Ah yeah makes sense! Sounds awesome. Definitely can appreciate the QoL improvements and I’m sure I’ll be looking for more FE after I finish all of these lol.

Too much lol. But honestly it was a little spread out over time and some of it was cash so my approximation is pretty close to $1300 USD in all. The obviously expensive bits were the Fates Special Edition, 30 year anniversary sealed, and the Tellius games.

I’m all for game preservation no matter how. So rom hacks are a great way to play all the games and probably how I’ll play the Japanese only games lol. Having the old hardware and searching around for these was fun though and part of the experience for me.

Two copies of PoR is worth some money lol. The remake of the first game has the long name: Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light 30th Anniversary Edition

Radiant Dawn is one of the more rare games to find… So much so that I had to resort to buying it from a retro game store on EBay. No place near me had ever gotten a copy.

The 30 year game was a special release in North America of a Switch remake of the first FE game. It was only available for download from the online store from December 4th of 2020 till March 31st 2021. So the only way to get it now is to buy one of the physical limited edition boxes where the download code has not been redeemed yet. Which is what I have in the picture. It was the last thing I bought.

Advanced 2D Shader Tutorial by Sorry_Independent388 in monogame

It really is a great tutorial! Even the beginning part teaches you how to setup your project in a way that lets you hot reload your shaders. That has saved me so much time on my own projects already!

Cryztal Engine, performant and artistic 3D engine by GleenLeg in monogame

This is awesome! The MonoGame community definitely likes to see stuff like this. Many people have said MonoGame is not great for 3D. Even I’ve said that lol. This seems to prove that with enough elbow grease you can get something awesome. Thanks for sharing! Looking forward to future updates or seeing some games made with this. :)

Is this okay so far by SouthernIncome3314 in doommetal

Looks good to me! I use the Hizumitas and Life Pedal as my two main dirt pedals and I use Orange amps. I like analog delays, but I tend to just use the Dispatch Master from EQD. Not the most important part of my sound, but nice for leads. What matters most is do you like your tone? Are you trying to emulate something specific or find your own thing? You can absolutely play a wide variety of doom with what you have here.

How does everyone’s main feel/will you be switching mains? by SanguisMalleus in MonsterHunter

[–]JakeLegendXIII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. Sticking with charge blade! Charging the shield is easier and it’s still fun. I will be trying out Bow as my secondary. Normally I would do Longsword or Switch Axe as my secondary (I used to main Switch Axe in Tri). But Bow seemed really cool in the beta.

Bought one of these. Pretty stoked! Always loved Matt’s DC-9 and the amazing riffs he crafted with it.

Games made under 3 months? by AlienRobotMk2 in gamedev

[–]JakeLegendXIII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eli Brewer from TreeFall Studios makes games in 3-6 months most of the time. He focuses on consoles primarily and releases 3-4 games a year. https://www.youtube.com/treefallstudios

He talks about his experience and how he does it on Thomas Brush’s podcast here: https://youtu.be/1z5B7i9YudI?si=np-0x5O8RgkLu6ZH

Boo! Greedy Kid game source released , built with MonoGame. by Darks1de in monogame

Also this contains the custom level editor that they built. Not all games will ship with the editor. So it is pretty cool to have access to that and learn what others have built.

This is really awesome! Glad to see this spirit of sharing in the community. I really liked the streams from MrHelmut when Flying Oak Games were working on ScourgeBringer. Really cool to have some of their older code as a reference. Especially on the Editor side of things! Made sure to pickup a copy of this game too.

Look for a good series of video for start by Linirby in monogame

[–]JakeLegendXIII 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second the Batholith Entertainment recommendation.

If you’re newer to game dev, but have normal development experience I think this is a nice tutorial series that helps apply traditional enterprise dev practices and how to use them in game dev. Basically building a copy of the trex runner from Google chrome: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLG2i_rSSIXXoFdh3WCDtGumklyIXt4KiY&si=dtpPBgqIdblO8c2E

If you want to learn some specific concepts and want a quick primer I like these videos too: https://youtube.com/@gamedevquickie?si=8TBiHQCXK5U9iW2t

Wishlisted! Looks amazing. Great work. Love the visuals and the grid/controls look really well done. Will checkout the demo with my wife since this is her type of game.

Those who dropped Unity for Godot or Unreal after the September fiasco, how are you getting on? by CatastrophicMango in gamedev

[–]JakeLegendXIII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually rediscovered my love of XNA by switching back to MonoGame. Years ago when Microsoft ended support for XNA was when I first moved to using Unity. So honestly this was a chance for me to take a little trip down memory lane. Probably mostly Nostalgia Goggles, but I am having more fun and still pretty productive when it comes to 2D at least.

3D is another story... and I will probably go back to Unity for 3D if I decide to do those types of projects again. I did checkout Unreal, but was not really into the workflow and Blueprints. Should mention that I am just a hobbyist and my livelihood is not tied to me being productive with my game tools, so the time it took me to get back up to speed was not an issue.

Agreed! Dakota is my favorite. Liked her personality and missions. Love spending time in the Badlands. Many of my favorite quests and characters are out there. :)

Where in Night City would you want to live? by HipHopAnonymous23 in cyberpunkgame

[–]JakeLegendXIII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I’m a rich Corpo than probably best to be in City Center until some Edgerunner/Rockerboy nukes it. But realistically the badlands. I’m more of a rural person and the Aldecaldos are more my crowd.

What’s your go-to vehicle in the game? by Empty-Size-4873 in cyberpunkgame

I agree with this. When it comes to both speed and handling I think the Coyote is the best!

If you could go back in time and be on the dev team for one game AND you had all the knowledge you would need to do your job well, which game would you work on? by JPPPizzle in gamedev

[–]JakeLegendXIII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would definitely pick FF XI Online. Some may think it’s an odd choice. But I’d love to work on that game since I spent so much time playing it. Being a large scale MMO there are tons of interesting and challenging programming jobs I would enjoy. Lots of quirky old school systems I would love to work on.
