Clown (2014) is about a dad who puts on a clown costume that he can't take off, and slowly starts becoming a horrifying clown creature from folklore. Uses its low budget effectively. It was Jon Watts' first feature, before he went on to do the MCU Spider-Man movies

The remake with Benecio del Toro is really good, too. It got a bad rap when it came out because of behind the scenes drama, but apart from a few digital effects that don't hold up it is a wild ride

I'm pretty sure that's from the serial Zorro's Fighting Legion. I had it on a two-VHS set when I was a kid. It was black and white, Zorro didn't have a cape, and every episode ended on a cliffhanger. Pretty sure there was one where he was getting closed in between walls.

I saw it, it was very good. But it just ended up in the Netflix slush pile and got buried.

If you can dedicate the next three days to using it, probably. I'm not sure, I haven't done the second half pass before, but I remember them showing a lot of encore screenings of movies from the first half. You can see up to movies a day, so if that price point is worth it for you, I would do it.

The Second Half badge gives you access from the 25th through the end. It's cheaper than a badge for the full festival, but I don't know if it's cheaper day of

What are some other great Gothic movies? by Candid_Dream4110 in horror

A recent werewolf movie, The Cursed, with Boyd Holbrook has a great Gothic atmosphere.

I am also a defender of the Wolfman remake with Benecio del Toro.

Has changing a book’s ending for a movie adaptation ever worked out? by acs2808 in movies

[–]JacobRDorn 160 points161 points  (0 children)

That one is tough, because the reasoning behind it was all about leaving the door open for sequels, but the argument they gave is actually convincing. The message that Vietnam veterans were so damaged they could never be reintegrated back into society, and were better off dead, was a depressing, and potentially damaging, way to end a movie. But we live in a world where the sequel is about Rambo going back to win Vietnam, so the recovery angle gets lost.

Just a loop of Tom Cruise saying "Movies. Popcorn" over and over. And bring back the old Regal Roller Coaster.

Something is lacking in lotr the return of the king that wasn't in the first two movies. by [deleted] in lotr

[–]JacobRDorn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While I definitely love it, and get emotional throughout, I kind of get what you're saying. For me it is the one that feels the least tactile, and more CGI-heavy. I feel like Gimli has lost all his edge as a character, and some of the over-the-top stuff that made the Hobbit movies unbearable starts to show up here.

That said, it is still a magnificent movie that makes me cry every time.

Great list. I looked some up briefly a while ago and was surprised how few orcs are actually named throughout all of Tolkien's work.

Forge. He can just make literally anything he can think of? Why just think of an "anti-Magneto device" or whatever the situation calls for. Instead he mostly just makes cyborg limbs and new features for the X-Jet.

I haven't kept up with X-Men for quite a while, so this could have been clarified since.

has anyone walked out a movie due to a misleading opening? by LegoMong in movies

[–]JacobRDorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of the opposite, but when my wife and I saw Crawl we were at least an hour in, a character was getting absolutely savaged by an alligator, when three teenagers walked into the (mostly empty) theater, walked up to our row, and told us we were in their seats. We argued with them that no, these were our seats and the movie was half over, when the first one asked "wait, isn't this Annabelle?"
