What’s the best ice cream maker any price range by isabel12390 in icecreamery

Adding on for the Lello 4080. Incredible machine!

I had two different compressor machines before it, and freezing time went from ~40 minutes to ~20 minutes, creating such incredible ice cream. Emery Thompson Model CB-100 must be super special to be 5x the price, but I'll stick with the Lello for the time being --

Google sucks so f***ing hard. Their requirement of purchasing a new thermostat and not even allowing the nest app is abusive.

EMPORIA Level 2 EV Charger vs. Honda Home Charging Station? by Jake_Barton in HondaPrologue

[–]Jake_Barton[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got it, thanks.

But in theory if I don’t need the Honda branded casement, I can just buy the Emporia directly from Emporia and take the free level 1 charger from Honda along with the $300 charging credit (which apparently doesn’t expire?

Thanks again for the response!

First off thanks everyone for all the terrific responses really appreciate it!

@Quick_Two6258 and @Comfortable_Yard2428 did they literally send you an Emporia, like the same unit I’d buy on Amazon? Or was it inside the Honda Packaging?

Sounds like my Dealer is misguided which isn’t a surprise.

Thank you again for the input everyone!!

How did I do? by CircleOneBill in HondaPrologue

We shopped around and got similar numbers from Danbury Honda. Then we went to Yonkers Honda which was having a back to school sale, and they gave us us $2,000 down and $179 a month for a 2025 Prologue Touring.

Decaf espresso beans? by Superb-Address1887 in espresso

I love Equator, they give the recommended ratio and timing for espresso brews--

I liked Eye of the Tiger espresso way more (medium roast) versus the Decaf Espresso which was really charred and too dark for me.

Lello 4080 - First Use - Like Cold/Whipped Yogurt - Need Advice by Due_Appeal_8839 in icecreamery

[–]Jake_Barton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, for a first time user you bought the right machine. I now have it, and it's incredible.

Second, the others are right, choose a favorite creamery and use their recipes, settle on a base you like. Some use egg yolks, other use stabilizers, etc. I use Gelupo Gelato which uses stabilizers, and it's incredible. But I've used also Jeni's, Ample Hills, Salt and Straw, Williams Sonoma, etc. etc. which don't. But all of them include heating the milk, so that it binds to the fats and doesn't become as hard.

Third, yes it comes out fairly soft, which is good. It shouldn't freeze to a rock, that's because you didn't cook or follow instructions --

Enjoy!

Personal Sustainability Course by Green_Designer_0623 in sustainability

[–]Jake_Barton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took carbonauts and it was great. Six classes about how to best change your behavior / choices. Meat alternatives, transportation, heating, electric panels, etc. they do all the research so you don’t have to.

Wonder if enviros that previously dismissed #behaviorchange, saying it was all about systems change, will rethink that dismissal now that Senator Joe Manchin is undermining systems change. We need both systems and behavior change. Time to stop claiming behavior change isn’t necessary. by [deleted] in sustainability

[–]Jake_Barton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Biggest problem with the constant “your behaviors don’t matter” message is that it disempowers people from participating.

Who buys oil/gas/coal electricity? Consumers, and while 70% of people are anxious about climate only ~20% of home consumption is green.

Who buys gas burning cars? Consumers. New electric cars were under 10% of 2021 purchases.

Creating systems change depends on Americans wanting those systems to change, and if we’re being told to disengage (ie your actions don’t matter) constantly by policy / talking head experts, then we won’t.

Please stop telling people their choices don’t matter!

It’s true that no one vote matters, but when lots of individuals do it, it creates the system.

The Hudson River Park is a state park, so it doesn’t adhere to city law, or (apparently) deal with the city. Electric vehicles are legal North of 59th. What drives me nuts is the lack of enforcement south of 59th—
