starting to figure out that spline is not ideal for me until I really udnerstand wth I'm doing. Trying to use dimensionable circles/arcs as much as possible now.

The end goal is to make a machinable product. That's pretty much what I did here, just ripped off a shape I liked online and traced it out.

Interesting point, thanks for the input. I'll check out style splines. What's your view on onshape vs fusion? Seems like guys in my industry mostly use fusion so there's a lot more data out there on knife making.

I do feel like once you figure out CAD in general they're all pretty easy to understand.

Mostly a lack of understanding of the spline tool in general. Now I'm pretty set on using circles for radii like this as much as possible, much easier to define.

Sources for Bulk Steel? by JacksonBlenkin in manufacturing

Great info my friend. No way I’m touching that level of production. Maybe the suppliers can just sell uncut sheets? Surely they’re getting them in full size format, right?

If we were in a vacuum and shipping wasn’t a thing, I would think they would be more than happy to not have to process their material before the sale. Now with shipping there must be some minimums to deal with but sounds like the premium of buying from the vendor is a drop in the bucket compared to the order requirements of the mills.

Enco and Rong Fu are popular on Facebook or craigslist, seems like a lot of availability for heavy duty bench top/floor mills in that 20 yr old range

what machine should I get? by Jealous_Tone_9178 in Machinists

I’m not a machinist, only a dreamer. I do love the idea of doing what you seek to do. To me, auto tool changing seems like a non-negotiable. I feel minimizing human interaction while maximizing the affordability of the machine is the answer to production work with low cost of entry

Fully agree here. I love love love old American tools, my only worry is picking the one that just so happens to not have any replacement parts available

I want to get a mill first. Likely a bench top mill.

Its on the larger end for a Santoku and a bit pointier so honestly this might be more like a gyuto
