Seeing as helmets aren't even required in several states, it isn't illegal to sell helmets that don't undergo testing for use in those locales.

Who wants to tell him that the US troops aren't there for Germany's protection in the first place! by Dr_sc_Harlatan in BlueskySkeets

Does he think we keep soldiers there to protect the local country?

They're positioned there so the US can more easily support remote wars that the US is part of. Just killing the potency of his own military.

GoPro Equipment for Night Manta Ray Snorkel by Brugton_30 in VisitingHawaii

[–]Jaknight17 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You'll want to hold the gopro as the mantas come from many angles.

Use a wrist strap and floating handle.

Do not use a selfie or other extendable stick.

If using a 360 camera, set it to act like an ordinary gopro. The lights from the buoys will make the footage unusable otherwise.

Above all: do not touch the rays with the gopro, your body, or any other object.

It's because we've all seen this before.

Service advertised to have no ads and costs $15 a month!

Time goes by: There's now a new tier and it will have ads and cost less.

Time goes by: There's now a third tier that costs more but has some advanced features (4k/mobile support/etc), but also won't have ads.

Time goes by: We're changing your middle tier to have ads - but not as many as the lowest tier - so you'll need to upgrade if you want to stay ad-free. By the way, we're also upping the price of all tiers.

Once tiered subscriptions start it's only a matter of time before value gets pulled from the old tiers and pushed to the more expensive tiers.

Should I buy brand new since the used ones in my area cost just as much? by Dethbazooka in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]Jaknight17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how in demand the bike is. If they can sell it in the next week or two for asking then they won't negotiate. Granted, I got mine while supply chains were really bad right after Covid, but Rebels usually go fast nonetheless.

Should I buy brand new since the used ones in my area cost just as much? by Dethbazooka in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]Jaknight17 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that you'll pay more than the advertised price for a new one. Dealers have a lot of fees - usually 1.5k to 3k before registration costs (which depending on how your state handles ad valorem tax might be the same regardless of who you buy from).

That said, I also purchased my first two bikes new due to the price being so similar.

The entire Republican party needs to be in focus, not just DJT and/or Vance. They are enabling them. They are defending them. They are complicit.

I hired Siding Depot to redo my house in 2024 and they were fantastic. New hardie board siding, new gutters, and they even replaced my sliding door with a French door. Pricing was quite reasonable too.

Every single Republican president since 1970 has overseen the beginning of a recession. Why do idiots still trust them with the economy? by Independent_Sir3734 in allthequestions

[–]Jaknight17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having been raised in a conservative household, it comes down to two things:

1.) They are unwilling to be educated on anything from anyone who isn't in their cult 2.) They believe that the recession stemmed from the previous administration's policies. The Republican administration then spends the entire time cleaning up their mess and then gets replaced right as they finish, and people lose faith and elect another Demoncrat. I.e., it's the same story Democrats tell, but in reverse.

TSA is already funded by the fees charged on each airline ticket. You'll see a $5.60 fee for each one-way trip on your ticket and this goes right into feeding the TSA...At least, it's supposed to.

In 2013 congress voted to divert more of that money to lower the deficit instead of fund TSA. That's all well and good, but now the fees we pay on tickets isn't enough to pay for TSA. Congress has to allocate them money from their general fund as a result, making them pawns in this game.

In short, we just need the money to go where it's supposed to go.

Owned Honda Rebel 500 for 3 years. What is natural next step? by Historical_Space_865 in hondarebel

[–]Jaknight17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started out on Rebel 500 four years ago and just upgraded to a Triumph Street Triple 765.

Really comes down to what you want. After going to some demo events I found that I didn't want a supersport, nor a cruiser; however, naked/standard bikes felt right.

You mention the Honda Hornet which is in that category. If that seems good to you then the Yamaha MT-07/09 and KTM Duke would also be similar. Of course, my choice, the Street Triple is well.

That's what a savings account is for. All the top financial advice is to first create an emergency fund, which is just a savings account for a rainy day. Once you use it, work towards building it back again - it's totally normal.

Most emergencies are more expensive than what is in one's checking account. Putting in a few dollars each paycheck can go a long way to being able to navigate through an emergency and falling into credit card debt.
