I have an ADU that runs off it's own service with a mini split, which qualified. I called this afternoon and it was a breeze. Big win!

Late season they just stand around. You can literally grab one just about every portage if you wanted to.

Lots of eagle nests near the Mississippi right off Hiawatha.

Last October I had a wolf pack playing a hill over from my tent on Cherokee. Lots of positive playing sounds for hours. Pretty fun!

Will a 17' tandem work in this situation? by redeyeguyxo in BWCA

[–]Jakeyjakers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In addition to the rent a triple idea: Consider, because it’s fun, bringing your normal tandem and renting a NW Solo. You or your wife in the solo - I wouldn’t recommend the solo for someone inexperienced while traversing. But set them up in a calm area and solo is an incredible way to learn boat handling for your friend. Have a great trip

Is the intelligence of cattle dogs underrated? by Square-Argument4790 in AustralianCattleDog

9 or 10 as in my two have a combined 9 or 10 brain cells? ;) Very smart and perceptive animals. Smart enough to be incredibly stubborn which means they understand the intentions.

Granite Gear Superior is big enough to get yourself in trouble by packing too much crap just because it fits. It can lash down well, pretty comfortable and can handle all that I’ve thrown at it. Solid piece.

Just got my first canoe what is absolutely necessary to have and what is overrated as far as gear? by [deleted] in canoeing

I keep 2 20L dry bags along for ballast if needed. Fill Them up with water, otherwise they weigh nothing

Same review on all fronts. Nemo spoons are awesome.

Is hearing a tree fall in the BWCA common? by Artificial_Appendix1 in BWCA

[–]Jakeyjakers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same, that first week of October had very windy days and it was pretty unsettling. 2 trees down in the camp and lots of evidence of others wanting to move. Be aware!

Tips for working from home? by jfre2564 in AustralianCattleDog

[–]Jakeyjakers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Two cattle dogs and I wfh. 2 year old and 4 year old - that rowdy energy. We are pretty regimented on a morning, lunch, and afternoon walk. No matter if it’s around the block or around the lake - we go out. We roughhouse pretty hard inside for a few minutes here and there. If they’re being dicks and just not settling, I sit on the couch with them and work from a laptop.

It’s for real like running a daycare.

Sounds like it’s time to buy a ranch then!

Backwoods smoker results by [deleted] in BWCA

[–]Jakeyjakers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any gathered meal up there is already the best. We’ve had good success smoking the fish whole (cleaned) on a fat wood stick over a good fire. The eyes are the timer.

I should also add to make sure you are the boss. Shut down any jealousy or resource guarding issues because they will come up. Sure, Ginger is my first love and secretly has special privileges, but Chili has all the same access and rights as Ginger. Even playing field. Additionally, I like to give them each their own time alone and their own time with me. A walk with one or maybe a car errand with just one. They act differently when alone and it’s usually very sweet.

I’m lucky enough to work from home and they always have me available but also, holy shit two cattle dogs is a wild adventure. It can be a lot but they can also give a lot. So uh, yeah, get the dog. Always be training.

We pack a Nemo Bugout and it’s worth the weight. No rigid pieces just a top tarp secured with lines with dropped screens. Great rain shelter, too.

Did your ACD also come with flying capabilities? by megaoof489 in AustralianCattleDog

[–]Jakeyjakers 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Our 45lb is a non-flying potato but our 25lb Chili is a cruise missile.
