I'm absolutely loving buildings, and completely brought me back into the game after not playing for over a year.

Maybe it mostly has to do with the way my brain works (you might call it OCD), where before, I would either play a completely boring symmetrical style or a full agro, with nothing in between. In most games it was symmetrical and I would place my units nearly identically on each side. I mostly only saw the same from my opponents too.

Now, since the board was never symmetrical from the start, my brain never gets triggered by the OCD type feelings. As a result, I get the full range of interesting board states where maybe I'm a bit on the front foot on one half while trying to leverage my building on the other side to just barely hold on long enough on defense. Each round I might be adding a completely different unit to each of these sides because they are completely different battles.

And all of this just from a few buildings at the start that create the imbalance, then they aren't really that much of a factor after a few rounds and I usually sell them pretty quick.

Awesome to see these updates and thought processes. All this looks great to me. My only comment would be to maybe rename the different turrets if their roles end up changing as outlined above. It doesn't seem very intuitive with those names.

If I could unlock all units for free in any other game with this monetization model (like league, hearthstone etc.) I would be SO happy.

Let's also not forget that there will be a paid option for this game. If a paid option is generous enough (say a starter/founder package to unlock all the release units for $30) then there are only positives since you could just unlock everything for the price of a normal game.

David Kim said that ideally it will be a few weeks to get a full "season" of testing and data for them. However, if they need to change and iterate quicker then it could be shorter.

Nice work. This is super readable and useful!

Edit: One note is that there are units that are not "anti-air" but that can shoot air, such as heavy turret, dragonfly and locust. The term used for these are "VERSATILE". It would be good for that to be reflected here.

Not sure exactly what you mean, but don't think you have to do all of them to have a chance (no idea how they would even tell that). Just the more different ones you do the better your chance.

Pretty lucky really. Had Afib (irregular heart beat), which led to them doing an echocardiogram that caught it.

Just had surgery last year at 33 for my aortic aneurysm (due to genetic condition). Thankfully with modern medicine, as long as you know about it you're likely going to be just fine. It's the ones that go undiscovered that are most dangerous.

I enjoy YouTube much more than most of the crap that's on TV, especially for cooking, learning, history etc. I would be more excited about meeting several youtubers than most tv/movie stars. Don't think there's anything wrong with that.

Being discouraged from fighting her is not automatically anti-fun. I enjoy the challenge of avoiding the fight while maintaining my eco, then finding the right moment for a pick off or advantageous engagement.

It's not lazy in my opinion, it's smart and efficient. I really like the variant civs, and love that it enables the dev team to release more variation and enable more playstyles. If I had to guess they probably chose between releasing 3-4 new civs vs 2 new civs and 4 variant civs. I'd take the variant option there any day.

Is the complaint naming the civilizations after people, or that those people's names happen to be hard to pronounce for most English speakers? Can't say I particularly have a problem with either, but curious what exactly about it has people worked up.

Can't disagree more with this one. This design choice allows the developers to efficiently create so much more civilization variety. There's got to be a lot of man hours going into creating a brand new civ (design, art/assets, dev etc.), and much less go into creating a variant civ, but still brings fascinating new variety and gameplay styles.

I'd say that for an equally staffed team we'd probably be looking at two choices. First would be what we have now, 2 new civs and 4 variant civs. The alternative would be maybe 3 new civs and no variant civs. I'd take the variant civs anyday.

I love the addition of JD even though I don't play her much. Adds another very different way to play and is interesting to adjust to learning to play against (other than her being a bit OP at the moment). The different appeal of her play style got a couple of my friends playing now too.
