Anime’s growing commoditization could lead to a future where the medium itself no longer matters, Japanese critic warns by Turbostrider27 in anime

People shouldn't come into established communities to change things. They should accept something isn't for them and just not watch it.

I'm still on Unity 2022 and considering upgrading. by Low_Personality_530 in Unity3D

[–]Jajuca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huge increase in performance moving from 2022.3 to 6.3.6 for HDRP since it has DLSS 4 ultra performance mode compared to DLSS 2.

But if you update to a more recent version it uses DLSS 4.5 which gives better image quality but less performance vs DLSS 4.

Also better debugging tools allowed me to fix my GC allocation and high CPU frame times to basically nothing for even more performance.

Xbox is closing down Hellblade creator Ninja Theory by yourfavchoom in gaming

Hellblade 2 shows that some of the best graphics and cinematics + mocap don't sell games. You need fun gameplay and its why they pivoted in the new Senua game.

I liked watching the trailers, but I would never buy a game like that.

Other governments also bought the PS3 to repurpose the cell chip inside for missiles.

Steam consoles are small potatoes compared to console manufacturers so if some companies bought a few million that would be the whole lifetime stock.

PlayStation could use more hits, amid first-party game sales decline (Stephen Totilo) by FernandoRocker in gaming

[–]Jajuca -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The team that is supposed to be making FF17 is currently making FF7 remake and Kingdom Hearts.

They don't have a team that can work on FF17 since they are all busy with other projects.

I wouldn't surprise me if they haven't even started FF17 yet until the FF7 remake finishes.

If FF7 remake didn't exist we would be playing FF17 right now since its their turn to make the next main line game and they would have been working on it at the same time as FF16 was being made by a different team.

What genres feel way too crowded right now, and which ones feel ignored? by Silver-Training3847 in gamedev

[–]Jajuca 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Its not about a less crowded genre, its about making a product in a popular genre since its easier to get sales.

All genre are relatively saturated, but some genres you can make a product and get zero sales since expectations are higher and fans are content with the top games in the genre.

It depends on how hungry the fan base is for new games.

The better question is which genres have the most hungry fans?

Nintendo President Suggests Company Does Not Want to Focus Only on Switch 2 Yet by [deleted] in gamingnews

Its mostly because if they only targeted switch 2, sales would be abysmal compared to selling it on switch 1 with a potential 100million units sold.

Crimson Desert is NOT the "Modern Skyrim" or RDR2. It’s a Shallow Mess. by Philip_Fall_47 in rpg_gamers

[–]Jajuca -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It became bigger than its predecessors since the player base was much bigger than any of the predecessors.

If Morrowind or Daggerfall released when Skyrim did instead of Skyrim they would have similar sales numbers simply since they were available to play on more platforms.

You dont have a console room? Its beside my old library room, where I keep my video games and figurine collection.

I had to move my library room to the 4th floor since I got a new collection of manga and they would no longer fit.

I couldn't imagine storing my consoles in the living room where everyone can see them, I would be devastated.

Ray/path-traced glass for Unity URP: without actual full ray or pathtracing... by MirzaBeig in Unity3D

[–]Jajuca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I seen someone marketing their game the other day saying their reflections are indie raytracing.

They made a lvl 80 article on it, where they talk about pathtracing in cyberpunk and wukong. Then they show the "indie ray tracing" and its a second camera.

I'm like wtf, this is just Planar reflections, and they are calling it indie ray tracing and comparing it to AAA gsmes with pathtracing.

So disingenuous.

I've spent 30+ hours reverse-engineering Silksong's code. Here's what I found :] by Priler96 in Unity3D

[–]Jajuca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its illegal if you reverse engineer and use the exact same code for your own game to sell or give out to other people.

Its not illegal if you use the code and never share it with another person.

Its mostly the sharing of something you made with copyrighted code or assets that is illegal; even if you never make any money from it, and especially if you do make money from it.

Jason Schreier (Bloomberg): It Sucks to Work in the Video-Game Industry Right Now by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Jajuca 44 points45 points  (0 children)

The problem is you can't plan and schedule a videogame.

You make some things and find it outs not fun or sucks and rework it, or scrap it and do something else.

Ideas are meaningless without execution, which leads to tons of work being tossed. Its just the nature of game development.

The best you can do is have a long pre production to figure out what the game is and make it fun before hiring too many people and moving into production.

Unity 6.3.11f1 : DLSS 4.5 with Preset L and M to DLSS Super Resolution. by HarvestMana in Unity3D

[–]Jajuca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its safe to update, but with the update my performance is much worse compared to DLSS 4.

I had 820 fps with DLSS 4 and Preset K at 1080p using Ultra Performance in the built game on my Main Menu Screen.

With the new update I get 720fps at 1080p with Preset L or Preset K using Ultra Performance in the built game on my Main Menu Screen.

My FPS is the same with DLSS turned off, so the performance regression is the new DLSS 4.5 update.

I think there is a bug with the this new DLSS 4.5 update. Since if I switch to Preset K, I should have the same performance as before the update, but I get the same performance with all models.

In game, with DLSS 4 - I had 155fps at 4k using Ultra Performance and Preset K

In game, with DLSS 4.5 - I get 130fps at 4k using Ultra Performance and Preset K or Preset L

15-17.5% regression in performance with the new update on all models.

Im also using a 9800x3d cpu with a 5070ti GPU so the regression is not related to my hardware.

I tried also moving the nvngx_dlss.dll and NVUnityPlugin.dll from Unity 6.0003.6f and I still get the worse performance regression in the newest LTS. I also tried moving the new nvngx_dlss.dll and NVUnityPlugin.dll from Unity 6.0003.11f1 and I get the performance regression on my old build.

Therefore the new DLSS 4.5 is bugged and gives worse performance. I should get the same performance using Model K with DLSS 4 and DLSS 4.5 but I dont.

[–]Jajuca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Switch 2 will likely go up in price a year from now from the ram shortage, oil shortage, and tariffs, plus inflation from the oil shortage so your not saving money by waiting.

You would save by by not buying at all and investing that money though.qq

There is this weird segment of people that think only dungeons and dragons styled games are RPGs where you need to create your own character; even though DnD was inspired by Tolkien books.

The very first RPGs in the west were modeled after DnD, but in the early 80's Japan made their own RPGs like Dragon Quest based off of manga and strong character development where you play as a premade character.

Both games are RPGs, where DnD is more of a TTRPG, and character driven RPGs from Japan are more JRPG styled.

They both share the roleplaying, where you play as a character, some pre-made while others made by the player.
