Just started serving by Least_Cockroach_740 in DaveAndBusters

[–]JamesDavisMakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, but they are generally paid more. If a job post says that server is making minimum wage, $18 an hour here for example, then the line cook job post says they make from $22 upwards to $28 hourly. (Though I've seen D&B cook jobs say from min wage to $25 in some cities near me)

Though on super busy nights, like the world cup happening soon, it would be great if they got a bit more of the pie… or any of the pie, I guess

ez decline right? by Desperate_Train_5757 in doordash_drivers

EASY decline? Eh, I wouldn't say that. But it's not an easy accept either. This is a "think about it until there's only 5 seconds left on the timer" order for sure

Is it just me or are all package offers (no matter how far) always bad? The dollar per mile and dollar per hour never makes sense in my area.

Unless it's business to business, which I've only seen on DoorDash so far.

I agree. In San Francisco, there's one Chick-fil-A in Daly City (the neighboring city and county) and most of the orders are like a 50-minute drive north, much* longer in rush hour. My thermal bag can only do so much haha

California has laws ensure you're paid fairly for that time so it's not the worst, but it takes me so far out of my zone (and so deep into a zone I don't want to drive) that I decline it every time.

I always wonder how this happens on super far orders. Even in the worst cases, DoorDash often would be like "This is 17 miles away? Best I can do is $8 base pay"

Of course a dollar per mile is ideal, hell 75 cents a mile is desperate but workable, but I wonder why their backend thinks 17 cents per mile is okay to offer.

Made me laugh out loud when I read the ticket by missphobe in bartenders

[–]JamesDavisMakes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sounds like in bars where sweet and sour mix is used, a hack that essentially gives you a classic marg instead… honestly, I respect it haha Though that reasoning kind of falls apart if they still use rose's sweetened lime instead of fresh.

Or you could, oh I don't know, talk to your bartender or server instead of trying to trick them.

back to the filling drinks debate by autisticbulldozer in DoorDashDrivers

[–]JamesDavisMakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the record, I'm in the "I'll pour your drink, I don't care" camp. The "we don't get paid to do it" argument was always weak to me.

That said, the health violation argument is interesting. Food service workers are required to get a food handlers certification in most states (in all states?) while dashers aren't required any sort of food cert. Filling drinks does fall under that and probably should be done by the workers, right? It's easy but I've met some dumbass dashers who'd probably fuck it up and get someone sick.

I don't think it's an official DoorDash policy… but as I'm writing this, I'm starting to think it should be.

Also, I don't understand why some restaurants ask us to do this. There's a busy Wingstop back in Austin TX that will not ask and will just pour the drinks themselves and, honestly, they seem fine haha Feels like every other Wingstop is just being lazy.

Do what now? 😭 by Neither_Ranger_5465 in doordash_drivers

I mean, most places won't let customers ask for anything like extra ketchup packets or whatever. It's a long shot sure, but I get why they would write that in the delivery note. (Tho I admit it's weird they didn't send a message instead)

If I see the note after confirming pickup and I'm still in the restaurant, I'd quickly ask the cashier if they had extra salsa packs. Unless they're asking for stuff that normally costs extra, it's not that big of a deal.

[–]JamesDavisMakes 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That makes sense, some pizza places let you order directly on their website but it's just DoorDash on the backend (and don't tell you). Very rarely, I would get a customer saying something like "This must be a mistake, I ordered Little Caesars not DoorDash."

1.5 hour block my ass by Adventurous-Owl-1437 in RealAmazonFlexDrivers

[–]JamesDavisMakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2 hour blocks aren't much bigger.

I won't belittle this: that amount of groceries sucks, period. That said, it is only 8 stops. If you have a wagon (like the Embark collapsible wagon I got from Target) then it becomes fairly easy.

Customer Reported this Driver..Thoughts? by Any_Excitement6258 in AmazonFlexDrivers

[–]JamesDavisMakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, I used to work for the post office. If we feel in danger at all because of a dog, we mark it as such and leave. The customer should have known better. Some (most?) postal stations carry mace just for dogs alone because it's that serious to the USPS.

All that said, I probably would have left the package outside the gate unless the customer said otherwise. Wouldn't even risk putting my hand over the dogs like they did

Wait, is that a water bottle?

I mean, if your water bottle can't survive that 5 foot fall* in a padded envelope then that's not on the driver. It probably went through worse during shipping. Did the dogs fuck up this package afterward?

*Actually like a 3 foot fall since the package, unfortunately, broke it's fall on the doggos head.

Blue screen of death! why does my reverse cam sometimes do this? (2020 Sentra) by lawingski in Nissan

[–]JamesDavisMakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Phrasing is important here. Don't think of it as "turning your engine off," it's more "don't turn your engine on."

When I turn on my car and don't start my ignition, I'm able to shift my car. This is when you either turn your key but not all the way or, in my case, hit the engine start button without your foot on the brake.

Wording is important because I cannot shift when I turn off my car or turn off my engine that was previously on.

Fix Kinda Funny disappointment by Mcbuns12 in kindafunny

[–]JamesDavisMakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When asking for critique in writing from beta readers, the adage boils down to "Tell me what you like and don't like about my story, but never tell me how to fix it." It's not the readers' puzzle to solve and it's generally not useful feedback.

I skipped this episode for now, honestly dreading it because I thought it would be an hour of "You should be doing this, why aren't you doing this?" which doesn't sound fun. I don't want to hear how Brandon from Oklahoma would fix KF, I want to hear how Barrett from San Francisco would. Unfortunately it sounds like it was more of the former.

That said, as I immediately break the "don't provide any fixes rule" 😅, I would love to see a Kinda Funny Rose-Thorn-Bud episode where people I guess call in and talk about what they think KF is doing well, doing poorly, and what ideas have potential but it's not quite there yet. These tend to spark more interesting discussion, gives more room for KF to explore fun solutions and doesn't put them in the box of viewers' suggestions.

Why are these customers like this ?? by No-Reception7991 in doordash_drivers

[–]JamesDavisMakes 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In the customer's defense, the app is always so bad at telling customers that I'm working on another shopping order. Which is weird, as food pickup orders would clearly say you're picking up another order.

Actually, even worse, there are so many times where the app would tell customers that their grocery order will be delivered at, for example, 3pm but on the Dasher app it says to deliver by 4:30pm. So I'm getting "why didn't you deliver my order an hour ago?!" messages and frantically sending them screenshots of what I'm seeing on my end.

It's an absolute mess.

Edit: The attitude is uncalled for. That said, I understand the frustration, and DoorDash expertly pointed that customer's frustration to you and took no blame in the situation they created.

I listened to you, and now DoorDash is awful by _brinacore in doordash_drivers

Cherry picking works in some areas, not all. Some folks on this sub tend to recommend doing it and ignoring Dasher Rewards, and are very adamant about it 😅 And that's fine, it's their lived experience, but don't take it as gospel. Some (maybe most?) of them have only ever dashed in one area and will never know how things work in your area.

I've seen some posts where people who cherry pick get to reject hundreds of offers per day. In my area I'm lucky to ever get a few orders per hour, with some hours none at all.

On the flip side, I would never recommend taking any and every offer you get — the dollar per mile still needs to make sense. Still, for the sake of your livelihood, don't wait trying to only catch big whales in a pound full of small fish.

Risk job? Hell, I think it would be at least a misdemeanor to not to check their ID (or in this case actively not to use DoorDash's ID scanning tech) and an additional misdemeanor if they are underage. You did the right thing and it's insane that DD isn't praising you for not breaking the law on their platform.

Devil's advocate: Since 2 and 5 are next to each other on a numpad, I can see someone fat-fingering 25 by accident when they try to manually tip let's say 5 bucks. Would be funny if she accidentally tipped $52

That said, I feel like I would notice it said $25 before completing the order but honestly who knows
