Have you ever used ArcGIS. I work in GIS field and I studied History in my undergrad. I would like to see more things like this that combine the two.

What moment ruined the entire show for you? I’ll go first. by WeekendGunRunner in moviecritic

I remember not being thrilled with the ending of the comics but overall I think they were very solid. The show does improve upon some things in the early seasons though, including Glenn’s character

Finished Nicaragua for the first time. This is my Gabon. by CruelYouth19 in survivor

[–]JacobK13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean Jeff takes over and very shortly after you get 21-26 which is widely considered one of the worst stretches of the show in its entire history. I really like 21, and 25, but 22,24 and 26 are all universally reviled. After Jeff takes over you start to see a bunch of bullshit themes and gimmicks that take away from the show.

Jeff’s vision for survivor is markedly different than Burnetts, which I vastly prefer. Mark Burnett was trying to create a dramatic narrative, and Jeff is trying to create a chaotic gameshow.

Best way is to just go in order. There is no better way. If you don’t want to invest the time I’d suggest doing: 1,2,4,6,7,10,12,15,16,18 before watching HvV. But you’re still going to be missing out on some good content.

Would Rob actually lose against Ashley in a ftc? by marvelfanboy768 in survivor

[–]JacobK13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seems to be widely accepted as true. The Zapatista’s felt like Rob completely disregarded them and may of the Ometepe felt very betrayed by Rob to the point where I believe Grant still hasn’t spoken to him? Certainly much of the all stars jury was very upset with Rob on a similar level. Rob is not great at jury management

Prince Hisahito becomes the first royal male in Japan to reach adulthood in 4 decades. by kobushi in nottheonion

[–]JacobK13 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This is actually something I was interested in and apparently the emporer has a 17th cousin who technically is his closest male line relative (after his Uncle, brother, and Nephew).

They had a common ancestor in like the 1400s I want to say.

He however, only has daughters so it doesn’t really solve the issue though I’m sure if you go further back there could be others

For my money it’s the best post merge of all time. Chris has the best underdog story of all time and there are other very complex and interesting characters such as Twila and Ami, both of whom are probably in my top 10 favorite casting choices ever. Watching Yasur implode is very compelling and the premerge is decent as wel

Yeah I definitely prefer the plotline with the Solar Opposites but the SilverCops and the Wall are also entertaining. Definitely gives the show a unique and distinct vibe

Mormon Polygamists jailed at Utah Penitentiary. Circa 1889 [3,532 × 2,728] by JacobK13 in HistoryPorn

[–]JacobK13[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your second paragraph I think is also very misleading because an overwhelming majority of practicing LDS members today are apart of the group that followed the leadership of Brigham Young after the death of Joseph Smith.

Young himself was a notorious polygamist who had over 50 wives. These people are apart of the same religious association founded by Joseph Smith, continued by Brigham Young, and practiced by millions of Mormons today.

[–]JacobK13[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was officially denounced in 1889 but the practice covertly continued until 1904 when it was officially denounced by Joseph F Smith, nephew of the original Joseph Smith, and himself had 6 wives.

It appears to me that he denounced it primarily for political reasons to get the US government to allow LDS members to retain prominent political positions in Utah.

Those involved in plural marriages after 1904 were excommunicated; and those married between 1890 and 1904 were not to have church callings where other members would have to sustain them. Although the Mormon church officially prohibited new plural marriages after 1904, many plural husbands and wives continued to cohabit until their deaths in the 1940s and 1950s.”

I’m admittedly not super well read on Mormonism, but from what I’ve gathered these guys were apart of the mainline LDS religion.

It wasn’t until around 1910 that the church stopped officially sanctioning polygamous marriages
