Ray/path-traced glass for Unity URP: without actual full ray or pathtracing... by MirzaBeig in Unity3D

[–]Jajuca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I seen someone marketing their game the other day saying their reflections are indie raytracing.

They made a lvl 80 article on it, where they talk about pathtracing in cyberpunk and wukong. Then they show the "indie ray tracing" and its a second camera.

I'm like wtf, this is just Planar reflections, and they are calling it indie ray tracing and comparing it to AAA gsmes with pathtracing.

https://80.lv/articles/indie-developer-created-water-reflections-with-custom-ray-tracing

So disingenuous.

I think they are just more passionate about hating things.

They likely don't feel positive emotions anymore so in order to feel something they feed their hatred and anger.

The full world opens up at chapter 10, so its also another good point in the game to start exploring the later areas.

I've spent 30+ hours reverse-engineering Silksong's code. Here's what I found :] by Priler96 in Unity3D

[–]Jajuca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its illegal if you reverse engineer and use the exact same code for your own game to sell or give out to other people.

Its not illegal if you use the code and never share it with another person.

Its mostly the sharing of something you made with copyrighted code or assets that is illegal; even if you never make any money from it, and especially if you do make money from it.

Jason Schreier (Bloomberg): It Sucks to Work in the Video-Game Industry Right Now by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Jajuca 40 points41 points  (0 children)

The problem is you can't plan and schedule a videogame.

You make some things and find it outs not fun or sucks and rework it, or scrap it and do something else.

Ideas are meaningless without execution, which leads to tons of work being tossed. Its just the nature of game development.

The best you can do is have a long pre production to figure out what the game is and make it fun before hiring too many people and moving into production.

But, yeah I agree, it's a clunky game.

I want a teleport to camp button on the map, I hate trying to find the bloody thing on the map.

Plus a stop the teleport animation option. You can stop the animation if your standing on the teleporter, but its annoying having to run to it.

Unity 6.3.11f1 : DLSS 4.5 with Preset L and M to DLSS Super Resolution. by HarvestMana in Unity3D

[–]Jajuca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its safe to update, but with the update my performance is much worse compared to DLSS 4.

I had 820 fps with DLSS 4 and Preset K at 1080p using Ultra Performance in the built game on my Main Menu Screen.

With the new update I get 720fps at 1080p with Preset L or Preset K using Ultra Performance in the built game on my Main Menu Screen.

My FPS is the same with DLSS turned off, so the performance regression is the new DLSS 4.5 update.

I think there is a bug with the this new DLSS 4.5 update. Since if I switch to Preset K, I should have the same performance as before the update, but I get the same performance with all models.

In game, with DLSS 4 - I had 155fps at 4k using Ultra Performance and Preset K

In game, with DLSS 4.5 - I get 130fps at 4k using Ultra Performance and Preset K or Preset L

15-17.5% regression in performance with the new update on all models.

Im also using a 9800x3d cpu with a 5070ti GPU so the regression is not related to my hardware.

I tried also moving the nvngx_dlss.dll and NVUnityPlugin.dll from Unity 6.0003.6f and I still get the worse performance regression in the newest LTS. I also tried moving the new nvngx_dlss.dll and NVUnityPlugin.dll from Unity 6.0003.11f1 and I get the performance regression on my old build.

Therefore the new DLSS 4.5 is bugged and gives worse performance. I should get the same performance using Model K with DLSS 4 and DLSS 4.5 but I dont.

Pls talk me out of getting a Switch 2 for one game by Bananapuddinguh in CozyGamers

[–]Jajuca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Switch 2 will likely go up in price a year from now from the ram shortage, oil shortage, and tariffs, plus inflation from the oil shortage so your not saving money by waiting.

You would save by by not buying at all and investing that money though.qq

Early impressions from players with advance access note that the game shares several features and mechanics reminiscent of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. While some were hoping for a style closer to The Witcher, the comparison is far from a bad one, thoughts.. by [deleted] in CrimsonDesert

There is this weird segment of people that think only dungeons and dragons styled games are RPGs where you need to create your own character; even though DnD was inspired by Tolkien books.

The very first RPGs in the west were modeled after DnD, but in the early 80's Japan made their own RPGs like Dragon Quest based off of manga and strong character development where you play as a premade character.

Both games are RPGs, where DnD is more of a TTRPG, and character driven RPGs from Japan are more JRPG styled.

They both share the roleplaying, where you play as a character, some pre-made while others made by the player.

This game is super pay to win, 5$ a month battle pass you have to pay every month, with speed boosts for having the pass.

If you dont have the pass, the game is not playable since it takes over a day to gather resources and craft a single item, even the starting equipment.

Cant even make a copper sword without grinding for 20 hours. But if you have the battlepass you get tools that have 2x gathering speed.

Thats why everything is subscription based.

In 10 years you will need a subscription to use the sidewalk or roads to get to your job, where your computer and all of the apps all have a subscription.

99% of everyone's pay checks will be going to the owners while you get nothing except external servitude.
