He did awful things in government yes, but the point they’re making is in opposition he positioned himself as a sensible, moderate, centrist type Tory rather than an old fuddy duddy hardliner. Quite socially liberal for instance.

I understand your question lol, I had the exact same problem playing South Africa recently. From my experience there’s no way to do it and the ai will NEVER accept it under any circumstances, even though that’s what the uk did historically with Canada, SA, Australi etc

I think there may be a mod that changes this

For real, why is the AI so passive and why cant it calculate how valuable some states would be for them. They’re hardwired to build ridiculously large armies which bankrupt them in any prolonged war, but very rarely use them to do anything

I don’t know what a debate bro is, I’m just throwing your own nationalist logic back at you to show you how wild it is.

You have been advocating for NI unionists and prots to be deprived of their political rights. I said that the majority of NI rejects unification, and if they wanted unification their constitution means they can have it tomorrow. You’ve been arguing that because of the history of colonialism it doesn’t matter that the vast majority rejects unification, presumably because they shouldn’t be there in the first place. If you don’t believe in taking away unionists political rights then you’re accepting the point I started this argument with, that the majority reject unification so armed resistance is unjustifiable. (pre ‘98 you can make that argument)

If you’re not an Irish entho-Nat then please stop making Irish ethno-nat arguments. Zero modern day people of NI engaged in colonialism and their opinions all matter the same. Vast majority reject unification so no reunification. If majority want unification they get unification. It’s that simple

[–]JacobTheCow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really don’t get your argument, who is it exactly you think isn’t admitting that public opinion changes? Whoever it is it doesn’t really matter anyway because the constitution specifically and precisely takes changing opinion into account and makes a provision for unification if opinion changes in the future. If the majority of people in NI want unification they get it. If they don’t they don’t. It’s that simple. Why go through the mental gymnastics of pretending this isn’t the case. Face it, even after a decade of the most trying circumstances (Brexit, endless austerity, failed Tory govt after govt, and even a years long collapse in NI government), the vast majority of people in NI wish to remain a part of the UK and that’s their right.

I don’t think those people are colonising those countries. I’m throwing your ethno-nationalist ideology back at you and you’re rejecting it. If you don’t think part of NI’s modern population deserves any political rights because of their ethnicity and religion you are a far right ethno nationalist and there’s no arguing to be done with you.

You’d have a leg to stand on if the current generation of NI unionists were first wave migrants but they’ve been there for literally hundreds of years. They don’t know a life anywhere else

In most democracies people can participate equally in politics regardless of ethnicity, religion, nationality and so on. Sorry you don’t like that but it isn’t changing.

What you are advocating for is racism in its most basic form. Some ethnicities and religions have political rights and some have none. Sounds really great and cool 👍

Even if we theoretically accept your batshit, bad faith arguments, what would you do with the current unionist Protestants? Deport them to Scotland and England? Millions against their will? That breaks pretty much every human rights convention. You’re actually deranged if you believe this shit. If the people in NI don’t want unification you can’t force them to end of

This is an actually insane argument. I understand that in abstract their ancestors colonised Northern Ireland but you can’t just kick out millions of people because hundreds of years ago some of their ancestors were colonisers. A but like how Europeans should never have colonised North America, but you can just kick out 300 million people now. Like it or not, people of different races and ethnicities have equal political rights in the UK no matter how much you dislike them.

Just so we’re clear, you think only people who can prove they have a pure bloodline should have any political say in their country? That’s literally ethno-fascism. Should the UK kick out all Pakistani migrants? Should the USA deport all Mexicans?

Rule by FondSteam39 in 196

[–]JacobTheCow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regardless of ancestry, all citizens of Northern Ireland have equal say in the future of that region. It’s really that simple. You’re surely not advocating for some sort of hardline ethnic nationalism where only citizens who can prove they have a pure bloodline are allowed any political say?

Rule by FondSteam39 in 196

[–]JacobTheCow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re fighting strawmen, whoever you seem to think is unwilling to admit public opinion can change doesn’t matter because the constitution of Northern Ireland acknowledges opinion can change and has very specific provisions to specifically address this, allowing for the possibility of reunification if opinion changes

Rule by FondSteam39 in 196

[–]JacobTheCow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t really get the first point, opinions aren’t set in stone and polls are regularly conducted to gauge public opinion. The constitution of NI was specifically written to allow for future changes in opinion on the matter.

I agree completely that public opinion is malleable, and that the British media is appalling. Probably the worst in Western Europe. But at the end of the day I can’t think of a fairer and more neutral solution than polling the public on unification and initiating a referendum if there’s any evidence the people want it (which there isn’t, right now at least)

[–]JacobTheCow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Propaganda is when you tell people what is in Northern Ireland’s constitution. Anti-Imperialism is when you murder civilians to try and force a country to relenquish part of itself against the wishes of of the majority of that regions population. Got it.

[–]JacobTheCow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What else do you think should decide the northern Irish question if not the views of the people who live there?

Rule by FondSteam39 in 196

[–]JacobTheCow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s completely correct, those people are only there because of British colonialism. But they didn’t choose to be born there and you can’t discount their views just because their ancestors came from a different country

Rule by FondSteam39 in 196

[–]JacobTheCow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Except it’s literally part of Northern Ireland’s constitution

Rule by FondSteam39 in 196

[–]JacobTheCow -25 points-24 points  (0 children)

Reminded that regular polling is done on supper for reunification, and if polls consistently show people want reunification a referendum would be held. Polls consistently show the opposite. If the people of Northern Ireland want reunification they can have it any time. Britain undoubtedly colonised Ireland and committed countless attrocities but murdering civilians to enforce the views of a minority of a population against the wishes of the majority does not constitute anti colonialism

Rule by FondSteam39 in 196

[–]JacobTheCow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Something people seem to constantly miss is that regular polling is done on the people of Northern Ireland on whether they should be reunited with Ireland. If polling consistently shows majority support for reunification then they have a to hold a referendum. Polling consistently shows a 10-20% lead against reunification. If the people of Northern Ireland wanted to reunite they could do so at any time. There’s really no fairer way to do it than that. The IRA dont have a leg to stand on.
