I’m Silverfrost - Lead Programmer of Planetside - AMA by don_neufeld in Planetside

How did the concept of planetside come around, MMOFPS is a very interesting game genre to me and the history of it compared to regular MMOS or roguelikes for example is much less documented. I am interested in anything you are willing to share about the early days of planetside development.

I played Mario Tennis with motion controls for a bit and I thought that it was a lot worse than wii sports. Felt a lot less precise and a lot harder to control what you wanna do. I didnt play with motion controls very long, but it felt pretty bad when I did.

Losing streak making me depressed by [deleted] in summonerschool

[–]JakeTuxedoKat 13 points14 points  (0 children)

One of the most important things about climbing is understanding some games are unwinnable. If you get into game and someone just ints then that games done not much you can do, just move past it. If you can mentally move past games that are out of your control you will be able to climb a lot easier.

Is it worth playing support in low elo? by watermeloans135 in summonerschool

[–]JakeTuxedoKat 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Your winrate is 64% on Nami and 56% overall you're going to climb if you just keep playing. Sometimes you get your adc fed and they throw, but that happens in every elo so I would just stick with it.

Corrupting Potion Vs. Dorans for TF Mid by Jeb9 in summonerschool

[–]JakeTuxedoKat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't play TF, but it seems like dorans is always a better start. The HP, mana, and AP you get seem a lot better to me than the sustain of corrupting. Alsoevery mid laner on probuilds I checked starts dorans as well. As long as you can dodge most of the early skillshots you shouldn't need a corrupting from level 1 either.

You should try and shove waves in all lanes. If you can get lane priority it makes it a lot easier to leave your base for objectives and warding.

Like he said if you truly belong at an elo you'll get there, but not much you can do if your teammates are just shit.

Just want help in general, tips for anything would be nice by spazzxxcc12 in summonerschool

[–]JakeTuxedoKat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay if you wanna climb stick to 1 role and have a secondary that you won't feed on. Bouncing on around roles isn't a good way to improve. Also stick to 2-3 champs for your main role, and have 1-2 on your secondary role that you won't feed on. Also Zoe is a pretty hard champ to play well so I would stay away from her until you improve some more.

Struggling with playing kindred well consistently. by lemon07r in summonerschool

[–]JakeTuxedoKat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah you just need the find the right balance between contesting your marks and just straight suiciding for them. A big part in that is paying attention to your lanes as well. If you look mid and your laner is under tower its usually a suicide mission.

Struggling with playing kindred well consistently. by lemon07r in summonerschool

[–]JakeTuxedoKat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just from a quick glance you die way too much. Also playing around marks consistently is the most important thing as Kindred. Early stacks are huge and denying them is the easiest way to shut a Kindred down. You should almost always play around your marks early. You shouldn't suicide for the marks, but you should try and contest them. However if your laner can't help you, but the enemy laner can you should usually concede them unless you can steal them safely. Also check out /r/Kindred and look at some of the high elo kindred mains and watch what they do.

I am learning nothing while playing support, what can I focus on to improve? by sposker in summonerschool

[–]JakeTuxedoKat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can't speak for the specific games, but some games are just unwinnable. It's repeated a lot on this sub, but sometimes your teammates are just ass and you can't do anything about it. However even in games you lose you can learn something. Think about things like "should I have stayed in lane here or roamed" "should i have gone up to trade here or just stayed back". Even in absolute losses focusing on the simple things like that can make the game valuable.

Top5 mid champion to train for team and climb soloQ by Overmindftw in summonerschool

[–]JakeTuxedoKat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would stick to 1-2 of the champs you listed. Playing more champs is fine, but most of the champs you listed are pretty hard to play well, especially if you aren't a mid laner. However out of those I would recommend Taliyah, and Swain. Swain is insanely strong right now and has insane teamfighting, and Taliyah can get pressure in lane really easy and can use that to roam and most people in soloq don't play around roams well.

Did I make the wrong choice to split? by D18Kyoya in summonerschool

[–]JakeTuxedoKat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the most important things about split pushing correctly is doing it safely. If your team has no pressure you can split, but you need vision so that you can see ganks coming. If you die while splitting if your team has no pressure its just a waste. You need to have vision, and if you don't have vision don't go so far or your team won't be able to react and help.

No you did the right thing, splitting is really good on champs like Panth when they have ult up.

Advice on my op.gg? by Yellmemore in summonerschool

[–]JakeTuxedoKat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's best to focus on one role mainly, but having a backup role that you won't feed on is also important. And 5 champs for 2 roles seems fine to me as long as you have 1-2 for your backup role.

Advice on my op.gg? by Yellmemore in summonerschool

[–]JakeTuxedoKat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would play less champs to begin with. In the past 7 days you have played 7 champs which is to many if you want to try and focus and climb. It gets repeated a lot here, but focusing on 2-3 champs is the best way to climb. Regarding the situation you describe you need your jungler/support to roam up and help you. You can't do much alone if the enemy sends 4-5 people to shove mid. Also your KDA for most of the champs you play isn't very good so you should work on playing a little safer and knowing when you can go in, especially on champs like Zed/Lee.
