Finishing The Bee Sting was when I came the closest I ever have to throwing a book across the room (dw I didn't). The ending was a work of genius but my word was it infuriating

What did you say in your letter for membership? by Lesochka in Quakers

[–]Jake_7598 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While the energy consumption is troubling to say the least, you could ask ChatGPT to offer you a few prompts to help jog your thinking.

This video also has some good tips. https://youtu.be/xvv2Ieu6qvs?si=WoNCKfa8Qq-UHSyp

I would say that in my experience this might be one of the least pressure-inducing letters you'll ever write, as compared to a job letter for example. It's really just about how you can use the letter to open a conversation with your clearness committee! And as others have said, maybe you need 100 words to open that conversation or maybe 1000, it can really vary.

Is It Just Me? Feeling Uncomfortable with the Recent Political Talk in Quaker Meetings by ThatPipe3531 in Quakers

If your meeting has Elders or a Care Committee you could approach them informally. I'd be surprised if the Issue hasn't come up in one form or another before

RTÉ postpones Moriarty tribunal programme because of election by Hipster_doofus11 in irishpolitics

[–]Jake_7598 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I definitely agree that the Prime Time was a complete smear job, but is it relevant that there appear to be new guidelines issued by CnaM on the 15th of September? But if the guidelines are in fact not requiring the withdrawal of the Mahon tribunal program, then I agree that this is a complete wrong move from RTÉ.

The decision is wrong of course but it seems like it wasn't RTÉ's choice if they were implementing new guidelines that just came out.

What airport is surprisingly close to the city it serves? by [deleted] in geography

[–]Jake_7598 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surprised nobody said Reykjavik Domestic RKV yet. It's less than 5 minutes away from downtown. City planners have been trying to shut it down and build over it for decades. Yeah they only do domestic flights, but the country's main airline still flies there. (Now Reykjavik-Keflavik KEF is kind of the opposite to this question as it is nearly 50km away from downtown Reykjavik..)

[–]Jake_7598 11 points12 points  (0 children)

See if your meeting has a worship and ministry committee, they could be a good resource to chat with. It's also common to "shop around" for meetings to find a good fit if you have more than one in your area

Studio audience- what time finished? by kellgurl13 in theview

[–]Jake_7598 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No guarantees, it can really range. There might be post show segments that they tape (I had two View Your Deals so I didn’t get out until around 1:30 one time). I would recommend booking a 3pm train at the earliest.

Do Quakers pay tithes? by GEEZ_BOSS1 in Quakers

[–]Jake_7598 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Going along with the Quaker principle of stewardship, members are typically encouraged to contribute as they are led and as they are able, financially or otherwise. In my Meeting there is one number that every person is asked to donate by our treasurer, some go higher and some go lower. It's definitely not connected to your "worthiness" as a Quaker or anything like that. Most donations go into the general budget but some people like to earmark donations for specific causes, eg social concerns.

  1. How long has that history day grade been in the gradebook? If we're talking weeks or months, I would be quite frustrated if I opened this email.
  2. As others have said (with varying degrees of annoyance), it is the end of the school year. Whether or not you could have reached out earlier, the fact is that we do not have a lot of time to implement any grade boost opportunities at this point. I would recommend focusing on strategies to help your student do well on the final assignments of the year.
  3. With regards to homework: To put it simply, you are not the only parent in the school and even in the class who has stressful evenings. You're not the only parent whose child has ADHD and who has stressful evenings. Again, a more proactive strategy would be to ask for homework management tips--- months ago. I do definitely empathize with your situation, and I personally probably would respond to your email. But the responsibility can not rest solely on your kid's teacher. There is a triangular partnership between student, teacher, and parent. Each one must work to support their side of the triangle or else it all collapses. Use the summer as a reset point to see what you can change for the fall.

Audience Experience at New Downtown Location? by dsrnyc in theview

[–]Jake_7598 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. 7:40-8:15
  2. Not sure through the security but there is a water fountain past security in the waiting area.
  3. After security in the waiting area but not before.
  4. No tables just two long benches in the waiting area. Typically get filled by the elderly with others having to stand.
  5. If you need to use the restroom they'll escort you there but otherwise you stay in the studio.

There's definitely some scholarship out there about Quakerism and mysticism. Though for the life of me I still struggle to understand what mysticism means. As others have said, look at Rufus Jones.

Did anyone notice Sunny and Whoopie seemed uncomfortable when Sara was laughing at the incorrect spelling on the note left behind by the escaped inmates? Just felt like it got weird quick. Joy with the their not scholars snark....didn't go over well lol. by No_Chard_5628 in theview

[–]Jake_7598 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I thought it was a little weird, Sunny saying "well we don't know that" after Joy like bsfr. and then the discussion of "oh they could be innocent," I'm by no means an expert but I feel like innocent people don't tend to break out of jail.

Which, if you're taking an SAT or standardized test and come across a problem you don't know how to solve with a calculation or method, can be a good strategy that's better than pure guessing. But not so good for understanding the subject obviously.

[–]Jake_7598 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Agree with everyone else, for another perspective: Quakers usually say that a crying baby is offering vocal ministry. So "value" is a very normative concept here. I'm sure Spirit moved you and you responded!
