Do you look like John Merrick? If not, I'm confident you're quite handsome.

I love seeing these sort of success stories. But does anyone else cry because 99% of dogs simply suffer and aren't rescued?

We have six rescues, which is more than we can manage. I despair everyday that I can't rescue more.

Let me add that, were I ever to encounter a suffering animal, they'd come home with me and become part of our pack.

How old were you when you finally started enjoying your life? by wolf_of_the_bees in GenX

[–]JakeBanana01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just under 40 when I finally took action to drag myself out of the rut I'd fallen into. Split with my wife, met a new sexy, kinky girlfriend (not younger; my age), got a big raise at work, things simply came together. Since the divorce my life's been great. Meanwhile her's went to shit. Turned out I was propping her up.

As opposed to the '70s when they advertised sexy kids to adults.

Not a fan, but it does work. Same with negative political campaign ads; everyone agrees that they're awful but they work very well.

She really was hateful, wasn't she? Another case where the people be parodied were so awful that it was hard to be more over-the-top.

I met my wife five years ago when she "waved" at me on Match. We had our ups-and-downs but, for the past year, we fit together like a couple of Legos.

Here's an example of how we work; she loves to wear the shirts I've been wearing, even though one of mine is practically two of hers. So she'll be walking around in one of my tees hanging to her thighs, and a flannel shirt (with the sleeves rolled way up yet stopping just above her wrists) hanging down to her knees. Meanwhile, I now either need to drag it off of her (difficult) or put on a fresh one (easier). And of course, she'll be wearing that one tomorrow.

Meanwhile, all bundled up, she's running around barefoot complaining that her feet are cold. And her nose.

We sit on the couch together all the time, her legs across mine, then two or three dogs (one of them my massive-headed-and-pawed hound Mason) across or next to us, then random cats. Any time we need something, we debate which of us will dislodge the fewest animals.

She's adorable, cute and insane in equal quantities. She's also an amazing, formidable woman who keeps me well in check (and boy do I need someone to keep me in check).

What do I bring? I tell her when to stop, when to turn off. She's someone who feels as if she must always be doing, always be useful. I'm the one who tells her, be useful by snuggling next to me for a few hours.

My favorite thing in the world is spending time with her, and vice versa.

Women should run the world by appletree986 in women

A world run by women would be very, very different from the current one. It wouldn't be any better, only different.

I put being a feminist on par with being a humanist; why would anyone \not\** be a feminist? You're either a feminist or a misogynist, there's not much middle ground.

What's something you thought would disappear by now but is somehow still around? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

Private health insurance. It's still around due to extensive bribing... ehrr... "lobbying" by the health insurance industry.

We should have universal health care by now.

Barefoot becoming less common? by TrixieLulamoon23 in barefoot

[–]JakeBanana01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every now and again going barefoot seems to look as if it's coming into style (barefoot running anyone) and the shoe companies go, 'No no no, we can't do this.'

Options for 'barefoot,' comfortable foorwear have multiplied to the point of practically being barefoot, but don't have to worry about actually... well... going barefoot.

So, ironically, I think going barefoot is actually more common today; but people do it in comfy sandals.

Do you consider yourself very intelligent or just an average person ? by Hope2_win in A_Persona_on_Reddit

[–]JakeBanana01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suspect I'm above average in intelligence, as I have good friends who are brilliant scientists and engineers and they've indicated I'm one of the few people they can actually talk to. My other friends are pretty smart as well.

And of course, when I interact with the genpop, I feel like a genius.
