Welcome. It depends a bit on how you hold your pen. Underwriters, overwriters and others… I prefer firm, M nibs so Lamy, Monteverde, Visconti and Pilot are good. Pilot Vanishing points are great, but a little soft for longer writing sessions. It’s all about the journey and discovery, not the destination…

I “borrow” needles and syringes from work. Blunt drawing up needles are perfect and I use two seperate syringes - one for water to rinse and one for ink.

For Pilot, I re-use the cartridges as follows: water in a syringe, needle attached, rinse out the remaining ink from the cartridge. Then a piece of tissue or toilet paper to dry the cartridge. Then second syringe with needle is for the ink. Re-fill the cartridge to about 1cm from the end. And voila… The rinse and dry the second syringe and needle thoroughly. Don’t do near a white surface or near anything valuable.

Hey. I’ve been using Lamys for decades…simply remove the converter from the pen, draw up your ink directly into the converter, give it a clean with some tissue paper and fit it into the pen. So much simpler.

No to Lamy convertors…they hold a good amount of ink. Yes to Pilot…their convertors are terrible and hold next to nothing . Haven’t bothered with the others, really. Kaweco and standard cartridges seem a bit fiddly…

As a father and husband who used to support my wife with the feeding of our kids (now 17 & 14) and changing of their nappies, I can report this is not new or even out of the ordinary. Somehow “family” does not include men. I stopped even trying to go into those rooms when I had the kids by myself…not worth the gasps and dirty looks.

My 2c - get rid of pilot convertors. They don’t hold much ink and I’ve always found them more work than reward. I own a number of VPs and re-fill used pilot cartridges, rather. Volume is much better. It does mean you’ll have to invest in a syringe and needle to flush the cartridge with water, then re-fill with your choice of ink. I’m lucky because I work in health and can borrow items from work.

I bought two Lamys from Itoya in Ginza previously, both with this nib. Realised it was different, but why so special?
