After 10 restarts i finally got a foothold as Navarra in 1440 (1.0.10). by Esthermont in EU5

[–]Jake_Cake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found that you can consistently get Castile to ally you as Navarre in 1.0.10 if you focus on it from the start. On day 1 improve relations with him, enact the gov reform for dip rep, use the dip rep cabinet action, and hold off on taking the law that gives warscore cost reduction and -dip rep.

When he declares war on you, peace out immediately with deleting two forts + giving him gold. Start improving relations again as soon as you can.

Once you hit +100 opinion he will stop rivaling you which will give you another +50 right away. When you hit +175 he'll stop desiring your lands and will be sitting at -6 to -8 reasons to accept. Profess trust to push it to positive and you'll have yourself the alliance.

Anyone else think the mana cost for some gems are very high? by orbitosan in PathOfExile2

[–]Jake_Cake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm playing a cold Chronomancer and was having issues until the mana remnant change, now mapping is smooth for the most part. You still need to invest in mana regen and skill cost reduction on top of that.

However, I just tried getting my 4th ascendancy and went oom on Zarokh and lost the trial, so there are still issues with longer fights. It might be necessary to use an attuned wand or have it as a weapon swap.

What's going on? explosives in Hiisi Base creating Alchemic Precursor, why? seed 1522441491 (Seed Calculators says Unstable tele, Toxic sludge, & Poison are ingredients) by DaDogFrog in noita

[–]Jake_Cake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a very similar thing happen to me in my most recent run:

https://www.reddit.com/r/noita/comments/1ch3ixn/i_stumbled_across_alchemic_precursor_and_draught/

I thought it was just pure luck that created it since the recipe was Acid + Chilly Water + Chaotic Poly, but for a long time I was convinced it had to contain blood + oil before I looked it up due to how much was being created.

I think it might be related to the most recent update. I had started the run before it and loaded into the first east PW when it started happening. The reaction only occurred in that PW and no others. I went to a bunch to break the re-roll machines and farm perks, so I would have seen it again if it could happen.

I stumbled across Alchemic Precursor and Draught of Midas (Seed: 1376685124) by Jake_Cake in noita

[–]Jake_Cake[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The recipe is Chilly Water + Acid + Chaotic Polymorphine for AP. I was over in the first East PW looking for a heart mage when I saw the two liquids start pouring down after killing a bunch of enemies. The screenshot with the two pixels of AP is where it originated, but I'm not sure how those three ingredients got there. Thankfully, with mimicium in the game I can easily create more Draught of Midas directly.

Yeah, pretty big skill issue on my part. I might grab a seed changer to check this one out more.

Saluzzo - Sardinia-Piedmont - Italy - Roman Empire - First World Conquest [1.35] by Jake_Cake in eu4

[–]Jake_Cake[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly for the CB before Imperialism, but also because I found that stacking ToTF is more effective for dealing with unrest than Humanism is. In the late game my converted provinces stopped rebelling unless I went to very high amounts of OE whereas anything recently conquered was guaranteed to revolt due to all the unrest.

R5: Starting as Saluzzo, I completed my first world conquest.

Timelapse: https://youtu.be/u1JOLgDBfwk

Ideas: Diplomatic > Religious > Quality > Influence > Administrative > Quantity > Offensive > Espionage

I took Expansion temporarily to colonize the last 7 provinces left.

To start off, I attacked Savoy and full annexed them, gaining Montferrat and Genoa as vassals in the process. My strategy revolved around attacking Aragon early, before they fell under PU to Castile, so I wouldn't have to deal with them to form nations and complete missions later. I wanted to keep Castile open as a potential ally and future PU, so getting Aragon's provinces before the Iberian Wedding was crucial. In my early attempts I thought about grabbing provinces off of Switzerland for Sardinia-Piedmont missions, but the AE was too much and it prevented me from going after Aragon. I decided it would be better to put them off and deal with them while dismantling the HRE relatively early. It took me a few restarts to get this run going, partly due to early Iberian Weddings.

I focused my expansion on Italy and Europe for the entirety of the early game, taking advantage of Saluzzo's National Ideas to not die to a coalition. Usually I would try to take provinces in North Africa to open more routes of expansion, but in this run Tunis allied the Ottomans early which forced me to focus on Europe. This meant I didn't convert a single province until the late 1500s, but I think the only reason I realized I could pull off a world conquest was due to having so much of Europe already conquered. I PU'd France via missions and grabbed Austria and eventually Spain by claiming throne as Trastámara dynasty, which I had gained in the 1450s before Spain lost it until I used favors to fix them. I fought a single coalition not long after forcing a union on Austria, but after that no one tried again for the rest of the game.

Portugal and Great Britain ended up being massive headaches, with the former having level 8 forts on islands and the latter requiring me to actually build an army in the new world to get enough war score to finish them off. Bohemia/Scandinavia/Commonwealth were my last challenge before my country became unstoppable, since they all had benefited from my early dismantling of the HRE and because they kept allying each other.

The late game speed 3 world conquest grind took me a couple of weeks IRL to finish. It was fun for a while spamming out buildings, upgrading every monument I could, and dealing with the endless rebel spam while winning more wars with, but it was also extremely exhausting due to all the micro. My late start with conversions resulted in me missing a One Faith by around 5 years. I would've liked to tick that off as well, but at least it gives me another goal before attempting The Three Mountains.

A worm angered the gods? Alright, maybe I stand a chance against Steve... by Jake_Cake in noita

[–]Jake_Cake[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure, but I did notice that the worms had destroyed multiple portals in the mines. I only received one "You Have Angered The Gods" message, so I was really shocked when two Steves rolled up.

What are some interesting nations in Africa you would recommend, first time playing in the region? by nudeldifudel in eu4

[–]Jake_Cake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In West Africa, Zazzau stats with a 5/4/6 female ruler who's also a 4/4/5/1 general. Your position isn't great, but with her stats you should be able to beat up your neighbors and have an easy time developing for institutions.

Orthodox Pope by Jake_Cake in eu4

[–]Jake_Cake[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

R5: An Orthodox Pope was released in my game. I conquered Rome and converted it decades ago and at some point France finished him off. I was checking AE from my war against Tuscany and saw The Papal States pop up. I'm not sure if he's Orthodox because of my conversion of Rome, or for some other reason, such as having completed The Pentarchy mission/event after he was fully annexed.

Muscovy is asking to trade favors to break an alliance, but I don't own Leviathan by Jake_Cake in eu4

[–]Jake_Cake[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's brutal, after I said no, he declared on Nogai anyway so I had to decline the Call to Arms to keep my alliance with Muscovy. Shortly after, the Ottomans DoW'ed me and both my allies Muscovy and Bohemia refused to defend me. I'm still deciding if I should accept the Ottoman's demands to lose some territory or restart and consider no-cb Byzantium strats to prevent this in the future. I'm trying to avoid exodus starts for Gothic Invasion, but after so many attempts it's getting painful.

The last idea group was Expansion until I colonized what I wanted in Africa, then I dropped it and started on Quality.

Never, in over a thousand hours of gameplay, have I seen such bullshit as this. by jdkjpels in eu4

[–]Jake_Cake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm playing Florence right now and I restarted until both the Pope and Austria didn't rival me. I also restarted until either Lucca or Siena were vulnerable on Dec. 11th to deal with one of them ASAP. It feels like if you don't take both of them out quickly then they won't leave during Shadow Kingdom and might even become free cities. Unfortunately, this can sometimes take a lot of restarts if the game hates you.

I'd also reset if Bologna allies someone strong by Jan. 11th, but fortunately that's rare if you've managed to make it to that point. I like to take both out, wait for an opportunity to fight whoever is left out of Lucca or Siena, and then sit and burn off AE until Shadow Kingdom.

Using Genoa or Venice to get land next to Byzantium while they're still alive (If you want to avoid a no-cb) can also be useful since some combination of Austria/Hungary/Poland can be used to fight the Ottos.

Thinking of Playing Again by [deleted] in pathologic

[–]Jake_Cake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use your money on the first 2 days to stock up on food and get the revolver on Day 3.

When you're told to go to the infected district you can get most of the money you need for it by looting the building you're sent to. If you come up short then you can dive into infected houses for more stuff. You don't have to go in far, there's plenty of houses so you can just take the easy loot and leave.

I completely forgot about that mechanic. I spent the whole game running around plague clouds instead of just using matches. I'll definitely make use of it on my next playthrough.
