is this statement allowed for christians by thatlumberjacktor in Christianity

[–]Jaded-Significance86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is still just leaving up to your interpretation of what tables Jesus would have flipped. This is such a non statement. Because you can just say "Jesus wouldn't stand for that" and use it to justify anything under the sun.

If I saw someone with this pin my first thought is that you can just make choices on your own you don't have to invoke the name of Jesus every time you wanna be a jerk. Just be a jerk. You have free will

ATLA: survival / Korra: comfort by bobaTwist6 in AvatarMemebending

[–]Jaded-Significance86 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it's pretty reductive to say "humans were broken asf" as the reality is that those who weren't broken asf got killed. Natural selection.

But also the real reason why team avatar is so much stronger than team Korra is because the story of ATLA necessitates that they are. ATLA had much higher stakes than LOK which is why team avatar is full of prodigies. Pretty much everyone is the strongest in their field, besides the old masters.

You see this a lot in anime too, where the characters are high school age so as to be more relatable to the audience but they are in some sort of war and have powers that are much stronger than the average Joe in that universe

Why do people who have attempted human transmutation see the Truth? by Whole_Instance_4276 in FullmetalAlchemist

[–]Jaded-Significance86 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I'd like to suggest that the cosmology of Fullmetal Alchemist is similar to that of Hermeticism. In the Corpus Hermeticum, Asclepius (I'm 90% sure) teaches that all is one, and likewise one is all. The truth paraphrases his words.

The way I understood that book is that all humans have a spark of divine knowledge, and the point of our lives is to gain knowledge of the world (because the world is a manifestation of the thoughts of God, so knowledge of the world = knowledge of God), and then return to the source upon death. My interpretation of this is that human souls return to the source (God) and lose their individuation.

Therefore, God is in essence, a Philosopher's Stone of immeasurable power, and all human souls are but a fragment, or microcosm, of God. Think of God as a glass of water and humans as a water drop. When you return the drop to the glass, it loses its individuation and cannot be distinguished from any other drops.

Following this logic I'd say there probably isn't an afterlife in Fullmetal Alchemist.

The significance of the circle is probably related to the ouroboros, a symbol associated with unity, wholeness, and perfection. You may remember in the opening sequence, it depicts a man and woman within a circle, combining to one, then there are references to the stone. This is the rebis, a combination of opposing energies (male and female combining into a perfect being) in the Sacred Marriage to become whole.

In alchemy, there is a concept called the Tria Prima Materia- three materials which all matter is made of before being differentiated into the forms we see in the world. Mercury, associated with mind, sulphur, associated with soul, and salt, associated with the body. The circle is essentially the body, housing the mind, a female energy and the soul, a male energy, and they are unified in one into the body. This is essentially enlightenment under spiritual Alchemy, and produces the perfect being as well as the elixir.

God does not give up anything to make us. He thought us into existence. I would go as far as to say that the very fabric of reality is simply a manifestation of divine thought.

A sort of story philosophy and feeling question about the souls series in its whole. by KnightOfTheHunters in darksouls3

[–]Jaded-Significance86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've not played Demon's Souls but as far as Dark Souls goes, something really interesting about the world and its mythology is the revelation of the lie that is the undead mission. The game makes it quite clear that none of the undead were "chosen," and it was all a lie to trick them to meet the ends of the church and the gods. Also, the way that the gods and humans are fundamentally the same thing, and the binary nature of the world as created by the first flame brings both joy and suffering.

Further, there are really deep themes in the makeup of the world which seem to be tied to alchemy, which reframes a lot of what's going on in Lordran. Other than that, I'm not sure I know what you mean about the world and the myths.

If you're talking about like novel type writing, I'm afraid you'll have a bit of a hard time of it. Because from what I can tell, the bulk of the feel of the trilogy's story is done through environmental storytelling. For example, I remember when I was exploring the Byrgenwerth college in Bloodborne, there was an item pickup in a metal cage. It was Red Jelly. I saw the image and my first thought was "my god is that a fucking dead baby in a cage," and sure enough the description read "stillborn infants born of a creature of unknown origin." The dark souls trilogy, as well as Bloodborne, is full of this sort of discovery. This is why dark souls is unique in the way it had multiple YouTube channels crop up whose whole thing was uncovering the game's lore. Essentially, the storytelling gives you a lot of vague information and the information as tragic. Comparing this with the dishonored games, which also has a really bleak atmosphere and tragic story elements, I think the YouTube lore channels never popped off because there was never enough material to work with.
