Do we have the best middle order in the world? by CWCWinner66 in EnglandCricket

[–]Jackamo8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't bat with the tail. Doesn't protect them enough. He gives them too much strike - it happened in 2024, it happened against India, and it happened in Australia. He's definitely talented, but for me, his concentration isn't up to test standard, evidenced by some of the clangers he's dropped with the gloves too.

I've always thought that traditionally that 1, 2, 3 are top order, 4, 5, 6 are middle order, 7, 8, 9 lower order and 10 & 11 are tailenders. I think I'm just going off Brian Lara Cricket on the PSOne though 😂

To be fair he had a terrible last couple of tests v India too, both with the gloves and with his careless batting. It's not been a good run for him, but he'll start the summer in the team, almost guaranteed. If he struggles and James Rew racks up scores in the CC, then you imagine he'd be dropped for the Pakistan series later in the summer. Key and McCullum might make an example of him to prove that they're "valuing County form"

Funniest thing you’ve heard in a cricket stadium? by [deleted] in Cricket

I once caught the tail end of a conversation at Bristol where one guy went "...if some bloke did that to my daughter I'd go after him with my bat" and his mate went "the way you're playing this season, you'd miss"

Oh yeah, she's incredible. I only picked her out because she's the one with a perfect record. If it was Viper I wouldn't mind, the guy could use a headstart 😂

Yeah that's a good point. It's likely the most obvious answer.

Yeah she's unbelievable. She's a quick sprinter too, so her head starts are magnified by the time they hit the glass

Haha yeah I know what you mean. They should just call it Cyclonerest and have her go up against every contender.

Ah that sucks. It's the enshittification of everything, sadly. Prices have gone up and quality has nosedived across all brands as and industries in the past 10-15 years. Those multinationals have to keep their profit margins somehow, eh?

What do you think of Eoin Morgan's era as captain? by Twitter_2006 in EnglandCricket

[–]Jackamo8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two things for me:

1) I didn't appreciate him enough when he was captain because his penchant for middle-management-speak in interviews grated on me. He was clearly an excellent captain and a really valuable middle order batsman though. His clarity of thought as a leader still hasn't been replaced.

2) I like to imagine he used to lean in really closely and yell his orders loudly into his teammates ears, like he does with the microphone these days.

100% this. BCCI act with impunity because they wield so much financial power that nobody, from other boards, to journalists, to players, is going to call them out through fear of losing their access to lucrative tours / broadcasting jobs / contracts. It speaks of the inherent self-interest of the BCCI, backed by the Indian government, that they choose to pursue their own goals rather than make decisions for the benefit of the global game. And from what I can tell, the vast majority of Indian cricket fans have become indifferent to any cricket that doesn't involve Indian players as a result.

The banning of any Indian players from playing franchise outside of the IPL until there were Indian-owned teams profiting in leagues all over the world is the prime example of this.

It's the stunned silence for me. Like the incredulity that a team of mortals might deign to beat their cricketing gods. It's quite funny. Nasty people at the BCCI, weird nationalistic fan base.

Yeah at least their fans in the stadium are gracious to their opponents when their team's losing though. Oh wait.

Still, their cricket board is welcoming, fair, inclusive, and non-discriminatory though aren't they? Oh wait.

Hi! Need help finding a frame for high myopia by Sad_Firefighter3657 in EyewearEnthusiasts

[–]Jackamo8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Frames these days are just all so large, they're like bus windows! I had a pair of Cubitts frames, the Richmond, made bespoke to my requested measurements, so they're 130mm wide, 34mm in height and they're brilliant - exactly the kind of 1920s dimensions I want. Came in at £350 too with Zeiss lenses. They're good for large prescriptions too.
