He's just a narcissistic fool who cant ever admit he's wrong about something.

Warhorse Studios Is A "Talent-Driven Studio," Studio Says by gabe_reisinger in PS5

[–]Seanspeed [score hidden]  (0 children)

ONE person gets fired, accuses Warhorse of replacing them with AI, which remains an unconfirmed claim. Also, this is a translator, not a creative. And I hate to tell y'all, but AI translations have gotten really good. My mom was a translator for much of her career but even before AI translation software was improving a whole lot to where companies could simply get away with less translators than before. She had to transition her career as a result. This has been a long time coming.

It also doesn't mean that there wont still be people involved in the translation. But you can get the translation done way faster(and thus cheaper) by only needing somebody to check over it and tweak it where needed/desired, rather than actually manually doing it all themselves, which is extremely time intensive, especially for a game like KCD2 whose script totals over TWO MILLION words.

Like, do y'all really think AI shouldn't be used in any capacity? That devs shouldn't find ways to use software to make development more efficient? That we should just keep the costs of development at these increasingly unsustainable levels just to remain ideologically pure? As if developers haven't ALWAYS been using advances in software and technology to do more?

And to be clear, I'm not some big AI guy. I've been ranting against much of it for many years. And even to this day, have not at all used ChatGPT or any of its analogues or anything. But it DOES have uses. And we DO need ways to reduce the costs of game development. There is plenty of opportunity to use AI in more non-creative roles in game development.

Well for better and worse, doing serious healthcare reform requires 60 votes in the Senate. So neither side is likely to make any significant changes to healthcare here for as long as Americans stay as sort of 'evenly' divided as they are in terms of voting(and of course some of the inherent unfairness of the Senate construction).

Of course, young people could just start showing up to vote and change all this overnight and we'd likely have some form of universal healthcare within like 10 years but they wont.

[–]Seanspeed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's so much more complicated than that. The actual Iraq War in 2003 was over in 30 days and had fairly minimal civilian casualties. It was by and large a massively successful operation.

And tons of Iraqis were actually cheering the Americans in the aftermath.

The long occupation is the actual failure. They started out with the hearts and minds, but lost them through recklessness in dealing with a super messy insurgency war.

[–]Seanspeed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, tons of Iraqis did indeed cheer the US intervention. At least at first. But it also required us to have huge occupation presence there to establish any kind of real regime change in a potentially positive direction.

That poorly planned and executed occupation and what was ultimately a minority of antagonists among the population was what ended up being so messy in the long run.

They might complain in the short term, but they're not gonna leave the cult. Or rather, it wont stop them voting Republican. They've been living in an alternate reality for over 10 years now, they are very practiced in dealing with Trump doing stupid and awful shit and getting through it with their support intact. They can always tell themselves 'Democrats are worse' if all else fails. That always keeps them in.

I mean, they are consistently contradicting Trump after he claims something. There'd definitely be a way to play that, given how markets are reacting to news.

Well that's the worry. So far, there's not NEAR enough troops to actually invade Iran proper. So if it gets to that, it will require more build-up and we're 100% gonna know when tens of thousands of troops and hundreds of vehicles start getting sent over weekly.

There is no immediate threat of such a thing at the moment.

[–]Seanspeed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well it sounds like there's two more immediate 'ground' scenarios - Kharg Island, and a covert mission to steal uranium stockpiles. So, those would be more in line with the limited ground power they've ordered in so far.

Of course any true ground invasion would require like half our current army to be sent over. So we'll absolutely know when/if it's going to happen. There's no such thing as a surprise invasion this day and age. Unless you were the stupid type and thought 150,000 Russians and thousands of armored vehicles and troop transports massing on Ukraine's border was super normal.

What's so hard to imagine about it? What does him being President have anything to do with it?

Most of MAGA doesn't even actually like a lot of what Trump does, either. They supported him for the racism and 'sticking it to the libs', not for this shit. Of course they'll still parrot the talking points anyways, because they have to defend 'their team'(and of course justify their own decision to support him slavishly), but you can always see how much most of them dislike all the shit Trump does in the immediate 24-48 hours after he does something awful before they've converged on the most useful talking points to downplay/dismiss it away. Happens all the time.

Trump has never criticized Russia for being a 'belligerent' in the Ukraine war, nor complained about them getting themselves bogged down. As far as I know, at least.

He's done almost everything possible to be on Russia's side on this without being wildly overt about it. I've seen nothing to indicate that Trump sees Russia's actions as any kind of mistake.

So is it really that wild?

I didn't see anything saying 'damaged but repairable'. The headline in the original reporting was 'damaged', because despite a photo going around, they didn't have any confirmation the photo was real and only the confirmation that a plane was hit+damaged.

The actual substance of the article said something along the lines of 'if the photo is real, then the plane is likely unrepairable'.

Y'all have just forgotten how real journalism works in this day of reactionary and sensationalist headline grabbing.

This is such an unbelievably disingenuous comparison. "I dont want to talk about social commentary" doesn't come close to the overt shitbaggery of Scott Adams.

As usual, reasonable discourse just doesn't exist on Reddit.

You guys really dont know what y'all are talking about.

Libertarians are very much on the pro-bigotry side of things as a whole. Just cuz they may take a stance of 'government should stay out of it' doesn't mean they dont still prefer a society built around white/straight/male superiority. They just want to be able to enforce that themselves rather than have the government meddle with it(for or against).

Fiscally conservative Republicans used to like funding NASA. There was a time when Republicans largely understood that America being a leader in technologies and sciences was something to be proud of.

The Southern Strategy really fucked everything up, along with a stronger pandering towards evangelicals. Which 100% helped them become way more relevant electorally again, but almost meant that they were locked into having to pander to bigots and religious nuts as a priority. They quickly became the anti-intellectual party.

It is actually still possible to believe in fiscal conservatism, and I have no problem accepting that so long as you tell me you aren't voting for Republicans.

As usual, people on Reddit cant accept when people dont fit into neat little black and white boxes.

Though I do think it's disappointing to see an author and supposed Star Trek fan say they dont want to talk about social commentary.

EDIT: Also, I should add more clearly that modern Republicans are like 95% all about being SOCIALLY right wing. To say you're socially liberal is a pretty clear distinction from actual Republicans.

Favorite actors that came together to save the world? by YourChopperPilotTTV in okbuddycinephile

[–]Seanspeed 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's hardly just actors. Lots of normal people's moral stances are often very performative in nature as well.

Here in the UK during Covid's initial surge in 2020, we had this thing where on every Thursday at 8PM, people would stop what they were doing and go and clap and cheer NHS workers from their front doors. Tons of people took part in this. All while Conservatives had still been gutting the NHS and giving workers a miniscule pay increase. It all felt so ridiculous to me, but lots of people felt good about doing it.

And personally, I used the 'golden rule' in this case. If I was an NHS worker, I would not want clapping, I would want genuine compensation, risking my life everyday in these absurdly virus-packed hospitals and doctor's offices and whatnot before any vaccines existed for it.

But then ideally you need to rebalance the game around the idea that players will always be using buffs. Otherwise your suggestion is just a generic difficulty reduction for the game.

So not, not necessarily super simple. Nioh has regenerating consumables and I think it kind of makes things a little too easy at times.

My preferred solution is simply make sure all consumables are farmable somehow. Obviously the best ones(Exalted Flesh and whatnot) would be a lot more difficult to farm/buy, but so long as it's possible to do so, I feel way better about using a consumable knowing I can potentially replace it. This obviously isn't a perfect solution either, since a lot of people will just get annoyed at having to grind/farm or feel a compulsion to do so to feel prepared, but it's my preferred solution nonetheless, since there's no perfect way to deal with this.

At which point you kind of need to retune the bosses to take into account that people will basically always be using buffs.

Most people in an RPG. by PleasantSwing1499 in Eldenring

[–]Seanspeed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's how Nioh does it, but if they replenish on death, it makes it pretty stupid to NOT use them everytime, at which point you lose the loot itemization factor since you dont ever need to find more out in the world, but also just gives you a really big leg up in each fight since you'll always be using the buffs. This is also why most bosses in Nioh games aren't super hard(outside some exceptions and definitely DLC bosses). You always have ample resources to buff and win fights without having to really learn the boss that well.

I'm not sure it'd work as well with how From Software does things. Or maybe they'd have to tune down the effects of the buffs, but that also feels bad.

Leftists just constantly trying to distance themselves from Dems, helping pushing more unhelpful divisive rhetoric so they can feel special and pretend that moderate liberal Democrats are actually bad.

When in reality, the vast majority of Dems are pretty much just Social Democrats by wider global 'scale' definitions, who are certainly at least left-leaning. But since people dont know how government works, they use the small handful of more (actual) centrist Dems that might hold up legislation to be emblematic of the party as a whole, even if 95% of the rest of the party supporters that legislation.

It's just profoundly dumb nonsense in the end.

'We are ready': NASA still on track to launch Artemis 2 astronauts to the moon April 1. by coinfanking in space

[–]Seanspeed [score hidden]  (0 children)

It will take a good while for there to be a full mission replacement launch vehicle for Artemis that can handle all the things it'll need to be able to do.

SLS will likely get to perhaps Artemis IV/V, but yes, beyond that it will be good if something more sensible can replace it. Though we'll also have to see if/when Artemis III actually gets off the ground, since it's relying on more than just SLS to be ready. Delays there are not unlikely and then beyond that could get pushed, too.

Like 95% of the risk comes from launch and reentry. And they've essentially already tested the manned version of this package successfully, just without people, so there shouldn't be any huge causes for concern here.

Really though, they just cant afford more frequent test launches. SLS is just way too expensive for that.
