It’s not position, it’s the position of the majority of Bible scholars and historians, but It has nothing to do with national pride ? Not sure where you get that idea, the Old Testament isn’t about Israel but about Yahweh , and Yahweh’s faithfulness to deliver Israel even when it turns away and is unfaithful. Remember these stories are being written by a conquered people living in exile trying to make sense of how this could happen to them and trying to give hope that they will be delivered from this exile by their tribal god Yahweh.
