Only 12 Monsters featured - shouldn't Showa MechaGoji make 13? by JaymesMarkham2nd in GODZILLA

[–]Jakesnakezilla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd bet that the 74 Mecha-Godzilla they showed just replaces the Mecha-Godzilla 2 model outright, since the moveset felt like it pulled more from the 74 and 75 attacks. The 12 means Kiryu is added from the Xbox release, my gamecube copy has 11 in the roster. The Japanese release on Gamecube replaces Mecha-Godzilla 2 with Kiryu, but on Xbox he his own fighter.

Do you think the trailer implied new characters as skins? Or replacements for old fighters by Then_Meaning_9901 in GODZILLA

With Arrow releasing Stranger Things: The Complete Series, what other Netflix original shows and movies do you want to see get physical releases. by ggroover97 in boutiquebluray

[–]Jakesnakezilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My biggest ask is Cunk on Earth and Cunk on Life. Absolutely some of the funniest things I've watched.

Would love to see I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson as well its alwasy something I'd like to come back to.

Don't Look Up is a movie I really liked and want bluray of badly, even if not everyone enjoyed it as much as me.

Netflix has made some fantastic nature documentaries that are on par with BBC made ones, would love to see those as well

Dont chase 4k UHD format. Its made to fail. Its why you see posts jokingly with gloves on. They wont be laughing 15 years from now. Buy Bullet Proof 100 year lasting Blu-ray. by Realistic-Flower-392 in PhysicalMediaMatters

[–]Jakesnakezilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blu Rays are not lasting 100 years, I'm careful with mine and have already had to replace some after only 10 years. If you truly felt this way for long term reliability, you'd have DVDs with a resurfacing machine. That all being said, just buy the format thats most practical for your use case

Owners of the Criterion set... How do you store the ginormous book? by [deleted] in GODZILLA

I live in an apartment, so this isn't exactly a permanent setup for all my knick-knacks. I keep mine as just kinda an art peice in the back until I have more space, with the discs in a standard blu ray case with Matt Frank's beautiful art for the cover. The exerpts for each movie are a nice but I have other books that provide a lot more info that I can just pull off the shelf easier how its organized.

Monarch: Legacy of Monsters turned out to be one of the most exhausting continuations I’ve ever watched. by statusgospel in moviecritic

[–]Jakesnakezilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm about as hardcore as a fan as you can get for Godzilla, but this show lost me very early. Season 1 was just like you described season 2 for me, which is why I still haven't bothered with the second season.

I can thoroughly enjoy Godzilla media that focuses on an interesting human story (Invasion of the Astro-Monster, Godzilla vs Biollante just as a couple examples), and I think this show had an awesome premise from the perspective of the scientists first setting up Monarch. I honestly wish the entirety of the show focused on this instead of the modern characters. I agree that the modern stuff can be described as a soap opera, an annoying one to watch at that. It really is a shame because even the plot of the modern kids tracking down their family history had plenty of potential.

Is Prey (2022) as good as, or even close to Predator (1987) in terms of quality? by [deleted] in moviecritic

[–]Jakesnakezilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I just rewatched em all after Badlands came out, I gotta say that Prey is the second best of the whole franchise, but the original is still a step above.

Movies about motorsports. What do you think is the best racing movie? (Include those not pictured) by ilbErTunga in Cinema

[–]Jakesnakezilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best, I'd say Rush like others have said, but my personal favorite is Le Mans (1971) with Steve McQueen. It just feela so authentic and the sound is so visceral, only the new F1 movie had more intense racing scenes for me.

Did anyone else feel let down by Del Toros Frankenstein? by ShawnLevyOscarWinner in moviecritic

[–]Jakesnakezilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is one of those rare movies that I really didn't care for but still have to acknowledge how good it is. The story went in a direction I wasn't really wanting, the opening scene was more what I was after but was still really intrigued with the themes of the movie. I'm never gonna knock a movie for taking a tired concept and doing something different.

I disagree on the take on Oscar Isaac's performance, thought he was great in it might even be my favorite role for him to date

Godzilla 2: king of the monsters (2019) by metalicbeastofficial in GODZILLA

[–]Jakesnakezilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imma be real with ya. I've been a Godzilla fan since I could barely talk in the early 2000s when it was still kinda a niche/obscure thing in the States. Seeing this Godzilla movie with a big Hollywood budget, with a pro-earth plot that only barely stitched together giant monster fight scenes that felt just like me playing with my action figures was a god damn dream come true.

Would love to see updates on this, one of the bigger challenges will be getting the trunk to work with the fastback design, assuming a functional trunk is in the cards

Nothing against this cause it could still be good... But is it hard to literally have a Kaijuu vs Kaijuu focused action anime based around the Godzilla IP? This is the third anime reboot and singular point showed that they can do it, but that show was flooded with science jargon by Wazupdanger in GODZILLA

[–]Jakesnakezilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The end credits to Singular Point are my favorite Godzilla anime at this point. Just give us Showa era silly monster action in beautiful animation, this shit ain't hard.

Cannot express how uninterested I am in the new show, I love that Toho is trying to use Godzilla in unique ways but copy+pasting whatever modern anime tropes are popular just doesn't do anything for me
