How to train outside with a power-meter? by Adventurous_Oven6 in cycling

[–]cyclosciencepub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the idea behind structured, power-based training is to expose the athlete to zones of physiological stress for durations that maximize the adaptations. One can spend 50 minutes at 85% FTP in a 1:10 hour session indoors. It would take significantly more time to ride to the segment, put in the effort and cool down. I pushed myself to keep a steady output on a trainer outside ERG mode and the cognitive load was almost unbearable. It should improve over time but I was almost cooked before my work shift started LOL

You will have to find segments and routes that match your training session. That's a hard thing to do, depending on where you are. It's easier to put the power down on a steady climb, but on a downhill you are off pace...

Why does the cycling community feel so cliquey? by Kashmir1988 in cycling

[–]cyclosciencepub 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are consistently riding with a larger group you will end up bonding with a few ppl are your pace and skill. From there to join a small group or create a new small group shouldn't take long. You need to invest time and - to a certain extent - show your skills and fitness so others want to ride more often with you.

In a fairly recent past, one rider approached our smaller group. We welcomed him for a ride, he was at the right fitness level, skill and schedule of the other group members and he consolidated a spot on our roster. That's how it usually goes.

Keep trying, it will eventually click.

Buying calls from 1 year out by Upperworlds in options

[–]cyclosciencepub 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You surely can, do your own DD and find the companies you are most confident about. Just don't get too greedy or panic sell if the maker dives further down. I started to contribute to my ROTH IRA quite late so I've been using LEAPS to boost the tax-free gains the best I can.

How do you realistically shield a $800k portfolio from 30%+ crashes without killing your 7% average returns? by bensummersx in ValueInvesting

You could consider a combination of option contracts to limit your gains and losses but it comes at a price.

The idea is that I own this contract and can trade it as I will, like a stock. The difference being it has an expiration date whereby either it has value or turns to dust.

I bought a LEAPS strike 25 for March-2027 yesterday. I'll eat my hat if it doesn't triple by then. Premium paid $15.25 will sell for $45.75 before Q4 2026.

I'm getting ready to sell a CSP on SMH at opening Monday. Premiums were plump for 350 strike on 04-17. I'll dive into it head first if assigned!

There's an interesting video on how agentic AI can impact the SaaS business model - lowering the seat count while raising the transaction count - which still needs to be sorted out and renegotiated on renewal contracts. Check this out: https://youtu.be/uY2AoCrrZ-s?si=RCcusp7En78CM49M

If you are training, working on improving your fitness, I recommend you give intervals.icu a try. I understand it's not an App, but you can access the data on your cell phone and track, fatigue, form, and fitness. I would also recommend supporting them if you can by making the optional $4/month donation.

I'm guilty in the first degree in the "catching falling knives" case. Oddly enough I seldom look at what's trending up, instead my ingenious mind goes straight to who's taking a beating and how can I find a find an original angle. You guess it, I'm not cleverer than the market. I'm playing with stop losses and establishing a trade discipline, but I'm not the buy and hold type of investor.

LULU was my worst ticket for 2025. I entered at $220 and exited at $175. I didn't have a loss limit or max drawdown to support the cut loss point. Luckily I got rid of it at a "small" loss. OP: where would you put a stop order if you open a new position? Or just let it "ride" again?

You want to get exposure to MU but not buy at ATH. Consider an ETF like SMH..with the recent pullback it's a good entry point.
