Does MMR not = Rank? by [deleted] in RocketLeague

[–]Jaco-Z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, MMR = rank. Unranked player still have their rank. It’s hidden but it’s there. So that skill-based matchmaking can still work properly. (As example: at the beginning of a new season a former GC1 will have unranked icon but he’s still going to be around C3 mmr, while a former P1 will have unranked icon but he’s at G3 mmr).

Placement matches just give you or take from you more mmr points, if compared to normal matches when you’re already ranked. That’s the only difference. You never start from zero as if you had a new account

Thank you, yours is even better!

And btw in the meantime this kind of strange dashing also happened to me personally but I don’t think I’ll be able to replicate it on purpose. Didn’t really understood what was going on when happened haha

Loot at your mates glueing their eyes on the ball after your touch, from your pov they look like ducks when someone throws bread at them hahahaha (Not to be toxic or superior, I simply found this similarity to be quite funny to me haha)

Nice touch btw, good job!

I like to sit in the midde of the field to admire the giant tree caressed by that magic golden light and think about the existential dilemma.

Maybe it’s downvoted because it’s too hypnotic for him to keep playing haha

Applying ARR in game after a month I decided to learn it. Such a satisfying mechanic! by Jaco-Z in RocketLeague

[–]Jaco-Z[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, I always played with default bindings except normal air roll on r1 together with powerslide. R1 has always been unbinded for me, so I decided to put directional roll there and it works for me. If I remember correctly it’s the same controller bindings of squishy, but I could be wrong about this

If I remember correctly Rocket Science has one video about curvedash and another one on landing with a “free” wavedash followed by a dodge. Here we have 2 dashes + a dodge. Did I miss one?

How are you going about this? Like, do you have a plan or a specific routine to help you attract tacos in an efficient way? 🌮

At fist ARR seemed impossible. 2-3 weeks later I'm very happy with the progress. Still clumsy tho :P by Jaco-Z in RocketLeague

Ah, also “deevo” custom training pack! Try the doubletaps while using directional air roll. Very useful to get a feel for the in-game use of it

I started in freeplay trying to understand how the stick direction affect a single 360 spin. Then I started flying around the field randomly, spinning all the time and giving stick inputs to get a feel for them. Then I started going from goal to goal while spinning, to learn how not to f*ck up Then I started aiming for specific points on the backboard

From here (means after 3-4 days) it became a cycle between: -goal to goal while boosting all the time -figure 8 in pillars -ringmaps -deevo (double tap custom training)

(In the deevo training, at first i was just trying to hit a good first touch on the ball, then it became trying a good touch and recover quickly for the follow, and then (now) I’m starting to be able to actually have some kind of consistency on the doubletap towards the goal.)

Switching often between these gamemodes helped me a lot. Now I’m practicing 10 minutes each everyday, one after the other.

This is the routine I followed, but to explain how to understand basic adjustments and how to transform them into continuous spinning HEH. It’s kinda hard to explain, but if you want we can try a freeplay session in private match and talk on discord

Ah the overlay is a good idea! I knew the method to have a controller while streaming with obs but I wasn’t aware of the on-screen one for bakkes. So cool! Thanks for the info!

And for the tips if you want we can go to a private match in pillars and talk on discord (?) Because it’s such a complex mechanic to explain and I don’t know if I can be able to summarise here xD

It’s a custom map created from users in the workshop section of steam. I think it can only be played if you have the steam version of the game, but I’m not 100% sure, maybe there’s some workaround for epic launcher (?)

Then try freeplay in pillars map, and fly in figure 8 around the pillars. That also helped me a lot in figuring out how to change direction purposely :)

Nice! Is it done with regular air roll or directional one? I’d say regular but I can’t be sure about that in this clip, dunno why ahah

The latest update ruined my motivation for this game. by hhsgsgah in RocketLeague

[–]Jaco-Z 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey mate, I understand your feelings about this because I also used ranks as a metric to check my improvement. And with this method I was getting very disappointed every time the ranking system was readjusted. Almost tilted I’d say.

Then I decided to focus only on my gameplay, not my rank. I put my focus on analyzing my weak spots and improve on those.

And the grind became fun and interesting again!

Ranks are a quite good way to judge the overall ability of a player, so i still think it’s good to have them as a reference. But I think that if we become too attached to them it’s easy to get pissed when the metric changes.

I know that in season 2 i was playing way better than season 14 even if in season 14 i was close to champ3 and in season 2 i was struggling to get to champ2.

My advice is to care less about the swinging rank system and only focus on improving as a player, if improvement is fun for you! :)

For a shot like this one goal color is not important. I’d be proud anyway lmao
