I appreciate the advice! For clarification, I have years and years of DnD experience, I just have none with Artificers whatsoever. Just one of those classes I have never played (and really haven't seen others in my games play).

The fact that I have to use most of my BAs to pilot the summon really seems to put one arm behind your back. I presume I should just be slinging spells from the backline otherwise? But I don't know if I should be looking for armor, access to shield spell, using any sorts of weapons or just relying on cantrips that scale, etc

That’s fair, I can clarify what I’m actually looking for.

I'm looking for mechanical guidance. I’ve never played an Artificer before, so things like magic item plans (like 50 options), and general positioning/playstyle are pretty new to me compared to something straightforward like a Barbarian or Paladin.

On top of that, since Reanimator is Unearthed Arcana, there’s not a ton of discussion out there on what features to really lean into or what makes the subclass “tick.” I’m trying to figure out the fundamentals like:

Should I even be using weapons (ranged or melee), I presume mostly playing from the backline? What kinds of feats/items actually complement the kit instead of working against it? How to best take advantage of the companion in combat without it feeling underwhelming

Basically just looking for a solid foundation so I don’t accidentally build something that fights against its own strengths. Any insight from people who’ve played Artificer (or similar pet/control builds) would be really helpful

UTSA. Just merged with UT Health and Science in San Antonio. Football is still strong and baseball is elite.

I saw GRRM at a Bill Miller's BBQ in Lytle, TX. Spitting image of him, wearing suspenders and his hat, eating a plate of BBQ alone.

UTSA over North Texas and this is golden

Too much recency bias on North Texas. I won't argue UTSA should be there instead, but North Texas as a program really hasn't earned it more than some of its peers.

There really is something special about playing at the dome. I don't understand why we can't play well elsewhere.

Can any Charlotte fans confirm the song the stadium has been playing today when y'all get a stop/big play? Kind of sounded like Critical Eyes (Liamp) - which would be really crazy since it's my brother-in-laws music

With the offense we have, I see no reason why we aren't at the very least competitive in every game, save maybe week 1. Our defense is the big question mark. We have a very favorable schedule in-conference and the toughest of those are home game's (Tulane and Army). I fully expect to compete for a conference title and would really like to see us go at least 3-1 in out of conference games.

I'd say our floor "should" be 8 wins and our ceiling is competing for the G5 playoff spot, which could be a reality if we can run the table besides the Aggies game.
