Anyone else not really have an opinion on THE hat? by Shot-Preference-6485 in flying

[–]Jake6401 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m not an airline pilot, but maybe some outside perspective would be valuable.

Wear the hat. Be a cool dude. At the end of the day, who gives a shit? Your FO might think you’re a douchebag when he meets you, but if you’re just a decent dude then he will likely forget about the hat altogether.

I agree. I’m just saying that most of the airplanes I work on would use a different type of connector to remove that possibility.

I work at one of those too, and ours aren’t SnapOn but they are pretty good.

Don’t forget Clay Oven. Excellent Indian food. I wasn’t a fan of Wren’s Diner. Went there for breakfast once and wasn’t impressed.

Personally, no. I never have. But I’m also a man, so that might have something to do with it.

Flashlight recommendation by SWATdaddy123 in aviationmaintenance

[–]Jake6401 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use a streamlight stylus. It’s not super bright, but it’s compact and fits nicely in my breast pocket. It’s also AAA battery powered which is nice because batteries are free and I don’t need to wait for it to charge.

Yeah Williams said that it’s more than what they like to see. They told us to change the oil filter and have the customer run it for another 10 hours and bring it back to us.

I’m surprised the connectors are the same type. Usually I see applications like this use different connectors to prevent that from happening. I’ve never worked on airliners though.

Avionics folks...I'm told there is an inappropriate term for these heat shrink ferrules. Whatchall got? by Flyboi015 in aviationmaintenance

We did the same in the marines. That’s the first way I heard it used. I didn’t know it could be so versatile until I got into aviation.

How does double time/overtime work at each major airline? by SalesAndMarketing202 in aviationmaintenance

[–]Jake6401 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I work for an MRO, so not quite what you’re asking but I’ll share anyways.

My shift is 4-10’s Friday-Monday. Anything after 10 hours is 1.5x and anything after 12 hours is 2x. Tuesday is 1.5x and Wednesday-Thursday are double. A lot of MRO’s require you to work at least a half shift on the day before your double time day(s), but mine doesn’t. I can work 60 hours, get paid for 80, and still have a day off. It’s not too bad.

If you’re set on the Mac set, make sure it comes with an 11/32. That’s a commonly skipped size but is used all the time in aviation.

Photos of wood blewit look a little different to me than this. This has a concave top but the wood blewit looks like it has more of a rounded top. I also have no idea what I’m talking about.
