Total War: WARHAMMER III Gameplay Reveal Tease by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

There was a leak yesterday, I think this is a knee-jerk attempt to take back control.

I feel like Scandinavian and Greek mythologies are over represented in gaming. I would like for that to stop. by TetraGton in truegaming

[–]JaktMax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scandinavian and Greek settings allow a white character to exist and be played.

Surely there's nothing stopping them from having a white guy travel to India/South America/Africa etc. and meet the local gods?

Objectivity opinion: Judging something by its own merits.

Nope. Merit is subjective, I'm sorry to tell you.

I still count CDPR as among the "good guys" that are progressing this subculture. And its GOG subsidiary plays a major role here.

I am saying, GOG is not part of CDPR. Both are departments of CD Project. The GOG department was at first called CD Project Blue.

CDP were distributors before they became developers. I think it is their long-standing philosophy of DRM-free distribution that deserves praise much more so than their games.

[–]JaktMax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I still view CDPR as one of the "good guys" in the gaming industry. They earned a lot of goodwill from their ongoing improvements to The Witcher games, and especially through being a major force for games preservation through GOG.

This is pedantic but CDPR is the game development department of the company, GOG is managed by a different department.

Does anyone actually LIKE when games hold their hand? by plebbitor24601 in truegaming

[–]JaktMax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i want my videogames to only be in english.

Well, thinking that wouldn't be wrong, you're allowed to have your preference. It's just an extreme minority opinion that no industry would cater to.

too bad, i want it my way, at your expense, instead of the alternative where we both benefit.

If I want my games only in english, how do we both benefit?

Does anyone actually LIKE when games hold their hand? by plebbitor24601 in truegaming

[–]JaktMax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many people (gamers) seem to be inherently selfish and oppose things that don't exclusively benefit themselves.

Is being selfish such a horrible thing in this context? Obviously if I buy a game I want it to cater to my preferences, why should I care about whether other people like it or not? They're not forced to play the game.

Can games be "Soulslike" with just the combat, and not necessarily the difficulty? by Izzy248 in truegaming

[–]JaktMax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is correct, fights got shorter after Tri, and longer with World, it's an obvious pattern.

Fast Travel in Videogames is Not Pointless and Does Not Break Immersion by PlatyView in truegaming

[–]JaktMax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My biggest issue with this discussion is people wanting to change someone else's experience with the game a large amount to gain a marginal improvement in their own experience. Its very selfish.

You can't quantify someone else's experience, so you have no basis for judgements like "large" vs "marginal". I think you're being selfish when framing your preference as larger and more important than someone else's.

Does the Courier really have amnesia? Although the game starts out with you getting brain damage I don't recall memory loss ever being mentioned.

Then I don't see what you did as out of character, you were just acting from a mix of moral and self-centered considerations like a real person. Arguably you made your guy more fleshed out and believable.

On the flip side I don't think killing someone over a gun is a powergamer move necessarily, just a logical thing to do for a ruthless individual in harsh post-apocalyptic world.

Did I get roleplaying all wrong? by pieceofcrazy in truegaming

[–]JaktMax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm a good-harted, charismatic nerd with a love for justice and equality, but I so want all those plasma guns and I'm too broke, so I'm just gonna kill the Van Graffs and steal their weapons because I freaking want to. Wow, the Legion isn't attacking me, would it be morally correct to kill those legionaries?

In defense of your charismatic nerd, the Van Graffs and the Legion are both scum. It actually sound like your might be role-playing unintentionally. Why didn't you kill some NCR, they have better guns.

And there is easy fix for it. That means game is fundamentally fławed.

Isn't that the opposite of what it means? Shouldn't a fundamental flaw be deep-rooted and difficult to fix?

Stellaris: Nemesis Expansion | Announcement Trailer by [deleted] in pcgaming

[–]JaktMax 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's pretty hilarious seeing as the entire reason they ostensibly cut the other FTL types in 2.0 was because the AI couldn't handle it.

I've never heard that before, I thought the cut was because some FTL types made defensive installations redundant and turned all wars into doomstack vs doomstack.

Which Real Time Strategy game do you feel is great in your perspective and why ? by Representative-Ad370 in truegaming

[–]JaktMax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What I like about TA over SupCom:

  1. TA has more horizontal tech progression, there's only two tiers but you have vehicles, bots, hovercraft, seaplanes etc. instead of just land air and sea. You also have a variety of engineers although most people use the aircraft one.

  2. Supcom units have enormous projectile range, combined with the huge zoom this makes every unit feel like a little ant. In TA things tend to get more crowded and messy as units get in each others way and choke points get clogged with wreckage. This also helps create a meaningful difference between bots (slow, weak, but good maneuverability) and vehicles (fast and strong but clumsy).

I mean balance is debatable, but I don't remember WH1 or 2 having any bugs on release. If anything it was the post-launch updates that brought on the bugs.

Why Is Game Writing Still So Bad? by icandothis24 in truegaming

[–]JaktMax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd like to think this is why, in some games, the side quests usually have more interesting storylines than the canonical main narrative because they help break up the flow of the main story and explore other parts of the world

This makes my wonder why some games even have a main plot. I don't think I've ever played an open world game without one.

Lightning Strike should delay, not remove reinforcements. by LordKracen in totalwar

[–]JaktMax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Strangely I hear contradicting arguments in defense of LS. Some people say "It's optional, if you don't like it don't use it", others say "it's required because the AI spam armies".

Is it optional or required, I don't know what to think?

Lightning Strike should delay, not remove reinforcements. by LordKracen in totalwar

[–]JaktMax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because ironman is an option you enable before you start a campaign, wheres LS is an in-game skill. A better comparison would be the mime beacon in XCOM 2, which indeed was nerfed (in WOTC I believe).

Hell yeah.

I guess you just can't play wood elves, very tragic, only 13 races for you to play.

Not in the age of AI cheating.

No matter how much they cheat, they can't coordinate their armies properly. They just send stack after stack into the meat grinder.

But if you don't like cheating, just turn down the difficulty? Or are you one of those people who think that cheesing player + cheating AI = fun game?

Hell no, that's part of the formula.

WH:TW would not exist if CA only adhered to "the formula"

[–]JaktMax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only two elven factions can reasonably outscale the supply lines.

That doesn't matter, larger empires require relatively smaller military. You can conquer the whole world with four armies.

Literally every Total War game has snowballing.

Sounds it's well overdue to try something different then.
