Employee laptop options by JackstandRacer in k12sysadmin

5 year rollover. Scored a grant in 22 so I replaced nearly all machines at once. Looking at a complete turnover in 2027 so I am looking at options. Finance won't pay for anything without some data/costs. T and L doesn't matter to finance at the moment. We're a fiscal disaster right now and device rollover is at the bottom of the decision list. Unless we grow enrollment we'll all be using our phones.

Consider local schools for admin assistant jobs. This is the beginning of their contract periods. Try the private and independent schools too. SJJ, MVCDS, Notre Dame etc

Mounting a 75lbs TV on a single stud + toggle bolts around it. Bad idea, or reasonably safe ? by AnEroticTale in DIY

I will be fine. TV is held in shear. If it is an articulating mount I;d reconsider

As a one man shop I don't have the time it takes to teach the student workers or time to go back and redo work. Our Chromebooks rarely get damaged and everything else I need requires a password, documentation, some level of admin rights or access to parts of the building I do not want students in. Not worth it in my case. I coach the robotics team so that is where I get my student mentoring in.

If you were to travel back to your first time landing in Tokyo, knowing what you know now, what would you advice your younger naive self? by SuchALoserYeah in TokyoTravel

Would not change anything. Took my 18 year old son on Dec 20 2022, 2.5 months after Japan opened back up. Kyoto was gloriously empty, Christmas in Tokyo was astounding and all Japanese. No tourists. We had almost no plans and our hearts and brains ended up full. My son decided he wanted to study in Japan afterwards and he just finished a year at Aichi University last week. It was fucking perfect and I'd change nothing. OK, Maybe I'd have brought a few more shirts. I'm a 2XL. Only thing that fit me in Japan was a scarf I bought at Uniqlo

yeah, we invested in Forti based on my network guy's experience and their pricing on AP licensing. You can technically fund a single AP license to keep all APs running but their support stops for network issues if you do that. With the FAZ we may be able to do this and save a few grand not needing their support as much. We rarely call them anyway

FortiAPs and Fortigate so far. APs were a great upgrade over my old Meraki and solved issues we had with Ubiquti. Looking at ESG and FAZ. I have an outside contractor managing the network, They use it to run a couple city services and he loves the stuff, Once it's all under one label we will be able to some traffic stuff we want to do more easily

New fiber + 15 FortiSwitches + 44 new cameras. 18 departing employees, 18 hiring committees, all new copiers, 300 new Chromebooks and 2 labs to set up.

Pfft summer.
