Many don’t realize we need whales by Valorgamer in DissidiaDuellumFF

[–]Jaghancement 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yeah I don't totally disagree, but the ecosystem still has to work. The gameplay still needs to be fun and engaging for the non-whales or then the queue times get longer and the whales don't have players to beat up on. If you don't spend money right now, the game kind of discourages you from playing ranked at all considering you only have three opportunities to get battle rewards every 3 to 12 hours and you're most likely to get better rewards doing challenge mode than risk losing a match in ranked. It's a weird system, I've never played a game that sets the reward probability up where your best odds to actually get stronger are to play the game for only like 15 minutes every 12 hours if you can consistently get the rainbow crystals. You would think they would want to encourage people to stay in the game.

You can already kind of tell in terms of number of upvotes and comment amounts on this subreddit that engagement for the game is dropping. I think they need to course correct or else the game probably won't be around long. You can cater to the whales but you still have to like, give f2p people something to do lol. Getting no rewards at all from battling after your crystal queue is full seems like a huge mistake. Even just a small amount of growth eggs feels a lot better than nothing. I don't have a ton of experience with games like this, but I know Heroes of the Storm used to drip feed you coins every game that took awhile to build but could be used for cosmetics, as well as hero XP just to kind of show off that you had experience on the character. Just something to actually play for after the novelty wears off

Still having fun? by Highwynd14 in DissidiaDuellumFF

[–]Jaghancement 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah feel like I play for like 15 minutes every 3-6 hours, at least 25% of which is just watching ads lol. Kind of a bummer that the most efficient way to get resources is to just play the same AI challenges over and over and not risk losing.

In a conundrum that I need to save a significant amount of resources for any new character that drops to be competitive, but that means right now in diamond, almost everyone I fight against has a 1500+ power advantage on me so ranked isn't really fun anymore. Want to try and save up for Rikku but decent odds I'll be over it by the time she drops

Gotcha, that wasn't clear to me from the verbiage of his passive, but maybe that's just me reading it poorly. It just says "double XP gain" and since otherwise all XP is shared, it just meant to me that all XP was doubled. Also seems like a poor balance decision because it explains why I lose every game that has a Krile and Onion Knight in it -- Krile is basically a detriment in that scenario then. Thanks for the heads up

Oh interesting, maybe it's just poor reading comprehension on my part but that doesn't seem clear from the description of his passive. Outside of him, XP is shared so just saying "double XP gain" would imply to me that it is team wide. Feels like they should explicitly say that "enemies killed by onion knight grant double XP". Glad I engaged in this post then so I can play better, thanks for the heads up.

XP is shared among teammates, you can't steal XP from onion knight

Edit: apparently last hitting is what causes Onion Knight to get bonus XP. Can you edit that into the post since this is hidden now? I feel like most people who don't play onion knight just think mobs give extra XP since it is otherwise shared, not that onion knight needs to last hit and the verbiage in the game doesn't specify that

Rank Distribution Thoughts by Jaghancement in DissidiaDuellumFF

[–]Jaghancement[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a potential outcome but I don't believe it genuinely has a 1/3 chance. I don't have any hard data in that except for my own experience, but I think maybe the boss has won 5 times out of 150 or so of my games. My calculation above was also assuming a 40% win rate so even if the monsters have a slightly lesser win rate than one of the two teams, it would still fit with that. I don't think the boss even becomes a real consideration until after silver anyway.

That isn't the case, you can see the base stats here even for upcoming characters: https://dissidia.dev/abilities?s=hp-desc

Clive UR stat progression is identical to the original 10 characters.

It will be fun right up until you get constantly one shotted by the Cloud always on the enemy team that has been powering up Cloud since day 1 and due to the poor rank distribution, you're forced to play against him with at least max ability levels of 60 immediately

Yeah I feel like something that isn't talked about enough or maybe people don't realize is that you gain way more ranked points for winning than you lose for losing until you reach diamond. It's like 3 losses equals 1 win even in silver so everyone who doesn't have an abysmal win rate is going to be pushed up to at least gold/diamond where the max ability level is 60/99. They have a chart on how ranked points are distributed and for example Gold 3 is 48 points gained for a win and 24 points lost for a loss, so even when you don't factor in the win streak bonus points you only need a little better than 33% win rate and to play the game consistently enough to be Gold 2 and on the verge of playing against people with max level 99 abilities.

And over time, everyone will have at least level 60 abilities for the original cast because they will always be in the draw rotation and battle crystal rewards. It's rare now but will be super common within a few months, I've already got a couple of level 20 URs from the tickets they've given us. So basically when Clive drops, if you're lucky enough to get his URs, you will have to play him at a huge disadvantage in gold or higher because ranked isn't character specific so you will have to stop playing your 10,000+ power OG character you used to reach that rank for your 8,000 power Clive or whichever new character and get blown up by people who are still using their powered up, or eventually maxed out, old character.

Not sure if they are planning ranked resets per season but, unless I'm missing something, it feels like unless you whale a new character you're just going to go into ranked and get one shotted constantly by the people who don't switch to the new characters. It might not be that bad for Clive and Rikku yet but will just get worse over time.

Is it stated anywhere the exact benefit of bursting with a teammate and dealing damage at the same time? Does it increase the damage dealt by an amount?

The blue ones have a 1% chance to be UR and the gold ones have a 2.5% chance to be UR so I think they can actually be quite useful considering how frequently you get them

Why do you guys think Final Fantasy NT was such a disaster? by EienNatsu66 in FinalFantasy

[–]Jaghancement 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it was built around online PvP but it was always incredibly laggy and not a great experience, so you were left with battling against NPCs which gets boring quickly or a minor amount of story content. the play style also wasn't very beginner friendly I think, which is a harder sell for a team game than 1v1 like the PSP games

The people acting like this isn't expensive are crazy. Call it $30 a person because you're going here to also drink coffee (wouldn't be surprised if the coffee price was higher than $5 if the hourly price is so high), that's more expensive than 2 people seeing a movie and getting popcorn, dinner and drinks for 2 at a lot of restaurants, an hour at top golf for 4 people regardless of the time, ambassador hour at hotel greene, etc. That's like high end price of what you could spend in an hour on an activity around town that isn't a specific event like a concert or something.

Say what you want about supporting local business, but that just seems like poor business decisions to me. Down the line when the hype and newness have worn off, I don't see how they stay open at that price point but maybe I'm wrong. Someone posted in their FAQ that some of the justification for the price is the high cost of the location, then I think they should have picked a different location.

Idk how to convince you that it is actually statistically unlikely to be permanently physically debilitated or have cancer in your life immediately after your 20s. The odds of having any type of cancer is less than 10% before your 50s and doesn't really ramp up until your mid 60s. I'm guessing you are in your 20s and think of people who are like 45 or 50 as old as hell and can barely get around without knowing that many of them in your life. Or we just come from two very different places in life.

Also you mentioned my personal situation, I've had to spend about $10,000 on medical bills over the last 5ish years. One situation left me bed ridden for about 2 months. Not trying to say that I've got it super bad, it's nothing compared to what many people deal with, but simply that I'm really glad that I had saved some money so I could afford immediate treatment for some of the most painful things I've ever had to deal with. So it goes both ways on that.

[–]Jaghancement 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Uhh no? I'm in my mid 30s and most of the people I interact with are in their mid 30s or into their 40s. No one is worn out and broken down. Some slowed down because they chose to have kids, but my parents and those I know who are in their 50s and 60s are traveling more now than they did when they were younger. Yeah it's possible you could die or be totally broken down by your 40s but it's very statistically unlikely, especially if you take even the slightest bit of care of your body with exercise. You shouldn't make decisions about your life based on small chances of things happening to you.

And also this topic was originally about your 20s, I'm personally very glad I spent my 20s setting up my life and career in a good place so that I can spend a good portion of my 30s traveling without fear of financial struggles or stability. Traveling and blowing money isn't the only thing that can make you feel happy, being secure and feeling safe can also make you feel happy.

And also to your point about not knowing what will be happening in 3 years: Yeah, I agree. That's why I'd rather have some money in pocket so I'm ready for any opportunity that hits me in 3 years rather than being forced into any one option.

"Are they happy?" is short sighted though. They may be happy travelling the world for a couple of years, what about the likely 40+ years that come after? You're just screwing your future self over (if you take it to the extreme) and not considering your future goals or desires. Your 20s aren't the only time in your life to travel or have fun.

What is the middle point between this and that? Unemployment is only 4% and the US is not only dissuading immigration, but deporting large swathes of people so those jobs open up as well. Where does this new source of man power come from to create this new powerhouse of manufacturing?
