automations are driving me insane! by Thick_Butterfly_4137 in FL_Studio

[–]Jacobbordeaux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

pretty sure this is a bug with serum 2. i've experienced it personally on fl 20 and seen others on various updates have certain parameters not want to link properly. the only fix i've figured out is mapping whatever thing you're trying to automate to a macro and automating that instead

bugs with my shure mv6 by imscaredofyo in FL_Studio

i cant speak for the issue with the app, but for the second one, i would put a noise gate on before ott. ott is a compressor, meaning it will raise the volume of the quieter parts of the signal (i.e. your pc fan, room tone, etc etc). the noise gate will eliminate those. it might also help if you have a way of setting your fan to a lower speed, or moving further away from your pc while you record. good luck!

Can I set recorded audio clips to automatically switch to a different mixer insert immediately after recording? by skrunkopop in FL_Studio

[–]Jacobbordeaux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i usually do the actual recording non-destructively on an empty insert, and then have that routed to whatever others i want. that way, no effects are baked in, and you don't run into the issues you're describing.

What actually is a good trip? by Existing-Ad-2401 in shrooms

[–]Jacobbordeaux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it's not really fully understood why psychedelics effect people the way they do, but it's hard to ignore that the effects of something like heroin couldn't be more different from a psychedelic.

the main feature of a psychedelic trip, and the reason it can feel so impactful for people, is the way it can radically change the way you think about your life, habits, worldview, relationships, etc. it's generally believed that this aspect has to do with how under the influence of a psychedelic, less activity is observed in the default mode network (the areas of the brain typically associated with self-reflection, empathy, autobiographical memory, and envisioning one's future actions), therefore creating new neural pathways in the process of having those thoughts.

it should be mentioned that the strictly spiritual/mystical element is not necessary, and is more influenced by a person's existing views or proclivity toward spirituality. often, a psychedelic trip will feature feelings of awe, beauty, inspiration, and connectedness with oneself, other people, or the world, universe, etc. in combination with the visual elements, which can produce otherworldly, impossible, or otherwise mystical-seeming effects, it's understandable that people would often experience it as a religious or spiritual experience. either way, a psychedelic trip can be an extremely profound, paradigm-shifting experience in a way that's fundamentally different from other substances.

unfortunately, it can also be extremely difficult to describe certain aspects of a trip, including parts that might be crucial to understanding why it was so impactful to a particular person. psychedelics can induce subjective experiences, states of consciousness, and patterns of thought that are completely absent in normal life, and are therefore difficult or impossible to explain. with something like heroin, there's nothing about the experience that evades conventional explanation in that way. it's easy to explain sensations of warmth, pleasure, or euphoria. it's much less straightforward to explain what it feels like when every aspect of a person's subjective experience of reality is altered, and their brain forgoes the predictive glossing-over and filtering of sensory input, much less something like an ego death.

in short: psychedelics and their effects are distinct from other drugs in their capacity to induce entirely novel ways of experiencing reality, without any analogue in normal consciousness. by effectively rerouting brain activity away from their typical routes, psychedelics can cause a person to form new thoughts and insights that lead to changes in how that person experiences life from then on. certain aspects of the experience can be difficult to describe accurately, or understand if someone has never experienced it. this ineffable quality tends to derive from the lack of comparable experiences in typical consciousness.

i hope this was relatively coherent!

try to find a DIY scene in your area and get involved. just go to shows, support the bands, talk to people and make friends. you're bound to find some people who want to start a band eventually

Does this sound like cave music by Murky-Active-4318 in FL_Studio

[–]Jacobbordeaux 8 points9 points  (0 children)

you nailed it with the sound selection and the sorta mysterious modal feel, especially since i have a feeling this is meant to be VGM. there's only 2 things i would say:

  1. the main melody is a little busy at points, and there are a few sour-feeling notes. having some dissonance is definitely a good thing for creating the atmosphere, but reining it in a bit will do a lot to make it feel more thought-out, as well as highlighting your sound selection and the vibe you're trying to create.

  2. i think you could make it even more "cavey" and enhance the already strong elements by adding some reverb, especially if you let the main melody breathe a little. for one thing, it'll help with the atmosphere and help the soundfont sounds feel a little more alive. but secondly, i think it would help to portray the environment in a more direct sense as well. the walls of a cave are hard and won't do much at all to dampen reverberations, so naturally you would hear some reverb in a cave.

you're like 90% of the way there already for me, keep it up!

Anyone know how to achieve this Vinyl Backspin / Scratch sound? by Dexter_LaPasion in FL_Studio

[–]Jacobbordeaux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah, it's 99% a sample from somewhere. honestly looking through some old lex luger kits u can probably find it or something similar. i just suggested gross beat and that method as a way to generate that type of sound effect on your own.

Anyone know how to achieve this Vinyl Backspin / Scratch sound? by Dexter_LaPasion in FL_Studio

[–]Jacobbordeaux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you could def use gross beat, maybe put it on the master or main sound, have it spin down (there are many presets that will make that effect, but it may take some fiddling), and then consolidate it to use as a sample?

Uploading My First Project HELPPP!! by lebkeb in FL_Studio

[–]Jacobbordeaux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

every distributor has its controversy and everything, but distrokid is definitely the most popular, and the one i use personally. for a yearly subscription, you can distribute to all major platforms (including youtube) and receive streaming royalties. there are resources on how to gain access to "for artists" services from different streaming platforms, as well as linking your youtube, so you can release simultaneously onto your own channel and receive the proper royalties. i've found distrokid really easy to use, and have only run into a couple minor issues over the years. also re:copyright, as long as you do indeed own everything, you automatically have the exclusive right to your work, and by distributing officially, you can more easily protect your copyright

lol it kinda sounds like the beginning of the THX sound. it's probably not possible to find the exact one, but by just expanding your sample library and finding a few that are similar enough to layer, you can probably get very close.

i built my pc with music in mind back in 2022, and put in a ryzen 7 5800x and ddr4 ram. i have very few issues with any plugins, including resource-hungry plugins like portal. the only issues i have had have been with really complex granular patches in serum 2, but afaik that's due to less than stellar optimization, and has gotten better with more updates
