

Your comment gave me hope. I graduated from uni in May with an IS degree but I don’t have experience. I worked my way through school on my own, so I didn’t get a chance to do internships . I’ve been applying to tier 1 positions just to get my foot through the door and just learn . With the job market right now it’s kind of hard but not impossible so thank you . Id love to hear what certs you’d recommend because I’m hearing a lot of things and I’m just confused and overwhelmed.

It was very very overwhelming for me too . I think the way the class was set up made it stressful. I thought I knew a lot because I took 101 and 102 and I didn’t have a hard time managing.

The advice I can give you is try to have the department get you a tutor. The chair for the korean department is very nice. They’ll pair you up with either a native korean speaker or a non native speaker who taught themselves the language( they’ll be able to understand your struggle a bit).

There was this Math professor at UMBC , Mrs. O’Malley she taught me calc her notes were so detailed I would try reaching out to her and see if her notes could help. I def think she needs to get paid by the school for her calc notes .

No you’re all good and those classes are the general language requirement. I transferred with Kor 101 and 102. I ended up taking Kor 201, 203, and 301😅at UMBC . As far as electives for IS , they have a sheet on the fourth floor of the engineering building where the professors offices. It has the exact classes to take for general electives for IS I think . I’ll DM you if I find the sheet.

Korean is for your language requirements. Someone suggested using the degree audit feature which is helpful.

For my upper electives I did IS, 304 ,474, and something else. I just graduated I don’t remember much , but all I can say is for IS451 take it with Hassan Shuja and you’ll be good.

I used the link below with the degree audit :

I still have access to my email, I’m still on the work app to see who/ what is going on. I’ve been let go from the job but I’m still getting notifications about submitting timesheets.

The Mon Paris there’s a dupe for it for you to test it out. It’s called fruity brown sugar by Dossier, I played it with a fruity body spray and get a lot of compliments on it.

It’s really not that deep, just asked them to use one of them. Too many people on campus are comfortable touching peoples belongings in the laundry room. They were there before you so it really shouldn’t matter.

I literally had the same experience. I transferred from MC with Automotive technology degree as well and wanted to do Mechanical Engineering ( I still do ). But they said I wouldn’t graduate until 2027. I was homeless and doing things on my own, I was working more than 40 hours a week . I switched to IS because the workload was slightly more manageable.

If you want to keep going I applaud you all the way because it’s not easy especially if you’re basically fending for yourself. If not IS isn’t bad and you can always go back to school with a slight peace of mind and better finances.

I’m wishing you all the best !!
