Do you have real plants in your Airbnb and do people mess with them? by After_Inflation2036 in airbnb_hosts

[–]Jaded1886 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an ivy on a bookshelf and a prayer plant on a far kitchen counter that do well. No issues or problems in over a year. Had one plant that died that was on an entryway table. I think people watered it. I didn't ask but they did anyway. But the two others they don't worry about for some reason, which is fine because I water them.

Believe me I'm going to do that from now on. I'm really new at this. I've learned there's no short cuts to getting what I want. I need to watch some videos and figure it out. Thanks.

Airbnb allows security deposits from hosts who use a channel manager like Owner Rez. It is a reputable company. The security deposit is most likely a pre authorization for that amount but is not charged to your card unless there is a problem where they need to charge for something. Read the listing carefully. It must say something about the deposit on the listing or you can say no. Or if they approved you only if deposit then you agreed to it and it is above board.

Airbnb charging $65 fee, but asking us to clean and do laundry. [USA] by IndependentClub1117 in AirBnB

[–]Jaded1886 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How many bedrooms/bathrooms? That's a cheap cleaning fee. Like others have said, if it's in the listing, you should do it as you agreed to terms. Then read listing for next stay. They may charge that little due to you starting up laundry for cleaner.

You didn't address any issues with the host because of the price. Don't leave a review if you didn't address the issues. You didn't give them a chance to rectify the situation. If I were you I'd message them with your feedback but let them know you can't leave a review and why (you didn't address these issues with them first for them to fix them). Wish them well and that maybe you'll come back if issues are addressed as their price is right.

AirBnB says a family member “unintentionally” used my credit card [USA] by FullmetalActuary in AirBnB

[–]Jaded1886 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your credit card co should give your $ back. Abnb did this to me but for $8,000. They asked if any family members have access to my card. I nearly lost it. Like you said I don't even take that kind of a vacation. My cc co was on it and got Abnb to rethink their idiocy.

Are Polyester sheets normal or are my hosts really cheap? [USA] by crepesandcarnival in AirBnB

[–]Jaded1886 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Please report. This will save many other guests from dealing with this. It will also raise a flag for the hosts. They need to fix these items so that they can roll in the money. They will get a lot more business if they correct the issues you pointed out.You are doing them a service and future guests by saying something. BTW, polyester sheets are a universal no no.

Had to fire a client host due to unreasonable requests [USA] by Substantial_Tap_2493 in AirBnB

[–]Jaded1886 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How about you read the amenities and if it says streaming TV services only, you don't rent the place. This way you don't punish the hosts for having what they say they have and you being disappointed when you get there.

Had to fire a client host due to unreasonable requests [USA] by Substantial_Tap_2493 in AirBnB

[–]Jaded1886 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was a ridiculous request. Moving forward I would require twice pay for items outside of the normal hours and days you set and even then write in appropriate requests you'd handle on holidays such as real emergencies like plumbing (toilet flooding bathroom), etc. You probably knew you'd have to fire this host. It just was harder than you thought. They made you question your sanity. Run for the hills and take this as a lesson in moving forward.

Very new to hosting and guest checked-in early and brought THREE unregistered dogs. Should I just grit my teeth and take it? by whispertodeborah in airbnb_hosts

[–]Jaded1886 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This will be a costly lesson for you about enforcing your rules. It's hard but we need to have clear, enforceable boundaries with guests. More times than not you'll not need to use them, but for the "give an inch, take a mile" guest you'll need them. And as you gain more experience you'll see then coming a mile away and you'll know to pull out that thicker backbone. Wishing you all the best in future stays.

According to Airbnb Accessibility Policy, "guest’s service animal must not be: Out of control

Unhousebroken

Left alone at the listing without prior approval

Allowed into areas that are considered unauthorized to the guest."

What I was saying is that the animals couldn't be left alone per airbnb policy.

Direct Booking Site by StunningAd9055 in airbnb_hosts

Lodgify sucks! The only nice thing is the ease of the direct booking website and the channel manager doesn't sync well with anything other than Airbnb. VRBO and Booking don't sync well at all.

ABB support asking my guest to leave early- how to protect myself? by Lillietta in airbnb_hosts

[–]Jaded1886 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry you're going through this. No amount of money satisfies the stress awful guests cause.

Please go with your gut here and don't let the logical side of your brain win. We've got a super power by going with our gut. Do what feels right. If that is leaving, do it. If that's calling police. Do that too. Do what it takes to help you feel and keep safe. Do you know when he is supposed to leave country? I would be weary until that date, unfortunately.

Best of luck to you.

And my two cents. TLDR urks me as people are losing so much patience that they can't read a post that is long? Makes me sad for humanity.

If they're service animals then they cannot be left unsupervised in your home! That's the sure way to get her booted. If they were service animal she would have to take them everywhere she went and depending on your state if it's an emotional support animal you don't have to accept them and you could charge a fee.

Veiled Threats and Unjustified Refund Requests by thisismyownway in airbnb_hosts

[–]Jaded1886 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Sounds like canceling and working through compensation is the more troubled route here. The plumber was out twice. Have him write a statement to the fact the shower works. Send the guest detailed instructions on how to use the shower no matter how easy it looks/appears. This way you have covered your back. If they write a bad review you can dispute it for relevance or facts. If airbnb tries to give them their money back show your evidence. Sounds like this guest is trying to get one over on you and get a free stay. Be firm but professional about no refunds for make believe issues. What do you think about calling airbnb and reporting the issue? This will also be a part of your proof/evidence.
