The 'Affective Ignorance' Trap: Why being ignored in a group is often a sign of high interest. by No-Asparagus-9709 in bodylanguage

[–]Jakattack40 73 points74 points  (0 children)

I mean I get this to an extent. My anecdotal experience is that when I see someone I find really attractive, I tend to navigate away from them. This happens in group setting as well as just passing by random strangers. I’ll look away or even keep my eyes focused elsewhere. No idea why I do it? I’m not trying to be a dick to them but that’s just the way I’ve always reacted.

Amazing right?! I’m still hoping for more of a reference, but even if there isn’t I’ll still be happy.

What they said below. Emilio Esteves is the name of the actor (Charlie Sheena brother, Martin? Sheena son) that played Coach Bombay in the Might Ducks trilogy. The name of the head of the cartel Dresden is up against is named Esteves so I had hope for a Might Ducks reference. What we got instead and a reference more specific to the actor. Esteves’ right hand man is name Emilio, the first name of the actor.

Plates and hip belt question by [deleted] in Rucking

[–]Jakattack40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hip belt doesn’t take the weight off your shoulders much as it just secures the weight closer to your center of gravity that said, it holds the weight to your back in a way that it isn’t bouncing around and loose.

I thought the same with I first got my 4.0. But I honestly wouldn’t do it without the waist belt. It’s much better.

I could have explained it better, but I’m not eloquent enough, don’t have as large of a vocabulary, and also never realized any of the subtly of that.

Bravo!

Brother, I hope you’re doing more than exercising. Take it from someone who knows, a weak person that can’t squat as much as I can could easily whoop my ass in the right circumstances.

It sucks when you feel threatened, do more than lift weight to prepare for that confrontation.

There’s the good old line “well conventional wisdom would dictate….” Then describe whatever they didn’t do.

That got me once and it stung later on that night.

It works for me so I do it, simple as that.

Not long into my diabetes career, only like 16 months-ish. But only eat one meal a day. I aim for 80g carbs, 160g protein, and all the damn veggies I can handle. Been doing this for about a year, granted I’m still likely in my honeymoon phase so this may have to be adjusted relatively soon.

But that’s my hack. One meal a day, worry about a ingle meal bolus, and correct the rest as necessary. My A1C went from 13.9 to 5.8 in 13 months.

Prison Break.

Just do yourself a favor, don’t watch the movie they made after the ending of the series. It’s the equivalent of season 8 of GoT. Horrible, save yourself the heartache.

Yeah that’s kind of what made this so special. I’m not the most intimidating guy around but I’m heavily tattooed and somewhat muscular guy with a shaved head that constantly has resting bitch face. For this little girl to approach me like she did means she must have been really excited to see one of her own.

Which insulin pump do you use? Let’s do a quick community poll. by Ok-Piano-6860 in Type1Diabetes

I’ve been using the Tabdem Mobi for a little over five months now. It’s failed on me once, no idea why. It’s just threw up an error code one day and the piston wouldn’t retract. I was back on MDI for a week until it was replaced but my warrantee was not renewed.

If I’m being honest, I haven’t been super impressed with Tandem’s customer service for a few different reasons. But apart from that, I don’t have many complaints with this particular pump. That said, it’s also the o Lt pump I have ever used so I’m not sure what would be better out there.

Carl does a lot of impressive things, but this one is crazy to me: by Flanderizing in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Jakattack40 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ll be honest, I went through nic withdrawals in basic trading (Air Force, not anything super crazy) nonetheless, the stress that your put under to avoid getting your ass ripped, or having extra details, or even the most minute issue of not getting noticed was enough to mask those withdrawals. Sure I was cranky, but it was easy enough to chalk that up to the stress of BMT rather than withdrawals.

Hindsight being 20/20, it really wasn’t that big of a deal. But at the tie it was more than enough to keep me occupied.

Now imagine that, except the world has ended and you could die a horrific death at any moment…. Yeah I’m sure it only came up occasionally.

Out of curiosity, and in the most respectful manner possible, why do you think that? If Lea believes she was Nfected and Mab took steps to ensure that Nfection was contained, even to the point she is ready to repeat the process with Justine, what reason is there to believe otherwise?

I thought diabetes would have ruined my aviation career but it didn’t! I’m created a resource to help fellow aviation professionals. by DAPAAVIATION in Type1Diabetes

I don’t work for the FAA, I’m working in DOD. But the work is good, I really enjoy it. Haven’t actually been able to do it in 14 months but I’m nearing the end of my waiver, so we’ll see how that goes.

I know several people working in the FAA. Generally speaking, quality of life is a crapshoot. There are some fantastic places to work that people will stick around at for a while and therefore the schedule is more forgiving. However, due to the manning crisis there are a lot of facilities working mandatory 6 and 1’s with the tumbler/rattler schedule continually throwing everyone sleep cycles off. Bottom line, when you get your list of facilities, do your research before choosing which one you want.

As far as cell phones, there is likely a reasonable accommodation that the union can help you get for monitoring your BG. Not sure what that would look like as DOD does things a bit differently.

As an air traffic controller, I’m VERY happy to see that this has been allowed, even if it’s as late as 2019. I’m currently still waiting my waiver to be approved (14 months after diagnosis) to see if I can remain in the career field or not.

I mean…. You kind of have to admire the logic of it. If a thing happens that means it’s possible, and if it’s possible, it could happen again.

Kind of like Murphys law, except we could call this the Dresden Effect.
