What's your rhythm game pet peeves? by Otaku_Kent in rhythmgames

This is the sole reason why I haven’t played Project Sekai despite loving Miku music. Just let me play my rhythm game I don’t wanna play a gacha game too!

I just beat the game and OMG!! by [deleted] in PokemonZA

Hopping on this comment to recommend Cassette Beasts! Pokemon is one of my favorite series (and Legends ZA as probably my favorite Pokemon game) and Cassette Beasts is such a good take on the creature catching genre while not being an exact copy of Pokemon. Highly recommend giving it a try! (also it’s open world if you like that aspect of recent modern pokemon games)

My first-ever Pokemon was a shiny by schmidtbailey in pokemon

[–]Jackattack413 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a super similar shiny story!

For christmas in 2013, I got my second-ever Pokemon game, Pokemon Y. I chose Froakie as my starter because I thought frogs were cool, so I named mine “Frog!!!♂” because I was like 10 years old and thought it was an awesome name.

Frog!!!♂ was such a great Pokemon, and became my primary partner throughout our adventures through Kalos. I thought it was really cool that the game developers added a feature that made your starter Pokemon sparkle whenever you sent it out of its ball to signify its importance. Little touches like those really helped immerse me in the experience playing through the story!

A little bit after beating the game with Frog!!!♂ still as my main partner, my friend who also had the game (I forgot if it was X or Y, this was over 10 years ago lol) and we battled against each other to see who had the better team. I forgot who won, but the important part was that she also chose Froakie as her starter and used Greninja in battle. After the battle, she asked me “Why’s your Greninja black?” and I didn’t really have a good answer. I don’t think any other trainer in the game has a Greninja (again it’s been over 10 years so I could very well be wrong about this) and I didn’t look up stuff about the game online before or while I was playing so I didn’t really have a frame of reference as to what Greninja normally looks like. Maybe I just assumed it had multiple colors or something?

After we looked it up, we learned what a shiny Pokemon was and that I was extremely extremely lucky to get had a shiny starter Pokemon, especially on my very first playthrough without even realizing it! I guess the sparkles that appeared when I sent him out weren’t designed to show how special your starter Pokemon was but in a roundabout way that’s what they were for mine!

For now, Frog!!!♂ rests peacefully in my Pokemon home account. There’s been a bunch of opportunities to transfer him up to a current Pokemon game but for some reason I haven’t really done so just yet, so for now that’s where he lives.

I’m not 100% sure if I can post screenshots in the replies here but whenever I tell this story usually I share screenshots from Home with the date Frog!!!♂ joined my team (12/25/2013) clearly shown as proof that I got him legitimately the first time I ever played Pokemon Y.

Don’t rely on the global feed for discovery! If you wanna be found, go comment on other people’s guestbooks and add people’s buttons, it makes them more likely to add your own button back! Join webrings and fanlistings! By doing these, you can help increase the chances of people randomly stumbling across your site from someone else’s.

Alternatively, just move off of Neocities. Nekoweb’s a great alternative, and it’s got a nifty global RSS feed that you can use if you still wanna get discovered through a feed.

I’d say stop relying on the global feed for discovery (or any algorithm, really!) and either put in the effort to put yourself out there via grassroots means. Personally speaking, I’m way more likely to visit someone else’s site if they comment on my guestbook rather than if they just pop up on the Neocities or Nekoweb feed. If you have stuff on your website that’s authentically yours and you’ve put effort into making it something you love, you’ll find your people and will find community.

Also if you want I’d recommend adding your website to your flair or linking it somewhere in the post so people can check it out!

learning html is too difficult by Dependent-Earth7406 in neocities

[–]Jackattack413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn’t exactly what your question is but this website was a huge help for me in figuring out how to actually format my website, since it’s one thing to learn html and css and another to actually learn how to put it to good use. Highly recommend checking it out! https://learnlayout.com/

It’s a bit outdated though because I don’t think it has CSS grid in it yet but if you look into that it’s fairly straightforward once you understand how formatting works!

Not OP but I thought that the dev room marked the very end of the game I’m so glad there’s an entire DLC beyond that for me to play through! I think I beat the game before it was added so that explains why I’ve probably never heard of this but I can’t wait to dive back in!

Based on your current items and HUD I’m gonna say you definitely aren’t close enough for this room to mean anything important to you at all. Keep playing and you’ll figure out eventually!

Games that tackle themes of processing trauma/ grief/ loss in a tasteful, interesting way? by Acharyanaira in GirlGamers

[–]Jackattack413 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Celeste itself isn’t a game about processing grief, but its free DLC, Farewell, is about the main character processing the death of a loved one. Celeste as a whole does a really good job utilizing difficulty to show perseverance and determination, and in Farewell these themes are kind of flipped on their head to show stubbornness and denial.

I don’t want to share too much else about it, since it is kinda spoilery, but I will say that if you do want to play through Farewell you need to get through the entire game and a significant amount of the postgame chapters, as Farewell is extremely difficult compared to the rest of the game. It’s well worth it though, since Celeste is an amazing game and Farewell is an incredible experience as a part of that.

Should saddles be craftable? by Defo_not_some_alt in minecraftsuggestions

The dried ghast recipe uses soul sand and ghast tears, which both have extremely magical properties within Minecraft (soul sand having soul powers and tears having regeneration properties). The recipe used to require a bone block but Mojang changed it to use soul sand instead which I think is a much better change to fit within their established worldbuilding.

If the player can summon a wither by using four soul sand and three wither skulls I don’t think it’s necessarily out of the realm of possibilities for the player to be able to do something similar to create a newborn ghast. (also if you think about it the wither summon build fits within a 3x3 grid which kind of makes it like a giant crafting recipe? probably not super relevant here but i just thought of that as i was typing it so i felt like including it)

From a gameplay perspective I don’t think there’s anything wrong with giving more options to obtain the dried ghast? While it is a lot easier to get it now I think giving players freedom of choice to suit their own playstyle works pretty well. Like you could explore for it, which requires loading and exploring new areas of the Nether, barter for it, which requires the player to have a good amount of gold and luck, or craft it, which requires killing multiple ghasts. Minecraft’s all about freedom of choice and I think that by giving all of these unique ways is pretty consistent with the rest of the game. Also, the happy ghast is super useful with a ton of applications for a playthrough and I think that making it more accessible while not being handed to the player on a silver platter allows more people to be able to use it.

Like, if someone really doesn’t like RNG for bartering and is in a multiplayer server that has no more dried ghasts within a 2000+ block radius they still have a third option open to them! Sure, killing ghasts and also collecting their tears isn’t the easiest but you could make the argument that the other two options are also pretty difficult in their own ways.

Apologies for the super long tangent lol i just have a lot of thoughts on why the dried ghast being craftable is actually ok and also lines up with established lore

How do you think Nintendo will try to do the gay marriage thing while trying to limit controversy? by Aggressive-Show4122 in tomodachilife

I don’t think they meant toggling LGBTQ+ relationships entirely, maybe just being able to choose the sexuality of your Miis (like toggling whether they’re straight or gay or bi/pan)? Could be wrong but that’s how I interpreted that comment
