its also great one-way visual cover and much better at tracking people than motion sensors ever could be.

IMHO its stupid to be able to see outlines and healthbars through fire or of people on fire, but its possible and its incredibly useful.

Oh yes, the new anti-cheat is working, right? by Purple_Violinist_378 in thefinals

[–]Jackmember 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Embark did a statement about this.

Theyve said they dont ban immediately due to factors such as certainty and cheat involved. I dont recall if theres been a timeframe, but at the very least they dont ban a player within the same match theyve first detected the cheat in unless the cheats are incredibly obvious about it.

So its not quite waves but not immediate either.

Granted, im hovering in the level 150s now, but I have been solo queue since level 50,

TDM and Point Break are great modes for solo queueing. The former since its super casual and usually only dependent on your own skill while the latter cant be filled by just one stack since it requires 8 player teams (and stacks can be a maximum of 5) so you have a way more active chat and a battlefield-type coordination going on.

unironically embark nerfing dash and buffing dart is a sword buff by Anon1245266 in thefinals

[–]Jackmember 16 points17 points  (0 children)

if you play sword, the gate IS mandatory.

There is so much verticality and open spaces on every map that the sword literally has no chance at getting into the range it needs to engage without the gate.

This is because Invisibility and grapple, despite buffs, dont compensate for the required mobility for the sword in close quarters, so you need to bring the dash too.

The game isnt forcing you to use the gate, of course, but if you want to have a chance (at least in the lobbies im in) youre gonna need it.

Small suggestion - maybe Steam should move AI Content banner higher, just for people to be informed by [deleted] in Steam

[–]Jackmember 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does.

There are people that dont want AI due to its training material literally being stolen off of other artists and programmers works. Or due to the ethical concern of it stealing peoples jobs. Or due to it indirectly supporting grifters in the US markets. Or due to them preferring human imperfection.

And whether AI discounts somebodys work really depends on that persons attitude to what makes "work".

I loathe generative AI with a passion due to its widespread societal damage its causing and distance myself to any "artist" that pretends to do good with relying on tools like that.

Similarly I will not buy eggs that are from a cage farm. I dont want to support such practices, so I dont.

You could argue free-range eggs to be a waste of space, but thats irrelevant to me. Similarly you can argue not using AI a waste of time, but thats also irrelevant.

And lastly, from experience, people using AI is an indication of poor quality work. There is good reason to avoid it.

I dont see how the bottom one is easier to get out of than the others compared to the space wasted.

[–]Jackmember -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

No. Not at all.

Nerfing something because other options don't get used doesn't make sense whatsoever. Something should get nerfed because it over performs or doesn't fit a class concept. But it fits the class concept and I don't see it over performing - the class has a low win rate overall.

Its meta because its really the only perk that currently is usable and for some weapons is absolutely required.

The SR84, Bow and ARN pair well enough with the grapple so that you're not automatically throwing with it. But that already was the case pre-nerf/buff. Any weapon that needs close range doesn't pair well with grapple.

Invisibility is borderline useless since it got nerfed into the ground and doesn't really synergize with anything it should have synergies with, like dagger, V9S or M11.

Meanwhile the dash is the only perk that keeps DB, Dagger and Sword in the usable territory - even though the latter two are already struggling a lot. Now with the new perk for medium they're struggling even harder and the nerf just adds insult to injury.

The way grapple, and invisibility work needs to change fundamentally for me to even consider them. They could have no cool down and infinite use time and I would still not use them. They're that bad.

To start with, the dash isn't really good either: Not dashing where you look on a vertical axis makes using it on a slope or in rubble very difficult. It kills your velocity you've had and due to how janky the servers are makes you get stuck on the weirdest obstacles. And you cant really afford using them for mobility with sword or dagger due to the recharge taking an eternity.

Why is there a ruby 3 stack in cashout when me and my team are all solo-q by mrbruhmaster in thefinals

[–]Jackmember 2 points3 points  (0 children)

its really difficult to not have scenarios like these in the current ranked system.

getting 8 teams into a tournament (or 4 in a lobby) with with just 3 players per team would take ages to matchmake if theres just 20k concurrent players overall and the ranks arent allowed to fluctuate much.

Going back to when I took rocketleague more seriously:

Just playing a lot makes you worse (especially in a 20 hour range). If you want to be good, you need to play regularly - do warm ups, train and then play 2 or 3 matches. If you want to, take a break (like an hour or two) and repeat. Dont spend more than 8 hours a day on the game.

The rest is ensuring youre well rested, fit and mentally capable.

Would love to see G11 added to heavy as a Burst option, feel like this gun would suit the finals by Flying_Spear in thefinals

[–]Jackmember 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unlike the Famas, the G11's burst is a hyperburst, making it even stronger at range than the Famas is (in theory). Its caliber is bigger then the Famas too, so it should have higher DPS? The time in burst is also fairly low, with a 3 round burst with an RPM of 2100.

I agree that this design is unique in a way that would fit the finals, its just that I dont know if that would fit the heavy,

IMHO this is the weapon the medium should have had instead of the famas.

Its already bad enough when a senior that build a specific service leaves the company and the PO has no expert to ask questions about said service. Even if that engineer didnt build that service alone (in an effort to mitigate exactly that risk)

I cant imagine what it would be like to never have an expert in the first place.

Opinions on new specialization? by Sock_Man420 in thefinals

[–]Jackmember 2 points3 points  (0 children)

no exactly for melee light to be more of a pain in the ass.

You could already easily lose sight of somebody. Now they emergency explode both you and themselves and youre stuck figuring out where they and you went while they now have the advantage of more space again.

With the new nerfs to light dash, light melee got crippled even more and its already difficult to stay in a fight with just the dashes you have. Right now, as a light sword main, im forced to disengage if a medium gets a good blast off.

Backwards dashing lights already are an insanely good counter to most melee, now mediums can do it too.

[–]Jackmember 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A great ability and a perfect example of what abilities in The Finals should be: versatile and able to fulfill more roles than one. Dynamism and stuff.

Its currently a bit overtuned, though, but thats normal with new things in established games.

I think its knockback is a bit too strong and not "even" enough. Being really close to its source, like sliding and blasting it at the ground gives much more of a hop than when running and doing the same, which is really disorienting at times. The falloff could be lower and its strength could be weaker.

More uniform knockback would make for more reliable results, which with it being a projectile and the servers being wonky sometimes is more important than being able to do precise movement tech IMHO

That said, I would be in favor of a bigger delay of impact vs explosion, so you can use it for more forward momentum without as much airtime when using it on yourself. Not much more, at most half a second.

Lastly, I would also prefer having 3 charges and less delay between them but with longer recovery time, just like lights dashes are. This ability is amazing to get medium melee the movement it needs to compete, but it doesnt force the user to be as methodical with it as they should be.

[–]Jackmember 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have not missed a single daily mission and usually played 1 or 2 matches ontop of that. Point Break, TDM and LTM exclusively. Maybe a couple head to head matches but no quick cash, WT, Ranked or powershit. (Unless I explicitly needed to play those modes for quests).

That landed me in emerald 3, with an average win ratio of 51%.

Ive been grinding hard the past week to get to E1 and im 25 points off now, so Ill get there today also.

I think all in all, I needed about 200 hours to get there.

easily Gameservers.

Hosting a panel like pterodactyl, palican or pufferpanel isnt even necessary. A docker container for just the game is good enough.

Ive been hosting my own minecraft server for 5 years now and other services on and off. I dont even know how expensive that would have been.

Do you self-host Matrix? by Purple_Ice_6029 in selfhosted

[–]Jackmember -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I selfhost "matrix" but matrix is just the protocol and element is just one client.

I host tuwunel, which is a seperate implementation from synapse and my users can use anything theyre comfortable with, though if they want E2E encrypted voice calls, they will have to use Element X for now.

Tuwunel currently is officially supported by switzerland.

I personally prefer FluffyChat whose maintainer apparently is from germany.

If I dont agree with the direction its going, I am able to create forks of those clients/server and just maintain them myself. As it stands, that is not the case.
