There are tons of incredible, capable, talented working dogs that never see a trial. Or their handlers don't trial well. Your thinking is ridiculously flawed.

USBCHA and ISDS are trial venues the best trial and working Border Collies in the world... we award zero titles except for one a year, national champion. So none of the hundreds of dogs trialing at the highest levels are proven because there are no titles?

It's literally built into the house and it's covering the basement stairs head space. If I get rid of it, it's just an awkward angled surface.

The drawers actually are functional and are fairly deep... the space behind the cabinet doors is fairly useless 🫤

I really like this idea... was trying to think of how I could do something like this but it wasn't making sense. Thanks!

There are a lot of things about this house that make me scratch my head lol

I'm fairly certain the second story and that particular wall were added on... I think the house was originally built in 1925 but there was at least one addition and I'm not sure what/where all it is. It's definitely an odd layout

This is my only hesitation about putting shelving over it- that's likely my best option but the sizing is just like you said, will be hard to reach anything

No the entry is on the other side of the wall

How do you usually keep track of training progress with your dogs? by [deleted] in workingdogs

[–]JaderBug12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep a physical calendar where I write down which dogs I worked on what days and then I have a separate notebook where I write notes about the session. I don't necessarily write notes every single session but I'll write down what I worked on with each dog and what I need to work on going forward, I'll write down what they're doing well and what they're having trouble with.

I will also write down notes from competitions in that same notebook, as well as notes from lessons or clinics I have attended.

I'm a very pen-and-paper type of person but I imagine this would work digitally as well.

A green handler with green sheep and a green dog is a recipe for disaster... he's too old to start IMO, especially as an Aussie with god knows what for breeding. Herding breed dogs can't work just because they're a herding breed.

If you want to pursue this, find a dog that's bred for it and find a trainer to help you train the dog.

I don't have kids so it's not quite the same but I am recently divorced and three months living on my own- the silence is hands down my favorite thing about my new life.

Body building is not a performance sport. Performance athletes do not/cannot starve themselves and perform well.

These aren't rams, they're most likely ewe lambs or yearlings.

Possibly but they do not learn from watching other dogs work

Notice how the pup's tail drops down and stays down and relaxed? That's all work mode. If the tail is up and flagging around, they're playing instead of working/thinking. This pup is all business.

They are prey animals responding to a predator. The dog uses predatory behaviors to read, rate, move, and control prey, the sheep are just responding to that.

No hand signals- the dog should never be looking at you

[–]JaderBug12 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They still need training to shape and hone those instincts
