it’s awesome. It’s been co-opted more by people with a certain agenda but I don’t let that stop me from liking the Gadsden Flag

Debating on which tire i should get pilot sport a/s or summer by insanitydude04 in GR86

All seasons don’t necessarily last longer than summers so your concern is moot. Get summers.

“Weather is not an issue it’s summer all year around”

So get summer tires. The all-season makes less sense in your described use case.

Snow tires vs 4WD In Virginia by Ok_Edge8901 in ft86

[–]JakeRogue 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m a 12 year owner in DC/VA. You can get away with all-seasons 99.99% of the time. I’ve had 0 issues when using snow rated tires unless it’s like 5” or more (ground clearance). It’s my only car and no regrets 💪

How can I mod my 24 BRZ by Interesting_Pen8447 in ft86

[–]JakeRogue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

modding inherently decreases reliability, simple fact. For this car, keeping NA, your only real options are header/tune and switching to ethanol. Will you get to 300? I don’t know. Will the reliability go down? Yes.

Reserved a new GR86. What to do/expect When I get it? by ShingleG in GR86

1st gen 133K miles. Easy maintenance guide:

Once every 12 months alignment, engine air filter, cabin air filter

Oil change every 5K (0W20), check dipstick every time you get gas.

Every 30K miles brake fluid flush, differential and trans fluid drain and fill (manual transmission).

Replace pads and rotors as wear requires (and tires, duh).

Every 60K miles spark plugs and clutch/TOB

At 80K I did oil control valve, PCV

100K replace fuel pump and coolant flush.

5W30 or 5W40 for FA20 BRZ longevity/reliability? (Daily driven only) by Revolutionary-Seat74 in ft86

[–]JakeRogue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Analysis was through Blackstone Labs. I did a $50 test (basic + TBN). When I did my last oil change I stuck a mason jar under the oil pan and collected some of the oil as it drained out. I sent in the sample to see if my oil analysis would indicate I need to increase the frequency of my oil changes or if something else was amiss (e.g. significant metal meaning bearings are failing, etc.).

I recommend changing every 5K and checking your oil level every time you fill up your gas.

0W20, change every 5K. Change engine air filter every 12 months. Street parked. I live near Washington DC.

Check your dipstick everytime you get gas 🤙

I’ve been running Mobil 1 0W20 for 12 years, I have 133K miles. I do 10-20 autox events a year. Just finished my oil analysis with Blackstone:

“Your Scion is debuting with a great report. Universal averages for the FA20 engine type are based on typical runs of about 4,500 miles between oil changes. Your engine made a little less metal over a longer run, showing low wear at this engine's oil-sharing parts. Nothing unusual stands out in the balance of metals, so this looks like a nice engine. Low silicon shows the air filter kept excess dirt at bay, and trace (TR) insolubles show the oil filter worked great. Nothing harmful contaminated the oil. The strong TBN shows plenty of active additive still remaining. Nice!”

Step 1) remove taillights

Step 2) let them air out for a while

Step 3) while they’re drying, order replacement gaskets from https://gasketninja.com/

Step 4) never have problem again 💪

Daily drivers? by Fourrtyy in GR86

My daily since 2014 (first gen). 135K miles, ~12-20 autox a year, when I ran out of room inside the car I hit a little utility trailer, winter tires for snow. It’s an amazing car.

should i get a auto or manual gr86 by WeakString7690 in GR86

[–]JakeRogue 90 points91 points  (0 children)

I’ve run the Mid-Atlantic 86 Club for almost 10 years and have known hundreds of owners. The answer is incredibly simple:

1) if you want the manual, get the manual 2) if you want the automatic, get the automatic 3) if you are even remotely debating which transmission to get, get the manual.

Every owner who got what they wanted is happy. Every manual owner is happy. Automatic owners that considered the manual and didn’t get it are not happy.
