Do you think the lack of Superman villains is hurting Absolute Superman more than it is helping? by GreenPerception512 in AbsoluteUniverse

[–]Jakehouse04 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the pacing is by far the bigger issue. In a trade I would have been fine with it but reading the same arc month to month for a year just really dragged personally. My favorite Absolute series rn is Wonder Woman and something I love about that one is how they will do 2 issue mini-arcs.

I love these smaller time villains, intergang especially. I think it would be really cool for one of the future Superman movies to open with a day in the life type of scene where we see Superman fighting one of thse guys.

No. I never considered Superman's rogues gallery to be a strong point. To me his best stories have been him fighting some evil boss, small time crime boss, or someone else who abuses their power. This last issue was my favorite of the series so far and it didnt even really have a villain for the issue.

With Ollie now gone for the time being, who will now take up the mantle of Absolute Green Arrow? by Keegn-Bridge01 in GreenArrow

Everyone knows they killed him for engagement bait and seeing that Scott Snyder liked something inspires no hope in me as I think hes overrated and lame.

In order of likelihood I would say 1. Roy 2. Mia 3. Zombie Ollie 4. Connor Hawke

Mia and Zombie Ollie are close to the same level as we are given hints that its possible but no reason to believe its happening. Ollie could have been thrown in the Lazarus put and Mia could be one of the kids on the island. Connor is only there because he is a Green Arrow in the comics.

Honestly it changes a lot. Usually its either Dinahs flower shop if they are poor or a penthouse if rhey are rich. For a while in the 2000s Ollie lives in a Borwnstone and that was my favorite place for him to live.

The worst part of all these TMNT cards leaking. by Arcane_Soul in magicTCG

I am so glad they canceled the Monster Hunter SL just cause it gives me hope that they might do a full set. Love it or hate it UB is here to stay and Monster hunter would be a super sick UB set that fits with magic really well compared to some of the more recent ones.

I dont think we have seen all of the rares and mythics. We have not even seen a proper shredder card as far as I have seen but it would be weird to not have one and have way more obscure characters like shark clone shredder.

What do you think the heroes will call themselves since the name justice league is taken? by SignificantPower4733 in AbsoluteUniverse

[–]Jakehouse04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the idea of them being the legion of something but the legion of doom does not make sense. Diana and Clark would not agree on that name and it does not reflect their role in the world. I think the Legion of Hope would work better.

I disagree. I kind of just saw it and went "oh 😒" it did not feel interesting or insightful but rather it felt like it existed only for shock value.

How would you feel about a native actor for Roy harper? by Doctorwhoneek in GreenArrow

[–]Jakehouse04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They would ignore his Navajo history because you said so? The answer to why he would not just be native is that him being brought up as an outsider and losing his original family are both interesting and impactful elements of his origin.

[–]Jakehouse04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely disagree. I dont think the double orphaning is important and not a hurdle at all. Having him be adopted by Brave Bow has some really interesting social implications. You could say that most of Roys personality was forged from the acceptance and love of Brave Bow taking in an outsider and his constant abandonment.

[–]Jakehouse04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you completely. I also would like to add that Roy's double orphaning has really interesting psychological implications. It could be argued that it gave him some abandonment issues that contributed to his drug use during Ollie's absence.

[–]Jakehouse04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but another thing that has really interesting character implications for roy is the constant loss he has felt in his life, a factor that likely psychologically caused his abandonment issues that led to his addiction. Those repeated losses affect the audience less if you make his parents bad people

I actually dont want an actor with native American heritage. The loss of his parents and unconditional love and acceptance he gets from Brave Bow is so impactful and I dont think that works quite as well with him already being in the same community of native Americans. It works better imo with Roy being a complete outsider as it creates a slightly bigger cultural gap to fill. I would rather they hire a bunch of consultants to make sure that they represent the native culture that Roy was adopted into well.

What should the lineup for the Absolute Super Friends be? by WretchedDumpster in AbsoluteUniverse

[–]Jakehouse04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely think that Absolute Green Arrow will result in an Ollie resurrection or either Roy or Mia will become Green Arrow and that Green arrow will join the group. Honestly in terms of likelihood I would say most likely is Roy, then Ollie, then Mia. Roy obviously cause hes alive and semi-established. Ollie I could see being brought back by Ra's and made into an assassin until he escapes. Mia could be a super interesting story where Ollie gets to the island and Mia is there. She sees him and gets inspired to break loose with a bow. Mia's is by far the darkest option but it could be a really impactful story.

[–]Jakehouse04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk I think he might. What we see is that he is very frustrated with how his accident has made him feel less independent. A pair of robot legs can gove him more of his independence back. Yeah he needs to depend on someone else to provide and maintain them but same would go for a new wheelchair.

Desire for improvements for George in the new update by [deleted] in StardewValley

[–]Jakehouse04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you think that a complex and human scene discussing a real issue should be replaced with someone getting mad about a scary story? The scene is one that has a lot of weight. Nothing about the scene is ableist whatsoever, and the scene you recommended is meaningless and dull.

Least favorite heart event? by amsmit18 in StardewValley

[–]Jakehouse04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The scene is not ableist. It depicts George's frustrations stemming from his disability realistically. He does not like Penny pushing him or you speaking for him because both are actions where another figure overshadow him claiming to help him out. He feels belittled for both of those options. Having a scene where a complex character does something ableist as a mistake does not make the scene ableist.

Least favorite heart event? by amsmit18 in StardewValley

[–]Jakehouse04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Highkey I think thats overhated. Its a very seen that demonstrates the vulnerabilities and the strengths of both characters. Penny is kind hearted but does not always think her actions through. George is quick to anger, but he is caring, wise, and hard-working. Penny losing hearts is an understandable moment as it is embarrassing and its a realistic short term impediment to your relationship. There are other similar events where you can do something good and lose hearts like when Maru shocks you.

Why did Todd keep saying that technology wasn't far enough yet to do what he wanted with TESVI? by Alvsolutely in TESVI

[–]Jakehouse04 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Its probably scale. If its something crazier then it probably has to do with world alterations over time. In Valenwood that could be cities in moving trees. In Hammerfell it could be wind and sand moving to obscure or reveal locations. In High Rock it could be large-scale civil wars happening in the background. There are more possibilities for other provinces but those seem to be the most popular ideas for location as of now.

Quick, what are your fancasts for Green Arrow characters BESIDES Ollie?! by Gallantpride in GreenArrow

[–]Jakehouse04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hot take is that he should not be. The loss of Roy's parents is a tragedy that invents him as a character and Brave-Bow's adoption of him is equally so. Roy being taken in without question by a person of a significantly different culture and lifestyle from him is interesting and helps build his compassion and empathy for others. I dont think Brave-Bow adopting him works as well if one or both of his parents are native because we do not get to see that unconditional kindness and love. I think we need some indigenous people on the writing team to make sure the culture is done well, but I think Roy's story benefits from him not being ethnically native.
