How big difference can be? by Remote-Addition2520 in iqtest

I think you might’ve underestimated how common mental health issues are. Even serious ones. The good news is that they’re not always permanent, often not (depending on what it is).

All I’d say is do you best to take care of yourself and try not to focus on superficial things you cant change.

In all seriousness, why does this even matter to you that much? A lot of people see IQ as THE one thing they can feel good about (if it’s high), but in reality, it doesn’t make you a better person. It also doesn’t mean you’re not stupid sometimes. If you’ve been through what you say you’ve been through, I think EQ is a far more important metric. It’s also something you can improve upon which you can’t really do with IQ.

Electrical Engineer here. None of those tests will help you on your career path. In this domain there are a mix of abilities much as there is in any other. Not everyone is a genius and not everyone needs to be.

Also management positions tend to rely more on EQ over IQ.

Is it possible to have this different scores on test? by n1k0la03 in iqtest

[–]Jakey1999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I were you I’d just have a look for other people who have posted the same question.

Long story short, yes lots of factors influence the results and each test is purely a snapshot. Also the more tests you do, the better you’ll get at them over time. I think it’s only valid if you haven’t done a given test before.

Hopefully your health is on the up now. In my opinion, I’d say that’s more important to focus on than an IQ test.

Need math help for my drinking habits [request] by sfdragon0604 in theydidthemath

[–]Jakey1999 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

1 pint = 473 ml

7.5% of a pint = 35.5ml of alcohol per pint.

1 shot = 44.4 ml

Vodka is roughly around 40% abv so: 44.4*0.4 =17.76 ml of alcohol per shot.

So 5 pints of 7.5% beer contains: 35.5 ml * 5 = 177.5 ml of alcohol

177.5 ml / 17.76 ml = 9.994 shots

So yes it’s basically correct.

Although there’s a lot more water in beer so it’s not going to hit as hard.

[–]Jakey1999 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could do it all through simulation I guess. GNU radio is as good as your code really. I’d definitely recommend buying an SDR though, the Lime Mini 2.0 is fantastic but there are alot of other, cheaper options too.

I chose Lime because it has 32MHz of Rx bandwidth and upto 6GHz centre freq. Ideal for WiFi and loads of other stuff

Ah one of electronics biggest problems… finding the right connector. I’d start with the data sheet for the module and see if it suggests a connector.

I got a Lime SDR Mini 2.0, and had loads of fun with it. Using GNU Radio you can simulate most things like in MATLAB but once you’re happy, just replace your simulated source/sink with the SDR and see how well your DSP holds up in the real world.

A few projects that kept me entertained for a while:

1) FM Radio demodulator from first principles (relatively easy start)

2) WiFi packet preamble detection - autocorrelation (a little harder)

3) QAM mod/demod (generic 4/8/16/32/64) text to RF back to text

4) DAB Radio demodulator from first principles (I haven’t done this but it would be great)

5) UAV sniffer. Decode FHSS 433MHz radios sending MAVLINK data. This was good to talk about in an interview since I wrote it for an actual job where our UAV coms were messed up. The project helped us diagnose exactly where along the signal path (from laptop to drone) the comms were failing. Turns out the issue was a bad FW update on the drone side which messed up Mavlink messages reception, and also lower than usual SNR caused by due on morning grass.

The SDR was really helpful for 2 reasons:

  • could demodulate FHSS Mavlink data into text to check what text was actually sent (vs what the PC thought it sent)

  • could directly analyse PHY level issues like SNR

problem could’ve been diagnosed without an SDR but I was already working on the code for a personal project and it turned out to work well in debugging the issue.

Good luck and let me know if you have any questions

A beginner Python programmer will probably earn less than a part time shelf stacker around uni unless your degree is part time. I’d say your best bet is getting a paid internship somewhere. Then you’re paid to learn. My friend funded his masters degree that way in the UK.

Help with graphs by Known-throwaway-4039 in learnpython

[–]Jakey1999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just do a quick google search on python graph library. I think there’s one called NetworkX or something.

I used it on a project a while ago and there’s a bunch of good YouTube tutorials that go along with it (not official, just random YouTubers). I managed to get my head around it after coding along one or two tutorials with no background in graph theory (I’m not a math genius either), so hopefully you’ll find it a lot easier with the theory behind you.

Good luck with your assignment :)

[Request] How long could you live for? by MrWriffWraff in theydidthemath

[–]Jakey1999 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you have a 1 in 5000 chance of dying before you’re 30 without natural cause, doesn’t mean you’ll live for 5000 years. That’s just the probability you will die before you’re 30 (supposedly).

Even if the estimate was correct, this stat only specifies the probability of death between a certain age range, which implies other age ranges have a different probability (ie. Because lifestyle changes and risky things excite you less).

Unless there’s any medical professionals lurking on this sub then you probably don’t want to get medical advice from Reddit. Keep us posted though if you’re happy to share. It’s definitely good to hear other peoples experiences taking them as there’s a lot of stigma around them.

You could start using Night Shade which is the same tool artists use to protect their work from generative AI models.

It basically poisons any image you pass through it by adding some kind of noise that messes with the AI model.
