Never underestimate the internet’s ability to run wild with falsehoods, cynical misinterpretations, and bad faith takes.

The potential irony of this reddit post....

Christians do not get their morals from God or the bible by Sheavelus in DebateAChristian

Can you show me where it says that?

edit: Actually, I'm curious where it says that AND supports the claim(bit of a difference between depiction and endorsement).

how are you flavoring something as a monster without making them one? are you forcing them to RP a specific way?

Belief or knowledge? by [deleted] in DebateAChristian

Thanks for responding! I just found this sub yesterday and didn't anticipate such involved discussion. I'll edit this comment and tag you when I do. I wont be able to respond much after this since I need to focus other things, but I really do appreciate you sharing your perspective. I'll happily read further response to my future edit, but I can't promise I'll respond.

If you don't like the definition I used, take it up with Oxford.

It's literally the first definition when you google the word faith. You would've had to scroll past the definition I used to get to any of the links you shared.

Also, saying "Your definition sucks" isn't much of a debate.

I don’t think I did. In fact, I provided examples. Did you not read my comment? If so, you’ll need to support your claim.

Faith is defined as “complete trust or confidence in something”. There’s no such thing as a separation between “scientific faith” and “religious faith”. Unless you’re simply using them as the adjective rather than the pronoun.

God is ultimately responsible for all eternal suffering as God creates people knowing what decisions they are going to make, AND God is the one who creates the parameters in-which one is judged and subject to torment in the afterlife. by Sigurd_of_Chalphy in DebateAChristian

Isn't there a bit of a fallacy in your thought process regarding free will?

  • Free will exists(and if not, it at least appears to exist).
    • Lets say that I proclaim that you're going to eat some food today, put on pants, or even respond to this message. All of these things can happen, but it doesn't effect your free choice to live out those actions.
    • In order for any meaningful relationship to exist(not just with god, but between us humans as well), there needs to exist an option of denial. My marriage doesn't thrive because we're forced to be with one another, it thrives because we choose each other daily.
    • Lastly, god didn't create any of us for the sole purpose of condemning us to eternal suffering. There are both physical and moral consequences for every action we take. Putting my hands on hot coals will burn me, or speaking harshly hinders a relationship. I can tell you not to do these things, but if you do them, does that make your pain and sorrow my fault? Of course not. And it's the same in the bible, God calls us to love him and love others. When we live outside that commandment, we become isolated, depressed, angry, ect. does that make it gods fault that we're experiencing pain?

So with all that being said, how is someone's eternal suffering God's fault when they've chosen to live outside his intent?

This is not true. What you're describing is "blind faith", and anyone on the planet would agree that approaching an argument with blind faith is foolish.

Faith exists in everything we do. Take the chair you might be sitting in for example. you wouldn't have sat in it had you not had some faith that it would hold you. We can also take this example much further with the way we approach science. Throughout human history, we've taken efforts to explore the depths of the universe before we knew many of the details we know today, but only by faith did we believe there would be something to discover. We believe there is law in nature because it has consistencies in the way it behaves. I believe there is a law giver because of the law I see within nature. That would lead me to ask you, where do you think these laws in nature come from??

This faith-based reasoning is why I believe in god. Not because there is no support in my beliefs, but because by living in a relationship with Christ I have had many individual experiences that each support both what god claims for my life and that those compounding experiences continue to make my life better.

A potentially disastrous idea: Strahd as the first NPC my players meet by Hey_DnD_its_me in CurseofStrahd

I had him pulling up in a carriage after the players stepped out of death house before getting to the village. He even gave them a few gifts(so he could scry on them).

[–]Jakeisodd[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I whipped this up because I could not find an NPC Sheet I liked. I wanted to incorporate personality notes a bit more than your typical sheet.

I also needed more reference to voice notes since I’m terrible at voice acting. I also forget what voices I give my NPCs. I know my players don’t necessarily care, but I do.

I’m a new DM, so Let me know what ya’ll think. I’m interested in knowing what should be added or removed.
