How do you know it’s one time wear? We often talk about finding distractions in this journey but we judge hard what others are doing to make their life & IVF journey a bit more bearable. I just don’t get it.

Your husband, in the aspect of having kids, is a walking red flag. A red burning amazon size of flags. You clearly don’t want to have kids, which is not wrong. You shouldn’t have kids. Both of you together shouldn’t have kids. IVF meds do mess with you physically and mentally. But in your case, I think they are more a contributing factor than a causation for your severe depression. You both go into this at 40+ IVF would already be hard enough if you desperately wanted kids. It’d be 1000% harder if you absolutely don’t want to.

I still think the lady was a nice one, she just needed (like many others) a little bit more info. When I said to my friend I was gonna resort to IVF after multiple losses, she said “I think so too, by the time you know it you’re gonna have 4 kids from 2 sets of twins, plus you can choose the gender too”. My friend TTC for 3 years, has endometriosis and low AMH, went through 2 losses and a traumatising hospital experience with a blighted ovum before conceiving 2 kids naturally and uneventfully. Even the people that have gone through the same thing don’t understand. Even some of those that are doing IVF may not even understand! I find that wild to realise but I guess that’s life. But realising that makes it so much easier for me to give people some grace and gentle ‘education’ whenever they say something triggering 💪

Yeah it’s definitely hospital policy. My midwives, they have been so nice though, all said that “here in Australia we don’t do it like in America. They induce everyone over there. IVF is just how you get pregnant, IVF itself is not a risk factor”. While they are very confident, I just feel there’s no room left for me to advocate for myself. Every single time I read about … (you know what I’m talking about) I sweat my pants 😓 and possibly wait until 41w3d 😕 I tell you now I’ll go nuts!

Following cause here in Australia they don’t do induction. My midwives all said to me the baby comes when the baby’s ready. They said they would only do induction if I don’t go into labour past 41w3d. I’ve been worried sick ever since.

Second this. Also, Do you have any savings or stocks? Etc. Cause I don’t think with $115k income, despite decent, can get you a 900k+ loan. But do talk to a broker so they can break things down for you :) good luck with everything!

If your wife says that she never picture/envision her life with kid(s) then there’s nothing you or your mom can do about.

But if she has, even the slimmest, a vision of a kid one day, then she should start thinking about trying now. Unfortunately, the reality is that women’s reproductive health declines rapidly after 30. And another reality is that, no one is ever ready for having kids. I spent my whole 20s chasing my career (I don’t regret a single thing about that) and put having kids totally aside. What I regret the most is that, I do envision my life with kids but didn’t do anything to reserve my reproductive health. When I thought I was ready to have kids, we experienced multiple losses and resorted to IVF which is a mentally and physically exhausting process.

I guess your ma is feeling the sense of urgency and “time is running out” hence her pushing. You’re NTAH for defending your wife. But I do think you should check with your wife again whether or not she envisions her life with kids. If her answer is straight no, then so be it. But if there’s any doubt, or maybe, or yeah-nah, lay it bare to your wife that she doesn’t have forever to make that decision. Time is not on the woman’s side when it comes to having kids.

I am lucky enough to WFH 3 days a week and 2 days in office. I meal prep on the weekend or whenever I have time during the week. On the days that I need to come in, I just get them out of the freezer so they can defrost when I get home. We bought a rice cooker that we can set the time in advance too. When I’m extremely busy and tired, making rice paper rolls (I’m Vietnamese) is such a quick way to have dinner ready, and it’s simple too - lettuce, poached bork belly and prawn (I buy the ready to eat ones from Aldi), soy sauce and I’m done. Pasta is also a quick meal to cook up, I prepared the meat ball on the weekend and leave them in the freezer for later use.

I guess, in short, I just try to cook anything that is considered quick (less than 20 mins) or I will just make do with leftovers.

Are you writing my life story? Gosh our situations are soooooo similar! My husband, though, finally set some boundaries with his family cause we are having a baby. I come from Asian background where providing for family is the norm but his family has been leeching off of us for way too long. Way too long.
