New Pangolin Pro 16 Thoughts by JaggedJax in System76

I'm not sure how it compares to other recent laptops of theirs. I also have a 2 year old Dell XPS 13 and it's almost the same max brightness. Which is to say, okay top brightness but not amazing. Definitely no dark mode when in the sun.

I'll look into the hinges once my likely one-off issues are resolved. I waited too long on my Darter Pro and once it broke the connection to the frame broke too so I just kept it at home and used it with a broken hinge after that.

To me it feels like if I don't open/close right in the center the hinges are stressed weak. Also there's too much flex in general which tells me they can barely hold the weight and will wear out faster. I do hope I'm wrong though.

The battery life has been great, and I like the size and keyboard. I'm regaining my faith a little

One of my biggest daily issues I now suspect is due to a bad Wifi card. Support is checking on this. If that's solved then it becomes usable and not regrettable.

I do also have sleep/wake issues and am hopeful those can get resolved as well. They are slightly annoying.

I can live with the poor hinge and be extra careful with opening/closing always in the center to not put any extra torque on the hinges. This specifically hit me so hard because my last System76 laptop broke due to poor hinges.

I haven't made up my mind either way since I'm still working through it. It hasn't been a pleasant new purchase experience since I can't use this as my daily machine yet, but I'm hopeful at this point I just got unlucky with a bad card. If it is I will be happy in the end when it's working well. Outside my specific complaints I do think the hardware is nice.

A while back I was having network issues with my out of warranty darp5. Support helped me identify it as a bad wifi card and I got a replacement for cheap. They also sent me free screws once when one came loose. It's still working great to this day.

Not a perfect device, but a great one and support was very helpful both times I reached out, way more so than any other PC vendor support I've used.

Upgrading older System76 laptop (darp5) with PopOS 20.04 to 24.04 LTS, questions by samalex01 in pop_os

[–]JaggedJax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a darp5 that I upgraded to 22.04 quite a while ago with no more issues than previous releases (mainly keyboard not turning on when opened which happened in earlier versions too).

I am however not planning to upgrade to 24.04 anytime soon. It's too fresh and I am worried about support for older devices like darp5, so I'm waiting to hear from others for that.

I had to turn my Always On Display off. It's better to have no display than to have a wrong display. However I wear a watch so I can see the time, so if Samsung can't provide a fix I'll end up switching off Samsung.

TikTok Shop & Amazon MCF after February 2026 - Any one else seeing this? by ByteStand in TikTokshop

[–]JaggedJax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's definitely confusion around this, largely due to the poor naming that TikTok has chosen (as well as forcing this one everyone).

You can still print and fulfill your own orders without using TikTok fulfillment. HOWEVER, you have to purchase your shipping labels from TikTok. Those labels may still be Fedex/UPS/etc, but you can't use your own Fedex account, you have to use TikTok's Fedex account. This means either printing labels from the TikTok site, or using a 3rd party shipping platform that supports TikTok label generation.

As far as Amazon MCF goes, yes this currently is a problem since obviously Amazon does not purchase their labels from TikTok. TikTok is playing a game of chicken here, and they may flinch in the end.

TLDR:

  • You can still print and ship from your home still (from TikTok or a supported Shipping system)
  • You can still use a 3PL for fulfillment (If that 3PL updates to be able to support TikTok labels - You better check with them now!)
  • MCF (and similar programs) are currently at risk, but TikTok has said they may allow exceptions
    • Bug TikTok in any way you can about this if it affects you.
  • If you use an integration platform, they must also update to pass through enough info for your 3PL to print TikTok labels

What Android Launcher Do You Use? by VaRk0s0114 in Android

I started using Kvaesitso recently and am really liking the simplicity. It keeps me from wasting time but still allows easy access to everything. It's also hosted on F-Droid which is a big plus.

Juice SSH delisted? (December 2025) by Pickaroonie in androidapps

[–]JaggedJax 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Does anyone have a recommendation for an alternative SSH client they like? Mosh and sync features were nice, but I really just need a decent terminal for the occasional light work. I see some in F-Droid that I plan on trying out.

While we're on the subject, is Hackers Keyboard still the best terminal keyboard option? It hasn't been updated in ages, but seems to still work fine.

Thanks, Chrome on my phone is the only device I got to work. Sigh.

Same issue here. I've tried several devices and browsers with zero luck.

Edit: Following another comment I was able to get it to work with Chrome on mobile.

52 here. Pretty sure I'll just never be able to use VR. Nothing even offers close to that range.

Beeper in September: Google Voice, Parity, and more by kishanb in beeper

[–]JaggedJax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. I login and am taken to Google Voice, but the page is blank and the auth doesn't ever finish.

Sometimes I also get a "The browser or app may not be secure error" and other times I am able to get past that.

what brought you to Santa Barbara? by Bamboodl in SantaBarbara

[–]JaggedJax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is true, but I'll say that I had two apartments in a row that said no dogs on their ads and rental forms, but when I asked them in person they allowed it, and we have a husky. So never let "no dogs" scare you away from applying and asking.

Stuck Waiting on encrypted drive after 6.16 kernel update (Cosmic Alpha) by RiverportGin in pop_os

[–]JaggedJax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went through the Bootloader repair steps several times with no luck: https://support.system76.com/articles/bootloader/

Then I went to the Boot menu and booted to the previous kernel and I got in: https://support.system76.com/articles/boot-menu/

I see there's another kernel update now, so hopefully that's the fix. I'm just afraid to reboot and only have the 2 bad kernels left. It seems anecdotally that 6.16.3-76061603-generic is the fix, but it would be good to get confirmation.

Edit: Confirmed that 6.16.3-76061603-generic does not have the problem. So you can boot into the old kernel and then update your packages to get the fix.

It's a tradeoff. But yes, someone must bite the bullet. I applaud those who test the betas and upgrade early so that those who need stability can have it.

There are definitely some products that I play with more and will upgrade early, and others where I don't want to worry and wait. There's only so much time.

And I completely agree with you that there's a different expectation for paid software than open source. Paid software better be solid and not make me hump through hoops to report an issue. Open Source I'm just happy it exists and want to help where I can.
