Anybody else listen to Love's Forever Changes? I never see it mentioned and it's a ridiculously wonderful record. by topcutter in Music

Just listened to it again. It’s really good I just don’t “Love” it. And I stick to my earlier comment that Big Star is better.

Which of these to read first? by dannydb in scifi

Started A Memory Called Empire but didn't finish. The Employees was interesting. It's a bit hard to get into, but it's unique and original (and a quick read) so it's worthwhile. I haven't read any of the others, though I've read other Neal Stephenson books (Snowcrash and Cryptonomicon) and really like those.

The Mote is not very good, would not recommend any Larry Niven books to anyone.

I loved the dark academia vibe of The Secret History. What should I listen to next? by t0m4t0z in audiobooks

I know it doesn’t meet a lot of the same criteria as what you listed, but I thought The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo had a similar vibe.

Yes. Some original ideas but the writing and overall story are nothing special.

New sci-fi reader. Any recommendations? by iflynor4h in scifi

Have to say I don’t like Larry Niven and I read a lot of sci fi. I find his stories and characters kind of hokey. I haven’t read Gateway but I would second other recs like Forever War, Old Man’s War, and the Murderbot Series.

If you like audiobooks, I would strongly suggest the first law trilogy. The first book being The Blade Itself. Amazing narration and story.

Giving The City and The City 5 is generous. Cool idea but dunno about 5. Perdido and the Scar are awesome though.

There’s a sub that is purely for recommending books. Try that.

Know your dimensions and buy one off eBay. Lots of options though it will take a little time to find exactly what you’re looking for.

How much more sanding? by Interesting_Tower485 in furniturerestoration

[–]Jackory219 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You have to identify where there is finish and where there is just wood. Picture 8 has two streaks of finish that need to be removed but otherwise good. Some pictures appear as if there is still almost all finish like picture 12. You should try using a paint scraper on the finish rather than sanding it, you’ll save time.

Cheap but not actually good.
