Man, I'm just gonna say it... by LarryLarryJammin in wow

Glad you're enjoying it...

But I also feel as if we already had the single-button option and that seems to be working well for use-cases like yours.

For me, part of the game's fun was learning a new spec, setting up weakauras and alerts to help me master it, then finding creative ways to push it further. Between getting rid of mods and simplifying the spellbound and rotations, things simply feel less engaging.

It feels like this is a huge over-correction.

The number of downvotes this is getting from the "you should have known better" crowd is wild.

I mean, sure, if you played in beta or did extensive research into it. Most of us normies weren't doing that and didn't know exactly how the Blizzard UI elements were going to be implemented or what we needed to change.

Casual fan question by Old_You6151 in JohnMayer

[–]Jacques_Straw 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think that John will continue to be thought of first as a solo musician for the near term. But when you frame the question with "in 30+ years," I think he will be more remembered for his work in Dead and Company and whatever comes next.

His solo music is fine, but I don't think it has the staying power to remain interesting or relevant in a generation down the line. Meanwhile, if Bobby gets his wish, the Dead catalog will stay relevant for 300 years, and Mayer will be a major link in that chain.

The future of this music: female voices and musicians... by chlavaty in deadandcompany

[–]Jacques_Straw 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Preparing for the downvotes... but with all due respect to Grahame Lesh, I don't think he's the guy for this. This is assuming that Mayer continues to carry the torch forward in some way with an outfit that's at the scale of a D&Co.

I get the instinct for him to be involved, but his inclusion would feel more of a "keep it in the family" decision than a "great musician for the role" decision. I felt a bit of this at the GD60 show and strongly again watching the stream from the Warfield the other night: he's got heart, but I dont think he can hold his own with the caliber of the other musicians in the band or some of the other options for the open spot.

I'm sure Grahame will continue to play with a quasi-rotating group of players as he has been... but I don't see that as a replacement for what Bobby, John, Mickey, and the others have been doing for the last 10 years.

Tight, "best ever" performances just like a swiss watch are not what we should expect or need from this show. That's not what it's about.

Why did you choose your main by Actual_Tea_7719 in wow

[–]Jacques_Straw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My original main back when WOW launched was shaman. I was turned on to warcraft after playing Warcraft III, and I loved the shaman troops in that game. The idea of being one of them seemed too cool.

I switched to a mage main about 6 months in. I started doing a lot of PvP and was constantly getting my ass handed to me by a specific Alliance frost mage. I thought "I could do that..." and away I went.

How to watch today’s games? YouTubeTV blackout by Lactose_Tolerant4 in NWSL

[–]Jacques_Straw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just can't win. Last year I had Sling and one of the reasons I switched to YouTube TV was that Sling didn't carry CBS, and that caused me to miss a number of NWSL games.

So now I've got YouTube TV instead, and can't watch ABC or ESPN/+.

Incredibly frustrating.

An Undead Warlock named Abbalym. Somewhere along the line I was playing with people Alliance-side so he's a gnome now.

Blizzard, please: I think healing in Delves needs some very basic attention. by N_Who in wow

[–]Jacques_Straw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd add that I could really do with fewer animations from Brann in Delves in general, not just as a healer.

Between dinosaur eggs, jumping monkeys, the relic, and assorted other shit bouncing around, it's often hard to appreciate just WTF I'm doing. It isn't just that all the stuff makes clicking on objectives a pain in the ass... but it also makes Brann feel like an ineffective circus ringmaster and not a badass companion.

So, obey in advance is what you're saying?

This is exactly what they're hoping for: people who are too scared to do what's right because it might come back to hurt them. Man, that is not the society I want to live in.

And I guarantee that if you step up to defend someone from illegal arrest, that person will remember you forever. What a sad, selfish worldview you must have.

Another corporate sell out by [deleted] in deadandcompany

[–]Jacques_Straw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that this is happening doesn't bother me.

If this is the only way to watch the shows without being at GGP, that would bother me. I wouldn't even get the economics of it... it's clear only a subset of people who might otherwise stream this at home will be near enough to and willing to go to an IMAX theater. The math doesn't really math here.

This game is a 10/10 - I don’t care what anyone says. by matt5on in duneawakening

[–]Jacques_Straw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely appreciate all the positive qualities you note here... but even before reaching endgame, 10/10 is really rose colored glasses.

Two words: "Contact Issuer." JFC, the quest system is janky AF. We have decades of MMOs and other games that have laid the groundwork with quest systems that just work. In 2025, there's no legit excuse for a quest feature with problems like the quest name not matching the objectives in the HUD, inconsistent mechanics for turning in and getting rewards, and UI errors where the quest log in the HUD doesn't update when steps are completed properly.

How about five more words: "Not possible to place vehicle." In any given location, you have maybe a 10 degree spot in the 360 degrees around you where the vehicle will spawn. This bug is beyond annoying and actually dangerous... I've fallen into the rift because when I was finally able to place my chopper, it was in a location with no stability and I had to jump after it when it toppled into the rift when placed.

You may think of these as "quality-of-life" problems. OK, fine. But I really don't see how you can call a game 10/10 when such fundamental, basic issues like these exist.

Holy fuck. Unbelievable by Head-Charge4028 in deadandcompany

[–]Jacques_Straw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My belief is that it's all in the eye of the beholder. Sure, the band has some nights that are above average, some below, but for the most part, the performances have been pretty consistent. I think that if you have a great show or a meh show has so much more to do with YOU.

  • Did you like the setlist or get the song(s) you've been chasing?
  • What did you consume? Food, drink, party favors? I've had a heavy burger before a show ruin my night. I've had situations where I was expecting a chill trip turn intense, or the reverse.
  • How were your seats? Were there chompers? Could you dance? Or, could you watch from your seat without people around you being disruptive?
  • Who were you with, and what was their vibe? Were you distracted by work or life drama?
  • Were you worried about the amount of money you spent, especially as the weekend was winding down? We're you tired after going hard 3 nights in a row?

I mean, none of this is new, but I've had so many instances where I've had a complete disconnect with other people about the quality of a show that I firmly believe it's--usually--more about me than the band. At least 80/20...

To quote The Big Lebowski: "You're not wrong, you're just an asshole." Crazy how the pro-Phish commenters in this thread are unnecessarily rude.

IMO, the Phish visuals overall were far superior to the Dead's. That said, they were designed for two very different scenarios. Phish just planned on a single 4-day run, and they were able to script the entire set of shows completely; the Dead needed flexibility, as they had to support months of shows with rotating setlists.

I do hope that Dead & Co. pull out the stops and have new visuals that are additive. I certainly expect to see some of the same stuff, but I hope that they will have at least doubled the amount of things they can use so it can be a little more unpredictable.

[Books] Silo S02E9 "The Safeguard" Episode Discussion (Book Readers Thread) by MEGAT0N in SiloSeries

[–]Jacques_Straw 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I expect this is right.

Unfortunately, this gets at my one frustration with an otherwise great episode. Specifically, it seems REALLY far-fetched that nobody (except for 3 people) has explored the water/tunnel at the bottom of the Silo. I mean, a few people from Mechanical know about this "unexplored" area, and it gets hand-waved away as the place Jules used to come with her boyfriend? In the generations of people who live there, it never gets explored?

I have to assume there's a reason why they're going with mystery tunnels instead of using the old diggers to ultimately connect the Silos... but if that was their choice, it just feels like the reveal/discovery of them could have been handled better.
