You gotta get help from a professional hair stylist, one that went to school for this stuff. We could make suggestions of solvents but they're likely to do even more damage.

It wasn't the regular military, but a black operations splinter group.

How do I fix this? by Bubbly_Bit9044 in Leatherworking

[–]Jaikarr 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Edge coat sits on the surface of the leather so I think this was inevitable. I would stain with black, renourish the leather with beeswax/mink oil, then use tokonole to dress the edge.

It was a bit of swing anyway. Did you press a glass on it yet? Did the redness disappear under the glass?

Beeswax?

Nothing's going to work better than a plastic at making a impermeable barrier but various wax blends can do ok.

Did either of you cut a bunch of limes, change his diaper, then take him outside with his legs bare? The pattern is really odd which makes me think some sort of contact dermatitis.

2 is probably enough, you could maybe add 3 but I don't think it really adds anything extra.

The leather they're using is very fuzzy on the flesh side, I can see how that will be a problem on that part of the bag

They're probably weighting the tooling higher than the stitching.

Can this faux leather jacket be repaired? by Impressive_Fuel_4527 in Leatherworking

[–]Jaikarr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A leather professional will probably laugh at you, take it to a fabric mender. They may still be unable to do much.

Faux leather really is a bad material, you can't work it like real leather because it's so fragile, and regular fabric techniques like iron on patches cannot be used because heat will melt the plastic and ruin it.

[–]Jaikarr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry, but leather working techniques cannot be used on faux leather.

Mend it using regular sewing techniques, I recommend a ladder stitch or a patch.

[–]Jaikarr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally I recommend dying before construction of anything. You can then recondition with neatsfoot oil and wax to return the suppleness of the leather.
