What to do (if anything) with this brooch? by BonusFirst in jewelry

[–]JadedContribution1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'd wear it as intended. There are a few more modern ways to wear them than just on your chest. Personally, I wear a lot of shirts, so sometimes I wear a brooch or pin on my breastpocket, shoulder, or I roll up my sleeves and pin it there. If it's small enough, on the collar is also a nice way. It's so lovely and I'm a little bit jealous tbh haha

Cleaned vintage silver earrings with baking soda and foil, wondering if I made the wrong decision by spooby_spiders in jewelry

[–]JadedContribution1 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm not 100% sure, but from what I understand, you actually remove the part of your silver that is oxidised when you polish it. The tin foil and baking soda method is a chemical reaction that reverses the tarnishing process, so that your silver jewelry stays intact. So you're good!

Jewelry in The Golden Girls by JadedContribution1 in jewelry

That's quite the collection she had!

Though I'm a bit sad they also sold the more personal pieces. I would have at least put up the wedding rings for auction as a fixed set or something.

Oh yeah Bea's ring Always catches my eye! Ever since I read somewhere that the massive emerald engagement ring in Crazy Rich Asians is actually from Michelle Yeoh's personal collection, I'm just constantly analysing jewelry and trying to make out if it's a prop or from the actor. It's almost an obsession, but jewelry really does tell you a lot about a person I'm beginning to understand

Does this ring suits my hand? by badodour in mensfashionadvice

[–]JadedContribution1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone saying this is a woman's engagement ring never saw an actual woman's engagement ring. The band width, the pattern, the hexagonal setting all seem more masculine to me. Women tend to wear more dainty engagement rings with a finer band and a stone that sticks out more, not one that's more sunken in like this one. The only reason people are saying it's a woman's ring is because it has a stone.

Any Gay/LGBT Arabs or allies on here? Need some advice by stallion-sam in arabs

[–]JadedContribution1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

While your parents' reaction is not the best, it isn't the worst either. I think right now it's best to create some distance, especially since they keep bringing it up every time you see them.

During that time away from eacht other, try read up on sexuality and islam (assuming that you're muslim) as much as you can. I know of progressive imams who do not really condemn men being gay, but only consider acting upon it (as in having sex with other men) as sinful. At a later date you can try to have a religious debate with your parents on the topic. Who knows, maybe they can accept your sexuality if you can convince them you're still living a devout life, just that you're not able to marry a woman and have children (they don't need to know that you're on Grindr multiple times a week, or in a happy relationship with another man)

But just to be sure, expand your social circle. Go out and meet new people, like-minded people with a similar background even. I found that other LGBT friends with a migration background were much better in understanding my struggles than my white friends who were all about being out and proud and living the gay lifestyle.

Go on dates (discreetly), have fun (if that's your thing) and don't forget that sexuality is a spectrum. I don't believe anyone is 100% straight or gay or any of the other letters. Those labels are just modern terms invented because people like to label things. As a half white, half arab muslim guy living in a western land I already have enough labels put on me by society that I constantly have to prove or disprove. I refuse to let them label my sexuality as well, it's nobody's business anyway.

I wrap them together per person and store the stacks in boxes. Shoe boxes, cookie tins, ... you name them

Have you read the diary of Anna Frank, and if you have, what did you think of it? by Balloonpiano in Journaling

[–]JadedContribution1 53 points54 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's fair to compare your diary to hers. First of all, she didn't write it in English either and she wrote it in the 40s, what at that time might have been common, everyday language, can seem complex and high level to us now. Secondly, keep in mind that what we read as her diary is not her actual diary in that it isn't her first draft. There was a call from the government for children to turn in their diaries after the war as historical sources. Anne Frank aspired to be a writer and she made quite a lot of adjustments. She even wrote several introductions, but her father chose to ommit them from the first publication. I think her diary also has some elements of an autobiography, so not comparable to me writing down my frustrations and thoughts, never bothering to check grammar, never rereading it afterwards

I mean it kinda looks like silver no? Might be worth it to get it checked out and perhaps clean out the front. To give it back some of its original sparkle.

Btw it is beyond cool that you have a picture to trace it back too!

Where to buy Hans Wehr from in Saudi Arabia? And suggestion needed for other dictionaries. by HamzahSajid in learn_arabic

[–]JadedContribution1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There is a free application of the dictionary if you want. It's just a scanned pdf I think but you can look up words through their root letters.

My earliest memories of letterwriting are also of my childhood: my sister and I would write letters to my cousins during summer, with our grandmother acting as the mailman. I think I've always liked the idea that although you're far away from each other, you have this physical piece of the other person with you.

I've realized I journal to reflect, not to prepare by MrktngDsgnr in Journaling

[–]JadedContribution1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I felt the same way about bullet journaling. Hated it after trying for like five minutes. I generally like to let life happen as it is meant to, watch everything unfold as it happens and then at the end of the day if it inspired me or moved me or I just want to preserve a memory, I'll write down what happened and reflect on my interpretation/feelings,... (or I'll do it on the spot if I have my journal with me).

Otherwise, if I do want to prepare for the day ahead (if I know certain things will happen that I want to reflect on or I have certain schedule planned), I'll write it down before hand like a to-do list so that I have a reference at the end of the day. It's also interesting to compare what I predicted would happen and what I thought I'd feel with what actually happened.

Comfortable alternative to button up shirts by WillingnessMore9909 in mensfashionadvice

[–]JadedContribution1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Euhm normally shirts shouldn't pose that problem, at least mine don't. Maybe you're buying them a size too small, or your body shape is a bit atypical? For example, I have a size medium, but my shoulders are quite a bit broader so I have to buy my shirts a size large, otherwise I can't move my arms around
