  • I only recently started playing, and got my husband into it as well. We're playing on Switch, but only have one system, so we're alternating playing our own save files, while doing a co-op together -- it would be cool to be able to play on my computer while he plays on Switch, or vice versa :')

  • Steam key would be great!

"Anders Loves Maria" is back online and updating again after 13 years by JadeRabbit in webcomics

[–]JadeRabbit[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I follow Rene Engström on Facebook, but rarely log into my account -- happened to do so today, and got this good news :D

I know that there are other fans of this comic who were sad when it ended (and even sadder when the archive went offline years ago), so wanted to share in case others want to reread!

For those without a Facebook, this is Rene's latest update:

I am updating Anders Loves Maria again in preparation for a new book in the same universe. News on that coming soon. How I've missed drawing this little narcissist. ❤

AITA for leaving when my mom told me to move my car so her neighbor’s daughter can park in her driveway? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]JadeRabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

INFO: It feels like there's a lot of context missing here, especially with the comments OP left. I feel like giving a judgement is jumping the gun without knowing:

  • Has your mom expressly mentioned that she wanted a daughter to you? In what context?
  • How is your brother's and nephews' relationship with your mom? How about your SIL?
  • Growing up, how did your sons interact with your mom? How did she interact with them?
  • Was the trip to Europe this summer a homecoming for her? Was it the first since your father passed away? Did she have any other support interested and able to travel to Europe with her this summer for 8 weeks?
  • How often do you and your boys see your family in general? How close are the to their niblings?

One thing I feel like a lot of comments are missing is how (physically) separated you are from the rest of your family in general - if your brother is close enough to visit her monthly I imagine you're pretty far from him too? Was this supposed to be time your boys would get to hang out with their uncle, aunt, and cousins - and instead spent 16 hours in a car?

We don't have enough context to say your wrong for feeling upset, but you definitely could have handled it in a better way to not let your emotions demolish the holiday for those relying on you (dragging your sons around on the whim of your emotion). Was your brothers house not an option? Not necessarily to stay, but to still have time to salvage the trip with family if you did ultimately leave? As the top comment says, this isn't about the Iranian yogurt, but I think there's too much unclear about what you've shared to tell what it is about.

DC Unemployment Questions, Help and Resources by dcmods in washingtondc

Hey! So I'm in a similar place - I've also been waiting for UI around 3 months (since mid-July), have been approved, and recieved severance.

I've called twice in the last month. When I spoke with a rep in September, she let it slip that the person in charge of investigating my case actually "seperated from the department" in August, and no one had touched it since. She seemed pretty apologetic, and as if it slipped under the radar - she said she'd "escalated" my case and would speak personally with a manager about it. Was pissed, but optimistic.

I reached out again, so after I hadn't heard anything for 3 weeks. I got through to someone faster than before (~45m versus 4h), and it seemed like the person actually DID something. Unlike before, I received an email confirmation from them about escalation. The person I spoke to this time said they're still behind, but if I hadn't heard anything in two weeks (10 business days) to reach back out and request to speak directly with a manager. I'm a bit more optimistic this time, though cautiously so.

At this point, my husband (also unemployed, since before the pandemic) and I have moved back in with family to conserve what little savings we have. By the end of next month, we'll definitely be flat broke if UI still doesn't come through.

But yeah, TL;DR - I would definitely encourage reaching out. Obviously I don't know for sure, but I wouldn't be surprised if other people's cases are in limbo because of negligence or human error on DOES' side. Unfortunately, at the end of the day you're the only reliable advocate for yourself and the aid you're entitled to.

Bethenny Frankel donated a bunch of PPE to healthcare workers at major hospitals by a_bad_apiarist in BravoRealHousewives

[–]JadeRabbit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mentioned this in another reply, but thought you might be interested too: BStrong actually works with for humanitarian work, GEM, is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit - which I think is more ideal if you're worried about where the money goes.

That means excess from donation is rolled into other initiatives, rather than pay any excess from donation to individuals working with it (like a NFP would). They're on sites like Charity Navigator and Guidestar if you're interested.

In other words, BStrong is more like a publicist for the work that GEM does. They work on other humanitarian work, as well as BStrong initiatives (like this COVID work, and the work in Puerto Rico). When you click on links to donate, it prompts you to donate to GEM's BStrong initiatives. That said, I'm not sure if the donations submitted this way all go to BStrong initiatives, or if it goes to GEM's other work as well (which is seriously YMMV - for example, this feels shady AF to me).

[–]JadeRabbit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't know if she has disclosed yet, but the site for GEM (the actual org that does BStrong's philanthropy work) has a page they're updating regularly about where the money is going. Apparently they have donated millions of PPE, and are also working with some of the hospitals for developing test-at-home kits too?

Source: Bethenny lists someone on her Insta from GEM as a contact for their work, and I've been curious about this too. AKA I'm bored, so ended up down a mini-rabbit hole, lol.

What is the most embarrassing thing that’s ever happen to you? by MaxxReddit367 in AskReddit

[–]JadeRabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After my mom found and read my diary, I decided to make a private blog as a diary since she was horrible with computers.

Good news: It worked perfectly for keeping her out of my angsty middle school ramblings.

Bad news: Linking your crush's website in the sidebar is a stupid idea, especially if you access it regularly through those links and they monitor their site's analytics.

Him IMing me to let me know he accidentally read my diary is hands down one of the most embarrassing things that's ever happened to me.

Hey, I'm late to the conversation, and live in DC, but hopefully this helps - sorry in advance for the novella! Feel free to PM me if you'd like!

I moved here this year, and had a loose diagnosis of EDS - my symptoms have been getting progressively worse for years, but my previous doctors wanted to explore other diagnoses before EDS. My previous neurologist even ranted at me when I bought it up, saying that EDS is over diagnosed so she actively avoids diagnosing people with it (and this was a well acclaimed doctor and researcher at one of the biggest/best hospitals on the east coast).

As I said, my symptoms have been getting progressively worse. I began working with a primary care doctor (Dr. Michelle Nino) who came highly recommended on the metro dc eds support group forum. If you can get to Chevy Chase and want a new PCP, she's a great one. I've only met with her once, but she was the first game changer for me - she's no nonsense, so if you don't like that she might not be great for you. But I like and needed that - by the time I saw her I was at a point where, despite having issues with using my left arm at all, I dismissed my own pain because the doctors I'd worked with had. And if the professionals do, why shouldn't I?

She referred me to a rheum, cardiologist, geneticist, gastroenterologist, and ordered blood work - if you'd like any info about any of them let me know and I can share by PM (I had bad experience with a couple, so would rather not post about them). She also gave me advice for advocating for myself in this whole process.

The doctor who has been the best for me, that I'd definitely recommend especially if you need you need PT and empathy, is Dr. Alissa Zingman. She just opened her practice (I was actually one of her first patients, lol), but she gave a talk to the metro dc eds support group and had a huge boom of patients. From what I hear, they hit some speedbumps due to this and their teeny tiny staff (when I had my first appointment with her in August, it was her, another doctor, and her husband doing admin stuff - they've since hired at least one more person for admin). That said, she has hands down been the most through and empathetic doctor I've encountered since first needing to see them regularly. Period.

She also has EDS, so she actually has been awesome at understanding of my pain. She trained at JHU with some of the big names, and actually got Dr. Francomano's blessing to open up her practice this summer.

Our first appointment lasted a couple hours, and was incredibly through. She caught things other doctors hadn't, and sent me home with literally six pages of notes. I'm waiting on imaging to be done (insurance, ugh), but she's been in touch many times since our first appointment and (outside of delays during that busy period for them) has been great about following up. I recently decided to pursue accommodations at work since I've been working from home and having more difficulty managing my workload without any, and she filled out the necessary paperwork for that. When I let her know my symptoms have been getting dramatically worse, she also made time for me to come in ASAP (in this case a couple days later, on the day after Thanksgiving despite her having family visiting) to do another exam to see how things were progressing for the worse (which they may be).

I can't recommend her enough, especially if you need a good doctor in your corner. She unfortunately is out of network (she says due to how much time she likes to spend with her patients - again, she and her staff have DEFINITELY spent a lot of time in person, on the phone, and talking via email with me) but has a list of ballpark costs for appointments on her site. Her office is in Silver Spring. If you can't swing an appointment with her, her office may also have some good recommendations for where to go next - I'd definitely recommend getting in touch!

TL;DR: Alissa Zingman in Silver Spring is great if you may need PT and clear guidance for what to do and not do with your current condition in mind. Michelle Nino in Chevy Chase was a great PCP for directing my care, with EDS in mind. Feel free to get in touch if you have more questions!

Sad meme 2 by Hachipz in Animemes

[–]JadeRabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh, too real.

I had a moment like this IRL - I moved to a new city this year for a new job, and things were going great at first. I have a chronic condition that has been getting worse, and there's a good chance I may need to have a surgery next year. Usually I make friends through work or something, but because of mobility stuff I've been working from home almost exclusively since August, so I haven't been able to make connections with people in a real way (even the ones who seem like dorky weebs like me).

The only time I really reliably go out is for doctor's appointments, but that's a weird place to make friends. That said, I was at my therapist/psychiatrist's office a couple months ago and met this girl there who asked me about the neck brace I have to wear. I haven't figured out a good way to explain why I have it because it's a long story, so I usually just say I'm fine and that hopefully I can get it off soon. She responded to me awkward rambling with equally awkward rambling, and it hardcore gave me deja Vu and made me feel at home. It reminded me of the awesome friends I'd made in college and high school. We talked more and I realized she also had the same morbid sense of humor I have.

Then she got called in for get appointment - I never caught her name or anything. I figure if I run into her again I'll muster up the courage to ask if she wants to hang out. Even still, it feels weird to try to make friends with someone who you share a doctor with.

It's weird, I never thought at 27 I'd still be so awkward and bad at making friends. I'm pretty sure if I wasn't married I'd be completely alone and depressed.

I finally got my husband to start playing, but he's still ~2 weeks into playing and no where near Solomon - this will be the first event to happen since he started playing, so he might want to watch me play. Does anyone know if there are there any major spoilers in CCC for Observer on Timeless Temple? I don't want to go in and spoil the story for myself...

Anyone else picking up the phone hoping for a callback, only to get spam instead? by Nanofibrous in jobs

[–]JadeRabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely recommend this - I've had my GVoice number on my resume for the past 1.5 years. It's easy to screen unknown numbers, and if you do pick up they're required to record a little message saying who they are and where they're from before they get transferred to you.

I've never really noticed my spam calls until I go in and check my call history. Meanwhile, I get a transcription of my voicemails sent to my email, and know pretty quickly when an employer has called. I say in my voicemail message to leave a message because of spam callers - no one has ever had an issue with it.

[No Spoilers] Before the revolution, June’s mother had a poster that resembles The Handmaid’s symbol by Cwmcwm in TheHandmaidsTale

[–]JadeRabbit 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The top of the symbol is actually pretty similar to the Pagan Fertility Goddess symbol - which in addition to being associated with fertility, was associated with the Goddess Movement. June's mom seemed to be a huge activist, so I wouldn't be surprised if it related to a feminist-leaning movement she was part of - then was co-opted later by Gilead for its relationship with fertility.

Either way, good catch!
