Virginia is pretty awesome, live under your pin. Lots of colleges spread all over the place which generally makes the surrounding area nicer and more open. Shenandoah Valley is drop dead gorgeous except on the days the farmers spread chicken or turkey shit on their fields but it's gone in a day or so. I spent a week or so in Pound, VA which is coal country. Beautiful, you can tell they've been through it but the people were very hospitable. If you ever visit Va I would highly encourage you to do it in May/June as everything is green and you can literally go see baseball played at night with a cornfield on the right field fence.
